About this deal

There are two problems with THE WOLF OF WINTER. The first problem has to do with the marketing/summary of the book. This is how the summary reads: Bill remarks how the Vikings do not have horns. This is an in-joke reference to criticism levelled at The Girl Who Died, which featured stereotypical (and historically inaccurate) horn-wearing Vikings. The Vikings seen in this story are depicted closer to how they appear in the popular TV series Vikings. I think fans of "The Hunger Games" would like this book, because Gwendolynn reminded me a bit of Katniss Everdeen. What had happened to the world had made animals or monsters of us all. Survivors or murderers. Sometimes the line between the two was blurry... In the TARDIS, the Doctor tells Bill of how he met and fought Ingiger in his seventh incarnation and how he stopped him by using his own allies against him. He realises then that Ingiger is what caused the TARDIS to land in the island.

Varis succumbs to the corrosion, yet his necromantic practice and his dark ambition to usurp rulership are not connected except by the catch-all of insanity. In fact, as a character he is at the center of paradox: a man twisted by dark magic yet ruling justly and progressively (by his own statement, so perhaps not a reliable statement), and who has improved the lives of the populace, yet does not have its loyalty or love. Another brilliant book by Dan Jones.” —Charles Spencer, author of The White Ship and Killers of the King

Jax has been taken advantage of long enough, and now he is on the run. With no sense of purpose except to get away as far as he can from the savage people who want to use him as a weapon. Jax is about to cross paths with Lynn and unknowingly help her uncover a secret she's been kept in the dark about for far too long. But here's the thing, Lynn isn't the only one with a dark secret. This story is not completely innovative- a strong, female protagonist with special skills/powers that could save the world alongside a rough, isolated young man who turns out to be different than expected, and a world torn apart by outside forces. There are some similarities to both “Divergent” (Veronica Roth), and “The Hunger Games”, as well as any of the other immeasurable YA-pocalypse stories out there. However, I can say, I am a huge fan of this genre and really enjoyed “Wolves of Winter”. Society as we know it has collapsed. The big powes have nuked each other to near oblivion. Many have tried to escape, but then came something with no escape, no cure, trying to finish off those who were left. Lynn, and her remaining family members escape to the Yukon, form a small settlement, hunting and fishing to survive.

The epic sequel to Essex Dogs , continuing the New York Times bestselling historian's trilogy of novels following the fortunes of ten ordinary soldiers during the Hundred Years' War. This story acts as a prequel to both The Curse of Fenric and The Waters of Mars though both occur in the Doctor's personal past. The two things that I have as critiques are things that are more personal preference than anything, which is what resulted in a 4 star rating. My problem is with the great library at Fruce. One of the main characters, the woman on the cover, is a political refugee, and as a child she's hidden away in a library on a remote island, called Fruce. Fruce is a solid granite island within a very large lake, completely bare, and it houses a large population of visiting scholars and librarians. TRBS: Lastly, who are some of your favorite authors, and what books are currently on your TBR list?
