About this deal

This product was easy to assemble and the instructions weren’t totally horrendous, which is usually the case these days, and the adjustable handles and collection bag all fitted on without any bother.

Pitchfork-style coring aerators are a simple, effective way of aerating small to medium sized lawns. The size of these shoe attachments is fully adjustable thanks to the Velcro straps. They can be adjusted to fit both male and female shoe sizes, although your shoes underneath should be secured very tightly to prevent them from coming off.The 1400 watt electric motor delivers plenty of power for scarifying, but maybe a little too much for Aerating if you already have a beautiful lawn , as it will tear up some of the surface while doing its job. For a lawn that is in need of help though, a little bit of surface damage that eventually leads to a more beautiful lawn later is probably worth it. There are a number of different types of aerators you can use to aerate your lawn. Here are some of the most common ones, and what they’re good for. Hollow tine aerators Spiked shoes might penetrate about 4cm deep, while a proper pitchfork hollow tine plug lawn aerator will go as deep as 10cm.

Now we’ll explain some key things to consider when buying a lawn aerator, helping you find the right type of aerator for your lawn. Benefits of aerating your lawn It’s worth noting that this aerator isn’t ‘hollow-tined’. The 8 cm spikes don’t remove any earth, so the ground isn’t any less compact. However, it’s still very effective. The spikes are 6 mm wide and create holes that allow air, water and nutrients to get deeper into the soil. This type of aerator has an additional benefit over hollow tine models – there’s no need to remove plugs of soil from the tines after use. Instead, simply insert the spikes into the soil and remove. They are simple, cheap and work really well if you get a decent pair and the only thing that lets them down is that they require you to walk around the garden for quite a long time and it can be quite tiring – from my perspective as I mention above it’s a great opportunity for exercise and clearing a chore. I like the look of the ABREOME Lawn Aerator Shoes. Fork aerators will hollow tines The AL-KO Comfort 38E Combi-Care 2 in 1 Scarifier/Aerator allows you to scarify your lawn in a separate process before you aerate it. Removing the lawn thatch that stands as a barrier between the grass and the soil lets the spikes on the aerator roller go fully down into the ground. This combo model has a 38cm working width with 24 steel spikes on the aerator By aerating your garden with the right type of aerator, you’re reintroducing more oxygen and moisture to your soil’s roots, by reducing compaction, helping the roots grow deeper and stronger, and making your lawn healthier. Different types of aerators

Rolling Lawn Aerator

If your lawn grows on pretty soil high in clay or you live in a rather dry climate, more likely than not, the aeration process for you is a real challenge. If so, we recommend you to consider the Kingfisher RC401 aerator specifically designed for the use in harsh conditions. The technique you use to aerate your grass will depend on the size of your lawn, and the aerator you’re using.

You wear these aeration shoes while also wearing regular shoes – there are four adjustable velcro straps you use to secure them in place. It’s important that you do up the straps correctly, otherwise the shoes might slip as you use them. There are no instructions, so it might take a bit of experimentation with the straps to find a setup that helps to keep them secured. Aeration shoes aren’t as effective as an aerator with hollow tines. They don’t penetrate very deep. However, they’re very easy to use – all you need to do is stomp around your garden for 5 minutes, assuming it’s a small lawn, and you’re done. Like above, these are best suited for small gardens as they do require quite a bit of manual work. Similar to the pitch fork, they have spikes placed underneath that pierce the ground while you walk across it. All you do is strap them to your shoes, please wear boots, and walk over the area that needs to be aerated. I would recommend lawn aerator shoes with non-slip platform and heal support for a more secure fit.Using spiked lawn aerators, that pierce the ground, will allow air to reach grass roots as well as water. Grass roots will become stronger which will lead to a healthier lawn that’s better able to withstand heat and drought. For an electric machine, it’s reasonably noisy at 102 dB, so you may need to use ear protectors. For reference, 100 dB is a similar level of noise to a hand drill.

As you may already know aerating your lawn is a very important job that creates holes in your soil to help lawn grasses to grow and flourish. It should be carried out on a regular basis if you want to keep your lawn healthy throughout the year, especially for us here in the UK. It’s also an easy machine to assemble. It takes around 15 minutes to put together and all you need is a Phillips screwdriver. For example, clay soils become compacted quite easily, as they have small particles that clump together easily. This means that you need to aerate your grass more often. But it also means that aeration will be more difficult – the more compact the soil, the tougher it will be to aerate, especially when dry.Roller spike aerators don’t remove any earth, so they don’t help with compacted soil in the same way as plug aerators. However, they still make holes that allow air, water and nutrients to get closer to the lawn roots. Manual roller aerators can be quite light, which makes it more difficult to keep the spikes in the ground. Whilst not the most comfortable of shoes, they can be slipped on over gardening boots without much difficulty. They usually have adjustable straps so will fit almost any shoe size. The shoes have anti-slip pads on the bottom to help prevent them from slipping off your boots on wet grass. Plus, the shoes come with a steel shovel you can use to clean out dirt from between the spikes when needed. Overall, we think this aerator might not be the best option for a large lawn, but we think it's great for smaller lawns as long as you don't mind the extra effort. Aeration with solid spikes using equipment such as the garden fork, aerator sandals or shoes, rolling lawn aerators or powered machinery is generally done to a depth between 1 and 6 inches, with the top two inches being the most important. There are also star like slitters that can be inserted as a cassette into turf machinery or towed behind ride-on mowers or lawn tractors. If you’ve got a small area of lawn that needs attention, a hand tool like the Yard Butler ID-6C Manual Lawn Coring Aerator is worth considering.
