Home : Products : New Machines : Nokta/Makro Metal Detectors : Nokta Makro Simplex+ Nokta Makro Simplex+ After multi frequency technology being pioneered by Minelab, many manufacturers have now followed suit. We’re not going to spend a huge amount of time comparing the three Vanquish detectors and the new range of Simplex now (more on that in another blog) but instead want to see how the new X-TERRA PRO will change the marketplace for those looking to buy their first machine, or those looking for a specific detecting experience. To give you a very rough idea about the new metal detector – Nokta Simplex is a cheap (comparatively, of course, but still), both for ground and water search, and very easy to operate. Plus, it is compatible with wireless headphones, and has a DD coil in the kit.

I have a useful article on the pros and cons of using non specific wired and wireless metal detecting headphones here. Nokta Makro Simplex + Nokta Simplex I have a useful article on metal detector settings and what they do here. The Nokta Makro Simplex also benefits from in-built rechargeable batteries that are charged via a USB cable. However, the detectors do look quite different. The Simplex is a little more dated in terms of styling and design than the X-TERRA PRO, which is to be expected with approximately 4 years between their release. The X-TERRA PRO almost looks like a hybrid of other Minelab detectors, borrowing elements of the shaft and coil design from the Vanquish range and the control box style from the Equinox detectors. It looks really modern, but one thing that may be either a clincher or a deal breaker for some is the colour. The X-TERRA PRO almost a military, camouflaged green colour which we like, but some might not. It still however is a single frequency machine. Currently, multi frequency technology is the talk of the town. The settings that you can see on the screen include volume, ground balance, ferrous metals volume, discrimination segments, frequency shift, wireless headphones mode, vibration mode, lights, and flashlight. All settings are tuned by pressing the buttons to the right or to the left, or using up and down buttons. The first waterproof metal detector on the market offering extreme depth and high-end features at an entry-level price! We have dedicated Simplex + users in my club that have found some fantastic items at great depths. I have also been blown away by how deep and fast it is between iron. More advanced features include 0-99 target ID that helps identify the potential target according to the segments, notch discrimination, plus adjustable ferrous metals volume that allows to ignore ferrous metals altogether if necessary. You cannot afford a high-end detector but you simply want extreme depth and the basic features of a high-end device?

It also benefits from an “Iron Volume” function which is a really useful thing. This allows you to hear the iron in the ground when hunting in All Metal but to turn volume of the iron very low. The Simplex Ultra from Nokta is top of the new generation of Simplex metal detectors with professional features at an entry level price. You cannot afford a high-end detector but you simply want extreme depth and basic features of a high-end device? In 2019 both Noktaand Minelabreleased new detectors for this market of detectorist and became heavy competition for the pre-existing Garrett Ace series. Garrett’s Ace detectorshad dominated in this area for quite some time, but the new technology and features within the Simplex and Vanquish machines generally replaced Garrett machines as choice in this price range for many people. If you said yes to one of the above, SIMPLEX+ is the sole choice that covers it all. We are proud to offer our first entry-level detector, the SIMPLEX+, which makes quality metal detecting available and affordable for all users.

It does unfortunately place it firmly at the mid range Minelab Vanquish 440 that uses multi frequency technology. This technology opens up a whole new world of finding previously undetectable targets. The Nokta Makro Simplex plus is a mid to high range specification single frequency coin and treasure seeking metal detector that was launched after the Minelab Equinox 600 and 800.

