About this deal

Make sure all distances have the same measurement and the corners are 90 degrees. Keep smoothing and stretching out gently, pinning the edges until everything looks and measures out correctly. The shawl is washed and then placed wet on the surface. Starting from the centre, the knitting is smoothed out and pinned in place. It is then left to dry for 24 hours longer than when it feels dry. Pin out the scalloped edges if your design has these. It’ll be obvious from your shawl design which points need to be pulled out and pinned. Leave the item to dry in situ. Try not to move it too much, and definitely do not hang it to dry as this will result in a misshapen piece of knitting. Water – you can soak your project in a clean bowl, basin, sink or bath, and you may also find a simple spray bottle useful

Step 3: Spray the blanket with enough water to dampen it, then leave it to dry. Finally, remove the pins. Terms Step 2: Use the hottest setting for the steam function on your iron, go over the knitted piece WITHOUT pressing down. That’s really important! Step 3: Soak the knitted piece in water for thirty minutes. You should ensure that the fabric is fully submerged in the water. Consider squeezing the material a few times to ensure that the wool wash gets deep into the fiber. Once you have allowed the fabric to fully soak, carefully squeeze out the excess water and lay it flat on a towel. Gently roll up the fabric in the towel and give it a soft press to take most of the water out. A table, open space of floor or bed works well. If you are going to use your bed remember you will need to sleep and knitting can take a while to dry, especially in the colder northern climes. The rust-proof part is important, as the pins will be exposed to moisture during the drying process and rust stains would be permanently visible on your finished item. First you will add 1 wire on each side of your project. Then either pin the wires out flat to shape or hang the piece from one of the wires, depending on the shape you’re working with.

Soak your folded section pieces or finished item in a bowl of lukewarm water and a generous dollop of KnitIQ wool wash. It’s a fine line between using heat to ‘break’ and manipulate acrylic fibres and irreversibly flattening it. Never apply direct heat to any yarn. It can melt the acrylic fibres or flatten the stitches, irreversibly damaging it. Never place a hot iron onto your fabric, you may end up with quite the mess.

How to block lace knitting

Place on a dry towel and gently roll up. Don’t wring it out. Rather stomp on the towel with clean feet to remove excess water. You many need more than 1 dry towel. The precise approach to pinning will depend on the shape and style of the garment you’re working with, but I wanted to include this image to give you an idea. Let your knitwear soak for 10 - 30 minutes. Lift it out very carefully, using both hands. Squeeze the excess water out gently - do not wring it aggressively. Then lay the item flat onto a dry towel and roll it up. Press down firmly on the rolled-up towel. Your objective is to get out as much excess moisture as possible.
