About this deal

Hellfire Plasma Cannonade: Now this is a spicy meatball. The standard firing mode, basically a long range plasma gun with a load of shots and without gets hot, is great, but the maximal mode is absolutely bonkers. It’s basically a gravis plasma cannon (which is already great) but with Strength 8, triggering Instant Death on a whole mess of stuff. Awesome for heavy infantry hunting. This is a Scatter dice. Scatter dice are used to make using powerful weapons, like cannons or other heavy artillery a bit more exciting. They work hand-in-hand with the templates that we’ll get to in a moment. We made this extremely speculative table a few weeks ago when we wrote our Horus Heresy Age of Darkness – Price Value and Savings Breakdown article. Please note, we haven’t made many changes to it since then. Because we don’t have anything within the Horus Heresy range to make comparisons to, it’s difficult to surmise what may be worth what. No matter which variant you play, Warhammer is a big game. So, it’s nice when someone gives you something to help you remember what’s supposed to be going on in each turn.

Space Marine tactical squads are able to freely select their squad’s armament for a given mission, and the Chapter Armoury contains many weapons that are ancient and sacred relics. But what a thing it is once it’s complete! There are plenty of optional extras too, including different hull weaponry and the choice to have either a commander or a gunner on top of the tank.Take your time and read every step carefully. You might also want to try leaving assembled components on or next to the set of instructions that create it. This is what I do, and I found it helped with the Contemptor. Spartan Assault Tank

Despite being a prequel to (set 10,000 years before) the more popular Warhammer 40,000. This set shows that The Age of Darkness has truly begun. Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness Review – Introduction Ultramarines, the masters of combined arms tactics, benefits from smaller units working in coordination to take down big targets. This hefty box also contains a Special Weapons Upgrade Set, a Land Raider Proteus , and a Deredeo Dreadnought to provide blistering heavy support to your Legion. One of the most flexible legions, you can actually go a couple of different ways easily enough with this box. The Dark Angels are split up into the six wings of the Hexagrammaton, so it’s common to focus in on one of those for your army, at least to begin with. The big Morbin’ time gun, the Morbus Bombard isn’t even that impressive – it’s a big blast with Pinning and Rending (6+) and a high strength, but the poor AP means you’re hunting for rends against even tactical marines. If you bring a Siege Breaker you can load it with Phosphex shells which is fun but it’s not even a barrage weapon at that point and you’re better bringing a leviathan with phosphex popped on top.

The Special Weapons upgrade set contains 10 meltaguns, 10 plasma guns, 10 volkite calivers, 10 volkite chargers, 10 flamers, and 10 rotor cannons. The sad fact is that despite this being tougher that a lot of flyers, it’s not that tough in the grand scheme of things and at 280 points base it’s expensive. If you give it autocannons and hellstrikes you can just bring a Kratos and honestly you should. Unless you have a great reason for needing a flying death box that’ll be shot out of the sky after a single turn (maybe before it fires a shot), probably not something to bring. Legion Deathstorm Drop Pod Squadron Heavy Bolter: Cheap for sure, but the venerable Heavy Bolter is in a rough place right now. Not enough shots to weigh down the enemy with weight of fire, not enough punch to reliably kill anything with the shots that do land. Some utility for Imperial Fists, but even then they have better things to spend their Heavy Support Slots on. Front-and-centre, we’re going to have a look at the books and reference sheets that come in the Age of Darkness box. The model is also sufficiently different to the Praetor with Power Sword, so people won’t feel as though they’re just two of the same model. MKVI Legion Tactical Marines

GW Warhammer Fest Preview

The Kratos is all but extinct in the 41st Millennium, but it was a common sight during the brutal battles of the Horus Heresy, where every Legion would field these armoured behemoths as line-breakers. From the original leaked blurry images of some yellow and green beakies, to the epic moment it was finally announced at Warhammer Fest 2022, the journey to the Age of Darkness has been a long one for those who have been invested. The Graviton-charge cannon has such a short range (24″) you really need to be putting this thing in danger and also it’s not barrage so you’re going to be in the line of fire as well. Sure a big old 7″ blast is nice, but it’s not useful when you’re really looking to hit vehicles thanks to Haywire. I just don’t see when this is going to achieve much, but it’s probably the best option? Maybe? Prefer fire, melta, and plasma weapons? There’s an upgrade kit for you! It features 10 plasma cannons, 10 heavy flamers, and 10 multi-meltas.

Compared to recent new edition box releases, Age of Darkness doesn’t actually do quite as well in terms of numbers. Indomitus had 61 miniatures, whilst Dominion had 60. However, Age of Darkness A) doesn’t have Hobgrots and B) does have a tank and a dreadnought. I think we can still consider this one to be a fair cop. The Sprues

Vehicle Rules

According to this Warhammer Community post, players can “make one Reaction during each Phase of [their] opponent’s turn – though specific special rules can give you extra Reactions, up to a limit of three per Phase.” I particularly like how in-keeping with the idea of the evolution of the Dreadnought this model is. The 80s sci-fi echo in its design gives the sense model is a progenitor, whilst not being so removed from the Warhammer 40,000 Dreadnoughts of the last ten years to seem like a different unit. It’s like a walking piece of archaeology, like putting a steam locomotive with a neutrino bomb strapped to it next to a Primaris bullet train.