SIMPLEX continues to be unrivalled in terms of making quality metal detecting available and affordable for all by offering 3 different models at different price levels. Whether you're a beginner or you want an affordable yet powerful detector, SIMPLEX has you covered! The other side of this part has flashlight, and is equipped with two outlets. The metal detector can be charged using any of these two outlets, but in fact one of them is for connection with the coil, while the other has a leak-proof cover and fits for wired headphones. The X-TERRA PRO comes with a search head which is 1” bigger than the Simplex. The Simplex comes as standard with the SP28 11” search coil and the X-TERRA PRO comes with the V12X 12" Double-D Elliptical coil. *side note – both come with a skid plate to keep your coil safe. Recovery speed is very fast giving remarkable target unmasking capabilities. If any of the terms I’ve used so far are alien, you can further read my article Best Metal Detector for Beginners. Operating at a good mid range 12 KHz, not much should escape it within reason. Operating at 12 Khz places the Simplex + in a good “all round” frequency for depth and sensitivity. To complement the 11 inch DD coil included into the kit, you can also buy a bunch of other coils compatible. This is a novelty for cheaper detectors, as well. This smaller yet still one-size-fits-all round search loop is very universal and easy to manage. It will cover complicated places, especially if you hunt for small targets like coins or jewelry. I believe it is also good for underwater search, due to its size and shape. You will be able to comb the location really thoroughly with proper depth and stable performance of the machine. SP24 – Waterproof 9.5″x5″ DD Search Coil The Simplex is once again commendable in its degree of target Id’s, offering 0-99 options for target identification. However, once again the X-TERRA PRO has more to offer here. The new generation of Minelab Equinox models(Equinox 700 and Equinox 900) were released in 2023 and provided a new extended target Id range from -19-99 and this technology seems to have been integrated into the X-TERRA PRO. This is amazing as it provides a level of detail on the target for the user that you wouldn’t see anywhere in this price range. The X-TERRA PRO has 30 discrimination segments, each one of which can be used to omit 4 of the target Id numbers, whereas the Simplex has fewer. Although it’s difficult to assess across different machines, larger coils typically provide a greater ability to see targets which lie deeper in the ground. For example, the Vanquish metal detector comes with 3 different coil options, V8 (8”), V10 (10”) and the V12 (12”) if you fitted the V12, you could find targets at a greater depth, whereas the V8 would see at ashallower depth, but most likely in greater detail, as the same amount of energy flows through the coil regardless of which size you have fitted. Some detectorists love large coils to help them find the deepest of targets and some prefer smaller, for better target separation and to be more precise at the shallower depths. The Vanquish series do win over here however with their pioneering multi frequency technology over the single frequency Simplex +. Nokta Makro Simplex + Final Thoughts Nokta Simplex

Shaft retracts down to 63 cm (25"). Great for easy transport, storage as well as diving! Lightweight (1.3kg / 2.9Ibs) In terms of functions, Simplex+ is definitely better than Garrett Ace series metal detectors, Fisher F11-F44 detectors, and other newbie-friendly metal detectors already available. In fact, due to its functions, it can be compared with Garrett AT Pro (that I have been using for several years), and yet, it is almost two times cheaper. No doubt, Simplex+ is a serious competitor for Quest – X5 and X10 metal detectors, and also for the Minelab Vanquish series expected in 2020. Ground balance. You either press the pinpoint button to set it automatically, or do it manually using the arrow buttons The Nokta Simplex + is also fully waterproof up to 3m deep and is therefore fully protected from water, mud or dust ingress into it’s most sensitive and important inner workings. It can confidently be used as a “switch on & go” machine with minimal fuss ground balancing functionality. The benefits of ground balancing is essential for the serious enthusiast. The pre-set search modes are easily chosen from a single menu interface, to search beach, field, park 1 and Park 2 or All Metal. As mentioned, Nokta are always pushing for improvements in their products. The Nokta Makro Simplex + is no different. There have been several software improvements since its launch. Being launched after the Minelab Equinox range, it is obvious that Nokta did some homework and emulated aspects of the Equinox, at least the user interface on their LCD screen. Together with the original coil included into the kit, plus updatable software for the metal detector, these two additional products will make your metal detecting sessions even more productive. The more coils are available, the more flexibility you can expect for various targets and locations, and for various search conditions overall. SP22 – Waterproof 8.5″ DD Search Coil The control box is simple yet convenient and user-friendly. There are six buttons to turn the device on and off, and tune the settings. The discrimination scale is provided in the upper part, below you can see the Search Modes icons. Next there are VDI target identification numbers, the sensitivity scale is on the right, the depth scale is on the left. Below, there is a battery life indicator. Settings Review
