About this deal

So, why choose this one? Firstly, it's smart; using an app from your phone, you can control it from anywhere, even on the school run or while at the supermarket. You can even connect it to your Alexa or Google Home to operate it with the sound of your voice! Secondly, it is powerful; with the ability to extract 25L of water from the air and a six-litre tank capacity, you can rest easy knowing that this dehumidifier has your damp under control. Thirdly, although its power usage is much higher, it is super energy efficient; ElectriQ claims it is 50% more efficient than other standard dehumidifiers. We love that for our energy bills! Lastly, for the price, this dehumidifier doesn’t just control your home's humidity. It also purifies the air and eliminates terrible odours using a combination of UV sterilisation, an active carbon filter and a HEPA filter. In short, it works hard to keep you and your family feeling fit and healthy! The other area the Pro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier with Special Laundry Mode aims to improve upon the performance of its predecessor, thePro Breeze 20L Dehumidifier with Laundry Mode, is in noise levels. Special Laundry Mode: Reduce the drying time of damp laundry indoors by absorbing moisture in the air from wet clothes. This 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier collects up to 12 litres of moisture per day – perfectly suited for removing condensation and combatting mould in medium to large rooms and spaces. The high-performance dehumidifier uses an energy-efficient compressor to speed up the drying of clothes and offers 3 operation modes. A large 2L water tank ensures uninterrupted moisture collection throughout the day, and a drainage hose is included for continuous operation.

However, thePro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier does win on price, coming in a fair bit cheaper than the MeacoDry Arete One. Small, portable and whisper-quiet thanks to Peltier technology, you can keep this sleek-looking dehumidifier on your nightstand or dresser and let it run all night without you even noticing. Although, if you are light-sensitive, we suggest covering up the glowing light! Removing up to 300ml of water, the Silentnight Dehumidifier works all day and all night to improve your bedroom's humidity and simultaneously filter out allergens (perfect for those with hay fever!). Then when the light goes from green to orange, just empty the tank, and start it up again. It's simple, easy to use, and the best dehumidifier for your family's bedrooms! Costs as little as 5 p/hour to run: This unit has been designed to be energy efficient, helping you save money on your bills. According to learnmetrics.com, a dehumidifier uses between 300 watts and 700 watts of energy per hour, depending on size and efficiency. That’s not much - more than your fridge but less than things like kettles and hair dryers. What's the best dehumidifier to buy?

What does a dehumidifier do?

One thing I really like about the Pro Breeze 20L Premium is that it has a couple of different automatic modes so you don’t have to worry about manually choosing the right setting. I was less impressed by the unit's sleep function, as it meant I couldn’t adjust the fan speed, and although this dehumidifier is noisy in all modes (more on that below), it is even more so on a high fan setting. The sleek and modern unit with navy blue exterior stands out from the crowd in all the right ways, and whilst it doesn't have built-in wheels like most dehumidifiers of this size, the integrated carry handle and mid-weight build make it relatively easy to transport from room to room. If you want a more compact build, then there is also a 12L and 14L model available.

We've crunched the numbers for the biggest dehumidifier manufacturers, including DeLonghi, Ebac and Meaco, and have calculated a customer score for each, so you know which brands are recommended by owners. However, it's not perfect. A powerful extraction rate of 20L, plus that Laundry boost mode, means higher running costs. This dehumidifier guzzles 440W of energy compared to the 20L MeacoDry Arete One's 216W. What the Pro Breeze 20L Premium does offer is a more generous water tank of 5.5L compared to the 20L MeacoDry Arete One's 4.8L, although in practice we didn't find ourselves emptying the MeacoDry that much more frequently.

Like me, some users also found the water tank capcacity too small considering the extraction rate that can be achieved per day, which left them having to empty it frequently. Verdict As Chris Michael, Managing Director of the air quality brand Meaco says, inside the home, 'excess moisture in the air can come from drying clothes in the house, boiling vegetables, putting the kettle on, bathing, showering, open flame gas style heating, damp clothing, breathing, and the damp British weather.' The bit that this dehumidifier really struggles with is the handle. Rather than a fold-up handle like you see on other models in the range, such as the ProBreeze 12L and the ProBreeze 30L, this 20L Premium model has recessed hand-holds in the body of the dehumidifier.

As previously mentioned, emptying the water tank on the Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier was neither easy nor a pleasant experience. A large 1.8L water tank ensures continuous moisture collection throughout the day, and a drainage hose is included for optional plumbing into a drain or container for long-term use. The De'Longhi Tascuigo AriaDry DEX216F is the largest model in the range and able to extract 16L of water from the air per day, and although the tank capacity isn't the largest, at 2.1L it still offers adequate capacity. This multi-purpose appliance also has an air purifier function with a double filtration system that can remove dust and other allergens from the air, plus a dedicated Laundry Drying function.

How to choose the best dehumidifier for your home

If you have more serious damp issues, then although a dehumidifier can help to reduce the problem and improve the air quality in your home, it won't prevent the damp from occurring in the first place, so it's important to get to the root of the issue. Read our guide to how to get rid of damp for help in identifying the cause of your damp issues, and how to treat them.

If you are looking for a no-fuss, no-faff dehumidifier, then Currys Essentials has the best 10L dehumidifier for you! Quite a few Mumsnetters mentioned it by name because it is easy to use, effective and reasonably priced, perfect for those who can live without the bells and whistles. A desiccant dehumidifier differs in that it uses an absorbent material or chemical dessicant to extract moisture from the air. This means they can operate efficiently in lower temperatures, down to just 1°C, and are useful for garages, basements, conservatorys, or unheated rooms in the house over winter. However, they're usually more expensive both upfront and in terms of running costs than a compressor dehumidifier, so unless you're looking to remove damp at cold temperatures you're generally best off with a compressor model. Large Water Tank: The 1.8L water tank automatically shuts off when full, with a continuous drainage hose included for long-term use. Large Water Tank: Features a large 2-litre water tank and a hose for continuous drainage, allowing you to run the dehumidifier for long periods of time without emptying the tank. Automatic Humidity Sensor: The built-in humidity sensor allows you to set your desired room humidity between 30%-80%.Living in a Victorian terraced house, our home does suffer with damp and mould, and this dehumidifier extracted enough moisture from the air to fill the water tank in just four hours when I first powered it up. It's fair to say that most dehumidifiers aren't the most stylish of appliances, which is why the De'Longhi Tascuigo AriaDry Multi Dehumidifier is something of a breath of fresh air amidst the usual boxy white plastic designs.
