Angel Delight is a well-known, much-loved brand and it has grown 10% in the past year, bringing in 1.1 million new consumers to the brand. Then we moved to Portugal and the local cost would be 3 times what you paid for it in England and it was just not worth it. I remember thinking we could make 3 chocolate cakes and still be better off. This range gives retailers something new to broaden the choice of their food to go chilled desserts offering, while crucially remaining HFSS compliant and helping to grow the on-the-go desserts category.

The desserts offer an “appealing solution for customers who are mindful of their calorie intake but still want a sweet and tasty treat”.Ben Knop, food-to-go innovation manager for brand owner Premier Foods, said: “These new Angel Delight pots are an ideal solution for growing the choice of desserts for consumers shopping food-to-go. The launch comes as wellbeing concerns continue to grow and more consumers becoming health conscious when selecting products – but want a level of enjoyment from the products they consume. This range gives consumers something new to broaden the choice of their food to go chilled desserts offering, while crucially remaining HFSS compliant and helping to grow the on-the-go dessert category. Melt the butter in a small, heavy-based saucepan, over a medium-high heat, and then whisk in the sugar. It will look grainy and clumpy at these early stages — rather like lemon sorbet — but keep whisking and it will become first a toffee-like goo, and then a smooth and placid butterscotch-coloured lake. Once it begins to bubble, swirl the pan frequently, until it becomes a rich, deep, glossy teak and begins to smoke. Don’t let it burn, obviously, but don’t be so timorous that you fail to get that smoky caramel taste. Every now and again my mum would feel sorry for us and bring us some from England but that was often a once a year treat.

Apart from just making up Angel Delight, you can mix it up a bit and create other treats and desserts with it, here are some ideas: Evaporated milk is regular, full fat, blue top, milk, that has been evaporated to remove the water, leaving just the “milk” part. This means you can simply turn the evaporated milk into regular milk by adding water in! If you buy a tin of evaporated milk and keep it in the cupboard until you want it, then simply emptying out the small 150ml tin and then using that tin to measure out 150ml of water will give you the same result! Of course, you don’t have to do this – I just use a small tin of evaporated milk, mix it with the Angel Delight and then decide, by eye, if I do want to “add a bit of water” to make it thinner. Calories in Castello Heavenly Delight:Put the cornflour into a bowl, then slowly whisk in the milk and keep whisking until you have banished every lump. Now beat in the egg yolk and salt, and set aside somewhere within easy reach of the hob. You would have a layer of jelly, a layer of Angel delight, a layer of whipped cream and then loads of 100’s and 100’s along with some grated Cadbury’s flake right on top.
