About this deal

I read this when I was a student (in the original Japanese version). After seeing it mentioned in How to Talk About Books You Haven't Read, I'm tempted to reread it. This early graphic novel from two-time Theodor Seuss Geisel Honoree Paul Meisel is perfect for first graders learning to read on their own.

Silence - the dog crawls out by the glass door and he snoozes again. The cat toys with his mouse. "Rumble Rumble," storm clouds are everywhere. The dog hides under a chair, and the cat discovers a ball of yarn for his amusement.Homer's death on August 21, 2013, as well as the passing of Scarlett and Vashti, are also recounted. He aquí uno de los mejores pasajes del libro: Delgado describes this book as, “A lovely little book for parents and kids to read together. It covers the development, socialization and training of cats, and broadly covers basic cat behavior. This book also guides parents through what responsibilities for cat care children can be responsible for, and how parents should supervise. Nice photos of body language and activities.” This short and sweet book is all about body language, featuring many lovely pictures of cats, giving solid descriptions of feline body language and what it means — is your cat enjoying that petting? Are your cats fighting or playing? What is all that cheek rubbing about?

Part survival tale, part nautical adventure, and part spiritual journey, author Yann Martel’s novel is fantastical and heart-wrenching in equal measure. The Ninth Life of a Blind Wonder Cat details the continuing story of Homer and his family following the 2009 publication of Homer’s Odyssey, which saw him evolve from beloved house cat to one of the world's most recognizable felines. Cooper reveals Homer's “involvement” in the wind-up to the publication of Homer’s Odyssey, including Homer's photo sessions, encounters with his publisher's team and meeting members of the press.

Paul Meisel is also the author/illustrator of My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis (Holiday House Publishers) which was named by the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prizes as a 2018 finalist for best books of the year in the Children's Science Picture Books category. My Happy Year by E. Bluebird (about Eastern Bluebirds) and My Stinky Summer by S. Bug (about brown marmorated stink bugs) are two other books in this Nature Diary series. Despite his experience and worldly wisdom, Sugar Zach is left perplexed as to how he is to get her under control. Second, while reading this subtly-amused novel, its readers also gain more information and knowledge on various famous English literary men. For instance, "When Carlyle was presented to the queen, he, being an eccentric and anyway a man totally unschooled in court procedures, suddenly sat down on a chair. All the chamberlains and ladies-in-waiting standing ranged behind the queen began to giggle. Well, not quite. They were about to start giggling when the quen turned around toward them and signaled them also to be seated. Carlyle was thus saved from any embarassment. ..." (p. 443) Or "Sir Francis Bacon observed in his Novum Orgnum that one can only triumph over nature by obeying the laws of nature. ..." (p. 443) And "This stage of the literary figure is already evidenced in England where two of their leading novelists, Henry James and George Meredith, have personailties so strong and so strongly reflected in their novels that very few people care to read them. ..." (p. 457) Bad Blinitz already has a rat problem, and beneath that, an even greater issue – an unnamed evil presence that seems to be controlling everything … and getting stronger.

The "I" in the title (and used throughout the story) is a challenge, too. Well, maybe not so much for translation, because there is only one first person singular pronoun in English, so it has to be "I"; however, in Japanese, there are many words that can be used to indicate the first person, each with a different feel, indicating the speaker's gender, age, social class, etc. Here, the cat uses "wagahai". Wiki implies this word is used by nobility, but not quite so. An aristocrat whose family had lived in Kyoto for generations wouldn't have used this word. It's not lowly, either. It was used by men with reasonable education--like Soseki himself. (Overall, the language and the sense of humor of this book is very Edo/Tokyo-ish of his time.) Now you don't actually need to be a cat fancier to enjoy this book. It's simply a device used as an external viewpoint on us crazy humans. While there are occasions where the appreciation of the feline species will give you some extra laughs, the majority of the book feels like an old-fashioned omniscient narrator tale. Even the no-name cat remarks on his uncanny ability to read human minds and decipher the psychology behind our actions. Of course, there are a plethora of translated novels about cats and their nine lives. Or, maybe you wish to take a road trip with your best feline friend. You honestly cannot go wrong with nonfiction books about cats set in the library. Plus, if you are looking for cat books for young readers, know that there’s a special edition just for them. Brett, Jennifer. "Feline-loving author plans book signing at cat shelter". The Atlanta Journal-Constitution . Retrieved March 7, 2019. Meet Dewey Readmore Books, an abandoned kitten who becomes a small-town library cat and national celebrity. También en la novela, Sōseki realiza una auténtica revalorización de la antigua cultura samuráis, las costumbres japonesas y los hábitos de su gente como la comida, la cultura, la vestimenta, etc. Cooper, Gwen (August 28, 2013). "Homer, Heroic Blind 'Wonder Cat' Who Inspired Millions, Dies in New York at 16". HuffPost . Retrieved March 7, 2019.

This book is a classic, user-friendly guide to cat care and behavior. It covers everything from setting up your home to be safe and fun for your cat to resolving common behavior issues (from the litterbox to furniture-scratching). An excellent period piece satire on the ever more enlightened Japan that the characters were living in, I Am A Cat is an essential read for anyone with, a)an interest in humour and b)an interst in Japan turned into the place it is today. With considerable help from the accomplished Mikel Delgado ( @ mikel_maria), a Certified Cat Behavior Consultant, blogger extraordinaire, and PhD Candidate in Psychology at University of California, Berkeley, we compiled the best books for cat lovers on your gift list. Our list features four sections with academic texts, general introductions to cat behavior, a section on play and environmental enrichment, and a final section on learning and training. I can assure you, none of these books would be so silly as to suggest that your cat wants to kill you.
