About this deal

There are numerous retail options of acrylic wet palette available. Most notable is the Everlasting WetPalette from RedGrass Games. I have both the Painter and Studio Model. I really like these palettes but the paper you get doesn’t act like shown above and this is what I’m used to. It certainly has other benefits but with the little ah-ha moment I’ve shown below. The paper here works. I put paint on top, water is absorbed through it, the paint stays wet. Using a plasticard to smooth out wrinkles Spending some money to make sure I have enough time is the right solution, and I was wasting time making something (badly) that I could buy (cheap, for good quality). Premium wet palettes The other thing people will want to know is whether it is mould resistant or not. well yes it is, it is resistant. But do not confuse that with retardant.

It’s something to be aware of if you’ve left your palette a while, if you’re painting on a warm day, or, like me, live in rented accommodation and are limited to painting in your sweatbox of a conservatory because it’s the only space you’ve got. A wet palette can help avoid this problem, making sure you paint with the right consistency throughout your working process. When I finally found the paper to use, the next batch (of the same stuff) I bought was a brown paper instead of white. I had no idea until I opened the box. This obviously discolours the hues I’m mixing on my palette. The opinion I have on their product is my own and I would recommend it regardless of the review copy they send me.The clear base will let you see inside. This is a benefit over the Everlasting Wet Palette. As the water naturally starts to evaporate it will cling to the lid. being able to see this before you open the palette is helpful. The first time I opened my Everlasting Wet Palette after a few days in the fridge, I sent water everywhere. including into my paint which caused colour mixes I didn’t want Do you use a Wet Palette? What type do you use and why? let us know in the comments Why Use a Wet palette? So, in my infinite omnibenevolence, I decided to write the instructions out for you all again in comprehensive English.

And there you have it, your wet palette is complete. However, there is one annoying thing I found with these DIY wet palettes which I did not have with the retail options. How to Make a Wet Palette – Problem Unlike the Previous versions where the Studio Palette was twice the size of the painter, this time the Studio version is only slightly larger. With the Painter area at 6.5″ x 9.44″, the studio is 8″ x 12″ My only solution has been to get under the paper with a pipette and shoot this into the palette a few times to cover the foam again. I reached out to TAP who advised that this paper is being changed for the final release. Which will slightly reduce the size of the usable area but make it usable for longer periods as you will have space to reload the foam with water. I’ve had my eyes opened to so much from my brief time using this product, and as I was painting my figures I could actually feel myself getting better. So for me, the Everlasting Wet Palette is the best wet palette on the market right now for painting miniatures. It will resist mould to a degree. I intentionally left mine wet with tap water with the lid on and on the desk in my office for about a week, Mould had just started to form on the foam surface. I was able to remove this with normal dish soap. This was just to show how mould can still form. I was intentionally trying to grow it to see how resistant it was. If you don’t use a wet palette already, yes. It will immediately start saving you money on wasted dried out the paint and it will help you in having more consistent paint. From the day I started using a wet palette my painting results improved immediately.

Now, one thing I noticed when dealing with this particular metallic paint was that the palette, not having been watered for a good twenty-odd hours at this point (a working day happened between me stirring my red and starting my silver), was beginning to get a little dry and, as such, did not begin to thin the paint as effectively as it had the previous day when freshly soaked. It’s a really simple bit of kit and you can easily make your own. It consists of (bottom to top) a tray, a water-absorbent layer and a semi-permeable layer of paper. Once done, just add some paint. it should act like I described above and bead on the paper when you add water, rather than spread out. This will only become more important if you want to go all-in and learn how to wet blend your miniatures. 3. Be able to make the paint on the palette usable in your next painting session The reason a semi-permeable layer is added is so the paint can absorb the water but the sponge/tissue won’t absorb the paint.Add water to the hydration foam. I used about 100ml of water for this. As there are no instructions whatsoever in the guidebook as to how much water you should use, I did this more or less blind. I initially added around 100ml of water and slowly upped this to around 100ml. You’ll know the water is being absorbed by the foam because it’ll start to look kinda funky. I had the pleasure of testing out at everlasting wet palette at a friends house and was sold immediately. And that it forces you to have good paint etiquette is excellent. Lazy with your thin coats? Not anymore! The wetness the palette maintains helps ensure your paints are thin and smooth, and apply without streaks, excessive build-up or blemishes. How good is that?! There you go, it’s a simple process with one minor (yes probably obvious) tweak you have a great wet palette that will last years. Besides the Everlasting Wet palette small and big version, you basically have either the Army painter wet palette or the Sta Wet Palette.
