About this deal

Recorded at the renowned Parr Street Studios, ‘We Get By’ is Jamie Webster’s long-awaited, supercharged debut full-length. Jamie Webster interview: "I'm really just trying to do my thing and make my way" ". CelebMix. 10 July 2020 . Retrieved 23 July 2021. Me and my fiancée, Rachel, have a thing about old couples when we’re out. We go: ‘That’ll be us when we’re older.’ Just when I was struggling for lyrics for that song, Rachel texted me a photo of a couple sharing a basket in Tesco. The next song and a personal favourite of mine is Living for Yesterday which is already one of Webster’s singles. It has an acoustic start with a slow tempo which takes a complete turn when an unsuspecting tempo change hits the listener taking away a sense of predictability that might be expected from this genre of music. With a chorus that is almost certainly going to be heard ringing around stadiums in the future, this catchy single ends perfectly by returning to the acoustic melodies heard at the beginning. Webster’s powerful vocals and lively songs with top quality arrangements are a breath of fresh air to the current crop of potential chart success searchers. Jamie’s upbeat and vibrant album blends political and social concerns in his lyrics and crafted highly-listenable tunes.

Better still to square the Liverpudlian and former electrician in the folk tradition, but only because he chooses the least complicated ways to connect with people; a strummed guitar, some welcoming chords and a proudly accented voice, basic tools made good by joy and artistry. Whatever the story, there’s much of the past in his music, a conscious anachronism in an era when the present is constantly trying to erase itself. If it goes the way it can, it’ll be a gig for the ages. I’ve just played to 26,000 people at Liverpool Pier Head, but that show could be the biggest sense of community I’ve ever felt. It could be a night where 40,000 people feel like we’re making a change in the world, that we’re on the cusp of something special. That’s what I want. Well, that and for everyone to have a boss time singing and dancing.” Does it feel extra special that you’ve got this far with little support from the mainstream? The long-awaited album We Get By is finally here and it’s a stunner. The Liverpudlian artist perfectly captures his worldview across an album that is anthemic and ambitious.Jamie Webster secures No.1 in inaugural Official Folk Albums Chart | Talent". Music Week . Retrieved 23 July 2021.

The first song on the album is Down The Road, it gives you a clear impression of the style of music that Webster is going to grace the listener with through this album. A northern familiarity is felt where his accent is seeping through creating comfort in the music. Webster joins the Scottish grassroots sensation Gerry Cinnamon in expanding traditional definitions of folk. (In his covers era, Webster used to perform Cinnamon’s material.) Mark Radcliffe, presenter of BBC Radio 2’s The Folk show, says: “Arguments about what is and isn’t folk are not a new thing. There are always those that want to protect the old traditions. But it’s a broad genre, and Jamie has shown folk can be a very independent endeavour. The idea of traditional folk can sometimes put people off, as it can be a hard listen. He’s making it accessible to people who probably never thought of themselves as folk fans.”After this long in power, how could anyone say the Tories are the answer? Literally any government that isn’t this one has to be the lesser of two evils. I’m not saying Keir Starmer is definitely the answer, but maybe we need to go with him to get Labour in. They could sort out the rest once they’re in. Man of the matches ... Jamie Webster at a Liverpool fans meet and greet event in Boston last year. Photograph: John Powell/Liverpool FC/Getty Images

Webster has also been able to perform to crowds in places such as New Delhi, [13] and supported established Liverpool band Cast, but was disappointed at having to miss out on a Glastonbury Festival since it was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
