About this deal

All seven books in this Ellis the Elephant series are autographed by Ambassador Callista L. Gingrich. At the beginning of this story, Ellie the elephant is saddened as the zoo is closing and she is unaware of how she can help. She sees other animals assisting; however, Ellie feels as though she has no special skills. In the end, Ellie accidentally realizes her unexpected skill and helps to save the zoo. This children's book presents the story of an individual who felt as though she had no power but found her voice and her identity through painting. This story is very powerful and speaks to the importance of identity. "Ellie" could prove to be a beneficial supplemental text to encourage students to think about their own skills and abilities and how they are beneficial, as individuals, to the communities they are members of.

Activity: Draw a self-portrait of yourself from a picture. Make sure to include everything about yourself. (Eye color, hair color, if your nails are painted, glasses, etc.) After you are done drawing your self-portrait, write a paragraph explaining your favorite thing about yourself and what makes you special and stand out just like Ellie. The story uses situations that my kids can relate to, like going out for ice-cream or playing on a swing. My son is easily able to understand how much more fun playing on a swing set or eating ice-cream is with a friend, rather than playing on his own.The rhythm and tempo of this song is often used to teach people the rhythm of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The recommended rate for CPR is 100 chest compressions per minute. A study at Coventry University compared the effectiveness of this song in maintaining this rhythm with an alternative of " That's the Way (I Like It)" and no song at all. The version used for the study was from a Little Acorns brand children's record, and was found to have a tempo of 105 beats per minute. Singing the chorus of the song twice, with a compression on each beat, results in exactly 30 compressions, which is the international standard for CPR. [6]

PMID 20008376. Ellie Makes a New Friend” is the first book in the Amazing Adventures of Ellie the Elephant series. I have read the first two book in this series and my kids and I are in love with the stories. My son is an avid train fan and normally will only want to read book about trains, will ask to read the books in this series over and over again. In preceding books, including “Sweet Land of Liberty,”“Land of the Pilgrims’ Pride,”“Yankee Doodle Dandy,”“From Sea to Shining Sea,”“Christmas in America,” and “Hail to the Chief,” Ellis learns about the pivotal moments that have shaped our nation. Now, in Remember the Ladies, this adorable pachyderm explores the fascinating lives of our first ladies.I love Uncle Amon’s stories. There are always wonderful activities included at the end for kids to explore further. Older children should have no trouble reading these stories alone and younger children should enjoy having them read to them.

This is a delightful story. It has a happy ending. The art is gracefully done and peaceful to look upon. "Ellie" reminds us that each one of us has something special to give to the world. Sometimes, it takes a bit of seeking to find that talent, that ability, that specialty. Ellie found hers after much dismay, but she becomes an happy elephant and the reader becomes happier once the tale is told. The zookeeper makes a difficult announcement...the zoo would be closing. To the animals, this was their home. What would happen to them? M.G. Edwards is a writer of books and stories in the mystery, thriller and science fiction-fantasy genres. If that doesn’t happen, then the child is like Ellie, wandering the neighborhood by herself, feeling lost and alone, wanting someone to play with. Even children with friends can relate to this and it is a lesson to the children to go out of their way to say “hello” and ask the new child, “Do you want to play with me(us)?”
