About this deal

The pros of mineral oilcan be interpreted as cons if we look at them from another perspective. Not penetrating the skin but mostly just sitting on top of it and not containing biologically active components, like nice fatty acids and vitamins meanthat mineral oil does not "nourish" the skin in the way plant oils do. Mineral oil doesnot give the skin any extra goodness, it is simply a non-irritating moisturizer working mainly by occlusivity. It has some emollient, but mostly occlusive properties meaning it creates a film over the top of skin which keeps it hydrated by preventing water from evaporating. ( 9) This is why mineral oil is considered non-comedogenic. ( 10) In other words, its molecule structure is simply too big to penetrate the skin and clog pores. And last but not least, one study found that thermal spring water can reduce the irritation caused by tretinoin when treating acne. ( 5)

Finally I read an article stating Avene tolerance control was rated the best cream to use with tretinoin. So I rush to my local chemist and I'm so glad I did!!!The face cream, Skin Recovery Cream, is developed by Avène. Face cream is one product that few people can do without. Not only does it keep skin supple and smooth, it is also a preventative measure against pre-mature ageing and environmental damage. Area of Use Unlike the Avene Recovery Cream, the Avene Extreme Tolerance Emulsion doesn’t contain glyceryl stearate or preservatives. Rest assured, it is still very sanitary cosmetic product because it comes in a patented sterilized and hermetic (i.e. airtight) container. Here’s the full ingredient list: Recently I started using tretinoin and began the tretinoin purge, which causes your skin to become hypersensitive, skin peeling, redness and acne. I have alot of different creams and everyone of them was irritating my skin, clogging my pores more and giving me burning sensation.

I have written an extensive guide about how to treat these conditions as well as explain why esters should be avoided. Link here for those interested. Point being, the glyceryl stearate in this formula won’t be suitable for all skin types. An 84 day randomized, controlled clinical trial involving 74 patients, 40 of whom used thermal spring water, found that it reduced erythema (redness), itching, skin tightness, and stinging after a laser resurfacing procedure. ( 1) All in all, I think this is a decent product but personally recommend the Avene Extreme Tolerance Emulsion over this. It has all the same beneficial ingredients MINUS the preservatives and esters, which could prove problematic to those with fungal sensitives, or hyper-sensitive skin. This cosmetic contains no parabens, preservatives or alcohol. In addition, this cream is 100% fragrance free. Avène Skincare

A clinical study with 92 patients found that thermal spring water completely cleared up psoriasis in 8% of patients, and marginal improvement (about 50%) was seen in 48% of participants. ( 4) In case you don’t know what psoriasis looks like, here’s an old photo of mine. Minimum number of ingredients selected for their gentleness – 98% of ingredients from natural origin Rapidly soothes irritations, nourishes and moisturises, helping restore the skin’s barrier to reduce skin’s reactivity to external environmental factors. The very gentle formula contains the minimum number of ingredients for better tolerance.

This an ester that’s used to emulsify, that is, bind water and oil in the formula. It’s a very common emulsifier found in many products, and is generally well-tolerated. However, if you’re prone to adult acne or have sensitivities to yeast malassezia, it might cause your skin to act up. Contrary to popular belief mineral oil isn’t bad at all! It’s really just baby oil without fragrance, and it’s considered one of the best tolerated oils available today. ( 6, 7) In fact, one survey involving 514 participants conducted on skincareaddiction.reddit.com found it was the most frequently used oil for OCM across every single skin type (acne-prone, oily, dry, sensitive, balanced, dehydrated, rosacea etc.) ( 8)Ingredients include thermal water, glycerine and squalane. Glycerine helps to hydrate the outer layer of skin by drawing moisture from the deeper levels, making skin feel smoother and softer. For this reason, I recommend the Avene Extreme Tolerance Emulsion over the Avene Skin Recovery Cream. I think the product is just as good, but even more suitable for all skin types. Application, Feel, and Scent. I would recommend this product to anyone using tretinoin/retinol or with a broken skin barrier and needing skin repair! Due to my skin been very dry I find myself apply this cream about 3 times during the day to keep my skin moist. #AvèneReview And that does it for all the ingredients of interest. Like I said earlier, just a very basic formula that has eliminated everything potentially problematic to ensure it is tolerated by even the most sensitive skin types. Cons of the Avene Skin Recovery Cream. Trust us, if something is used for more than 100 years in cosmeticproducts, it hasadvantages. Chemically speaking, cosmetic grade mineral oil is a complex mixture ofhighly refined saturated hydrocarbons with C15-50 chain length. It is not merely a "by-product" but rather a specifically isolated part of petroleum that is very pure and inert.
