It definitely isn't easy to adjust to at first though,” he considers. “So many of our peers that we grew up with, the minute that they weren't fashionable, they seemed to stop, and we could never believe it. We were like, ‘Is that really what was driving it? Being fashionable?’ To us, that was just absurd. Of Wide-Eyed Nowhere the band say: "We surprised ourselves with what came out; a sweeter, groovier set of songs in no hurry to be anything but themselves."'" The South London 4-Piece comprising Olly Knights, Gale Paridjanian, Rob Allum and Eddie Myer recorded this new set of songs at Twin Palms - Olly's garden studio - over the summer of 2021, choosing to let time infuse into the music and mature in a way it couldn't in a pressurised commercial studio setting.

We were just that little bit older,” he says, “but I do remember The O.C. really well – it was a big show! Weirdly, it's played a lot now; I've seen it on TV again recently, so I'm always keeping half an ear out for our song. It was so lovely – we still talk about it.

Turin Brakes have always been an unstarry proposition, even as the harmonies of founder members Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian reach for the heavens. Emerging from the New Acoustic Movement of the early 2000s, and peaking commercially with their 2003 UK top 5 hit Painkiller (Summer Rain), they’re a modest band, committed to the music and the songcraft. It’s no coincidence one of their lyrics goes, “Have another drink my son/Enjoy another cigarette/’Cos it’s time you realised/You’re just an average man.” Turin Brakes @ Brixton Academy". XFM. In 2014, the band played the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas and toured the United Kingdom, Italy, Ireland and the Netherlands. In 2015, the band started work on their seventh studio album. Turin Brakes are currently on their UK tour until the end of October, and performed for the first time at Towersey Festival this summer, the UK’s longest-running independent festival. After the successful release, the record company sought to replicate the commercial success by releasing a third single from the album, Average Man. However, UK radio channels didn't embrace the single as they had with previous releases and the chart performance (no. 35 [11]) was seen as disappointment by fans and the record label.
