About this deal

Biore belongs to the Japanese company Kao. Kao has been around since 1887 (!), started with manufacturing soaps and has been branching out ever since. They own not only brands you might associate with J-Beauty like Kate, Kanebo and MegRhythm, but also John Frieda, Oribe and Molton Brown. Description Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Spf50+ Pa++++ For my everyday makeup look, I usually apply concealer or foundation on top of my sunscreen. When I used the Biore Sunscreen in the same method, my makeup did not budge at all, which means that it’s very effective to use as a makeup primer. The new, improved release consists of (…) Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence, a watery essence with a transparent feel that blends effortlessly with the skin, (…), delivering maximum UV protection of SPF50+ and PA++++.

May be drying to some people’s skin types, or vice versa, greasy (may depend on your skin type or environment you live in) Unfortunately, Japanese sunscreens don’t list the percentage of active sunscreen ingredients at the top of the label, the way American ones do. So it took a bit of research to find the active sunscreen ingredients in this formula: I’m not sure how the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence became one of the most popular sunscreens in Japan. But it is and I’m so glad I get to access it. Biore UV Aqua Rich Light Up Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ isn’t as great as the original and much beloved Biore UV Aqua Rich Light Up Essence SPF 50+ PA++++. But I felt a little more protected using this if you can believe that and although, it had a white cast and took a bit longer to absorb I thought it wore very comfortably and looked great under makeup. I would buy it again! During my trip to Japan last fall, I tried to keep an eye out for the most popular cosmetics (specifically, I was mainly interested in face masks and sunscreens). Biore UV Aqua Rich Water Essence was definitely one of the most commonly spotted products on many shelves, so it seems like it’s pretty popular.

Water, Ethanol, Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, Ethylhexyl triazone, Isopropyl palmitate, Lauryl Methacrylate/Sodium Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, Hydrogenated polyisobutene, Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine, Dextrin Palmitate, BG, Xylitol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Dimethicone, alkyl benzoate (C12-15), Glycerin, Glyceryl stearate, Propanediol, Glyceryl behenate, Vinyl dimethicone / methicone Silsesquioxane crosspolymer, Cetanol, Agar, Sorbitan distearate, Isoceteth-20, Polyvinyl alcohol, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Arginine, Potassium hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Royal jelly extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Phenoxyethanol, EDTA-2Na, BHT, Fragrance This is formulated for those that require protection from the sun but won’t be in the sun for longer periods of time. It’s a sunscreen you want to wear if you’re dashing around outside a bit but aren’t going to be exposed to the sun for long periods of time. It’s a great daily SPF. I tan easily and this won’t prevent me from tanning but it will help to protect my skin when I wear it. water, ethanol, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, lauryl methacrylate/sodium methacrylate crosspolymer, alkyl benzoate, bisethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine, diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, dimethicone, ethylhexyl triazone, silica dimethyl silylate, dipropylene glycol, xylitol, dextrin palmitate, acrylates/ This formula also contains silicones, which may cause breakouts in some people (though my skin doesn’t seem to react negatively to silicones). It also includes royal jelly extract, which is used more commonly in Asia than in the U.S. According to this article, royal jelly is applied topically to help reduce inflammation and moisturize the skin. Overall, I have to say, it is pretty difficult to think of any cons, because the product works very well with my skin. Nonetheless, I will be listing some cons that do not apply to myself, but may be applied to others. The Pros:

1I’m sure you’ve come across Biore products at one point or the other. You’ll be happy to know that it is originally a Japanese brand owned by Kao Cooperation and established in 1887. But in 1997, they launched in the U.S market which is why you see a lot of their products in drugstores. But the problem with these products is that they have been altered to cater to the U.S market. This is why I never hesitate to buy my products directly from Japan because I know I will be getting an authentic Japanese product.

My dad formulated sunscreens for American companies that sold their products in Europe, but still didn’t use actives that weren’t approved in the U.S. So he doesn’t have personal experience with these non-U.S.-approved actives. However, he does think that the actives have very good field data and have performed well for European consumers over the years. Therefore, he thinks that this sunscreen will be a good formula, as long as it’s stable.I solemnly swear to research skin care and beauty products, ask my dad (the chemist) for advice, and share those findings with you! This is an SPF 50 the 50 references the amount of time you can stay in the sun and be protected without getting burnt. PA++++ means the wearer can withstand at least 16 times more UVA radiation before tanning. The UV and UVB filter here is titanium oxide as well as tinosorb s. There are two other filters here but the more important of the four are the TO and TS which act to filter out the harmful UV and UVB rays. Both items are formulated for the face and body, delivering maximum UV protection of SPF 50+ and PA++++. I was a little concerned about this new version of Biore UV Aqua Rich Essence as they kept promoting it as “shiny” and “radiant”. I do not want a glow from my sunscreen thanks so much. I thought for sure this would be some sort of highlighting formula that contain mica or something equally awful. Thankfully enough all that radiant, shininess they are talking about doesn’t exist and seems to be part of their marketing to promote this as a formula that’s great for duller skin. Shrug…!

US FDA is very cautious on the approvals of drugs, it can take longer than a decade, they want to make sure long term safety test data. c10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, polysilicone-9, glyceryl stearate, aminomethyl propanol, vinyl dimethicone/ I thought it was very comfortable to wear and super breathable. It also removed very easily at the end of the day. It’s not something I’d rely on if I were out and about for longer periods of time in the sun but it’s ideal for heading into the office, running around a few stores, etc….! It’s lightweight, it wears well under makeup without pilling or looking too dewy or greasy, and it feels very smooth. The white cast is a bit of a pain the deal with and the fact it takes a little time for it to absorb but you can apply it before anything else and go dry your hair or get dressed and by the time you’re done you’ll be ready to apply your makeup!
