About this deal

In addition to its main "Generation 1" based series, IDW put out mini-series based on other then-current Transformers media, including the live-action film series, Transformers Animated, the "Aligned" continuity (primarily Prime and Robots in Disguise)... and even a "sequel" series to the original Marvel comics continuity, separate from Generation 2 because... reasons. And on top of that, numerous out-of-continuity mini-series crossovers with non-Hasbro properties.

Marvel UK also featured a crossover between these two properties. 'Ancient Relics' began in Issue 125 of the UK comic and continued within issues #24-#27 of Action Force, (the name given to the G.I. Joe comic series in the UK). [25] The Transformers: Headmasters, Marvel, U.S., 1987–1988 [ edit ] Autobot Fortress Maximus removes his own head while on the planet Nebulos. From issue #1 of The Transformers: Headmasters mini-series published by Marvel Comics. This is probably the closest look we'll get at Thunderwing's unpublished character model. José Delbo was a copier. Meanwhile, their British branch, Marvel UK, also published Transformers comics, a mix of reprinted strips from the US series (occasionally slightly edited or recontextualized) and original strips primarily written by the aforementioned Simon Furman: The Transformers toyline, spotlighting the Autobot Cars, Autobot Mini Vehicles, Decepticon Planes, and Mini-Cassettes.

Thunderwing's Marvel Comics appearances give him a four-barreled hand weapon that's completely fabricated, as it's not based on any of the toy's three guns. As with the melee weapons Bludgeon, Stranglehold, and Octopunch use in the comic, his four-barreled cannon likely originated from his unpublished character model. In a better world, Thunderwing would be the ideal Decepticon leader. He's fearless, ruthless, and immensely powerful, while uncommonly concerned about the welfare of his fellow Decepticons. For this mindset, Thunderwing gets a high approval rating from his peers, but, sadly, this is not the whole story. On May 22, the first Usenet post about Transformers is posted by Ted Nolan to net.comics, regarding this issue. Capsule review? "Worst comic of the year." Strike! Strike! With all the might at our command! Death to the Autobots and the decay they stand for!"

Occasionally, an issue was seen arriving on the Friday before it was "due", with such sightings usually during the Christmas/New Year period when distribution can be unsettled and overcompensated for, but it is hard to verify individual sightings. The exact reason for this change is that doing new strips would've meant spending money, and Marvel UK's then-head Paul Neary didn't want to spend it on what he considered a 'dead end' of relying on licensed material. It's also possible he saw cancelling the comic as a way to shake things up. (He would later tell Comics World #33, regarding Death's Head's original self), "I didn't think there was much future in Transformers-based robots". Interestingly, Furman hadn't been asked to write the planned new tales and we don't know if that was due to timing or someone else would've been tapped. [6] Cover dates Various parodies and homages to its distinctly surreal cover art including an incentive cover of " The Death of Optimus Prime", Cover B of the final issue of Regeneration One, a convention exclusive cover for Till All Are One #1, the "cover" for " The Inexorable March", and a retailer incentive cover to Unicron #1. Having launched Unicron by stating it would be the conclusion of their ongoing Transformers universe, in December 2018 IDW announced a new continuity to replace it. [1]In 1991, with news of the American Transformers comic coming to an end, Marvel UK had to make a decision about TFUK’s future before the supply of US material was exhausted. They had three choices: cancel the comic; or continue the comic, make it a monthly, and either go reprint-only (as was the norm) or commission all-new stories. In latter years reprints were done courtesy of Titan Books who published reprints in 14 volumes. [5] The " ...Perchance to Dream" story in UK #255-260 began the Earthforce storyline and heralded a nigh-irreconcilable division between U.S. and UK stories. This was in part a deliberate decision to not try to maintain continuity due to past problems. [7] Publication and format Spin-offs during this period included The Transformers: Bumblebee #1–4 (2009–2010), The Transformers: Ironhide #1–4 (2010), The Transformers: Drift #1–4 (2010), The Transformers: Infestation #1–2 (2011) and The Transformers: Heart of Darkness #1–4 (2011); the last two of which, by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, set up the final arc of the Costa ongoing, leading into another "soft reboot" of sorts.

It implied that Megatron still remained dead after the conclusion of the Marvel UK series. In early 2002, Dreamwave Productions acquired the Transformers comics license and went on to produce a highly successful return of Transformers to the comic world. They started with a limited series focusing on the Generation 1 characters and a monthly series dedicated to Transformers: Armada. The G1 stories were not bound by the previous Marvel stories nor the animated series. Dreamwave produced a large amount of material, but would go bankrupt and lose the Transformers license in early 2005.
