About this deal

In terms of the Ryzen 7 6800U, CPU performance hasn't increased substantially comparing this generation to the previous: Zen 3+

On GPU workloads or games Tiger Lake was around 20% faster than the 5800U, so the iGPU update on the 6800U should definitely help to bring overall leadership in the 15-28 Watt class of laptops without a dGPU. Asus makes use of magnesium-aluminum alloy for the case and the Zenbook comes across as very high-quality. It is also extremely compact and mobile with a weight of just over one kilogram. Our review unit comes in the Ponder Blue color variant and looks very elegant, and the slightly roughened surfaces also feel good. However, the surfaces are also quite fingerprint sensitive. Asus offers other optional color variants, the keyboards of which also change color. In addition to white, the Zenbook S13 is also available in light green and beige. Audio is still handled by a set of stereo speakers that fire through grills on the underside, much like on the previous ZenBook lineups. The angled shape of the D-Panel allows the sound to bounce off the table without distortions and prevents you from easily muffling them while using the computer on the lap. Compared to average LCD displays in the market, measuring energy emission of blue light in between 415-455 nm wavelength. JarredWaltonGPU said:Andrew was a bit under the gun to get the review up, but we've added some graphics tests after the fact. Unfortunately, we don't have comparable performance data from other laptops we've reviewed, as that hasn't been something deemed "important" on non-gaming laptops. We're planning to test the graphics performance of some of the other budget "non-gaming" laptops going forward, to build out our suite of results. Right now, it looks like the Radeon 680M is about 80% faster than Intel's Iris Xe 96 EU graphics solution, which is used in both Alder Lake and the older Tiger Lake. It's also a big step down from the sort of performance you'd get from even a GTX 1650 laptop solution. It is not as fast as a GTX 1650, that is to be expected. After all, this is supposed to be an APU that sustains a 15 to 28W TDP. It is really to see how much of a difference people can expect in 3D applications by moving from the aged Vega to RDNA2. The mobile GTX 1650 will require something like a H series processor to catch up due to higher power limit and also better cooling solution deployed.First….FANTASTIC review, there is really nothing that I would change about the content and style of this review…You are now my go to reviewer. EXCELLENT job…keep up the great work!!! The Asus Zenbook S 13's OLED screen proved decently vivid at 126% of the sRGB color gamut and 89.3% of the DCI-P3 gamut. That's more vibrant than the LED screen on the 13-inch MacBook Pro, but the OLED panels on Lenovo's Yoga 9i Gen 7 and IdeaPad Slim 7 Carbon won out on both color spectrums. Its superiority is pretty straightforward, resulting in the best graphics horsepower you’ll get in thin systems like these that are not using any type of discrete GPU. On the flip side, you can see how far the gap is to a real GPU—the G14’s Radeon RX 6800S is leaps and bounds ahead. For gaming and any professional 3D work, you’d want a real dedicated GPU like that.

In comparison, the Ryzen 7 5700U (8C/16T), Ryzen 5 5500U (6C/12T), and Ryzen 3 5300U (4C/8T) are part of the Lucienne platform and get Zen2+ based processors, with only a handful of smaller optimizations over the Renoir Zen2 processors from 2020. The Lucienne architecture is better explained in this detailed article from Anandtech. The Ryzen 7 6800U is an AMD Rembrandt 6000 processor, with 8 Cores and 16 Threads. This is a revision of the Ryzen 5000 platform previously implemented in the 2021 ZenBook 13 reviewed here (5800U model) and here (5600U model). The Asus Zenbook S 13 is a very successful compact notebook that combines many modern technological features with the brand-new Ryzen 7 6800U from AMD. We did not encounter any real weak points in the review process and our positive impressions clearly outweigh the negative ones.and medium quality was still asking just a bit too much of the integrated Radeon 680M, but adjusting the resolution to 1600x900 should get most games into the 30 fps or higher range. These are also relatively demanding games, so lighter fare shouldn't be a problem. The rest should be much closer in performance to the 6800U. The HP Pavilion Aero is the one to look at to gauge the generational jump, as it’s running AMD’s 5000 Series equivalent (the 5800U) in a 13-inch laptop. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7 Carbon uses the same CPU, but in a slightly larger 14-inch chassis—the bigger form factor may provide higher performance potential thanks to better cooling.

In the synthetic benchmarks, the new Radeon 680M is about twice as fast as the old RX Vega 8 of the predecessor. Even the fastest versions of the Xe Graphics G7 witt 96 EUsare clearly surpassed, as is the dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX450. The newer MX550is still a little faster, but the difference is not so significant. However, Apple's 7 core M1-GPU in the MacBook Air is faster, which also applies to the OpenGL and OpenCL benchmarks. On the other, there are the Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T and Ryzen 5 7530U 6C/12T processors, part of the Barcelo-R platform, built on Zen3 Cores and Vega graphics. These are rebadged versions of the 2022 Ryzen 7 5825U/ Ryzen 5 5635U processors. This laptop is available with a 13.3-inch 16:10 glossy OLED 2.8K panel, in either a touch or a non-touch variant. Asus has gone with a 16:10 aspect ratio here, which is nice because it provides more vertical real estate than a standard 16:9 screen. I think Asus could do one better and go 3:2 for even more vertical space here, like Microsoft's Surface lineup, though that's a personal preference of mine. Battery Life on the Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED But given this is a relatively modern title, it does suggest that quite a number of games will work on the 6800U with low settings at a native 1080p, or near native using upscaling tech like FSR. Battery Life

A long-lasting, lovely productivity machine that gets a bit toasty.

The memory is soldered on the motherboard and Asus offers 16 or 8 GB configurations, all with LPDDR5-6400 memory. Our unit is the 16 GB version. Generally speaking, U series chips on both the AMD and Intel side are found in thin, portability-first systems. The lower wattage ceilings are a good match for the lower thermal limits of these smaller laptops. You don’t need a load of variation at the U series level of laptops, and if you're configuring a new custom-build laptop or evaluating specs of ready-to-ship ones, you can drop down to an older Ryzen or up to an H chip as needed. The ideal use case for the latest U series processor is about getting the most performance you can out of a thin, ultraportable notebook. At the same time, the S 13 outmatches the Iris-based Intel i7-1260P configuration of the ZenBook 14 in all titles, but the difference isn’t significant once the power drops and stabilizes at 15-18W. That’s because the Intel model runs at 30W sustained on Performance mode, albeit with a louder fan.
