About this deal

After leaving school, Lynda La Plante briefly worked as a trainee at a fashion house before moving to London to pursue an acting career. She landed a role in a touring production of the musical Cabaret and later worked as a nightclub hostess to make ends meet. In the early 1970s, she turned to writing, penning episodes of popular British television shows like Z-Cars and The Sweeney. Lynda was so successful with her TV shows and her books that she decided to make her own television production company, called La Plante Productions. Through this company she has written many TV shows in the UK, all of which have been very successful. The one that is still on TV now is the famous Trial and Retribution.

Lynda La Plante’s book list, including her numerous book series, has been translated into over 30 languages and has sold over 15 million copies worldwide. She has won numerous awards for her writing, including the Edgar Award for Best TV Feature/Mini-Series Teleplay for Prime Suspect 2 in 1993 and the Crime Writers’ Association Diamond Dagger in 2008 for lifetime achievement in crime writing. There doesn't seem to be an upcoming book in The Anna Travis Series. The newest book is Wrongful Death and was released on August, 29th 2013. She dipped in and out of screenwriting and acting, best known for her magnificent work on the Prime Suspect televisions series. Lynda has a strong focus on crime and thriller, as she discovered when she wrote her first series for Thames Television, Widows, in 1983. After this turning point in her life, Lynda signed her first book-deal with Pan MacMillan, who helped her publish her very first novel, The Legacy, in 1987. Another major distraction is that whilst in the earlier books there is a lot of concentration on the relationship between Travis and Langton, it's rise and ultimate fall fitted into the storylines well, not distracting from the main aim of the books which was always to solve a baffling crime. Unfortunately in this book - with the definite end of the relationship the constant soul-searching of Travis just gets in the way - there were way too many times when the reader was told all about how conflicted she is having to work with Langton, how she still loves Langton, how a new relationship will be complicated by the pain she felt when Langton left her. And she does form a new relationship in this book - and it is a bit of a highlight in the storyline for a short while. Having said that, for the life of me I could not work out why Senior FBI Agent Jessie Dewar. What on earth she was doing there, why she had to be so universally unpleasant, difficult, opinionated, escaped me completely. Unless she was there to be the token out of step foreigner? Still can't get it straight in my own mind.Guest cast in this series include Jason Durr as Alan Daniels; Emma Pollard as Melissa Stephens; and Malcolm Storry as John McDowell. The Daily Telegraph described the series as "Lynda La Plante's younger, sassier successor to Prime Suspect." [3] Episode La Plante’s influence on the crime drama genre cannot be overstated. Her strong female characters and gritty, realistic depictions of police work have inspired countless writers and filmmakers. She has also been an advocate for women’s rights and has used her platform to raise awareness about issues like domestic violence and sexual assault.

Above Suspicion: Lynda La Plante's younger, sassier successor to Prime Suspect The Telegraph. 30 December 2008 WRONGFUL DEATH is the ninth book in the Anna Travis series from Lynda La Plante. Which therefore requires a confession. I started to struggle with this series around book 4 (DEADLY INTENT), and never managed to finish book 5 (SILENT SCREAM) or book 6 (BLIND FURY). So on the upside, I did manage to finish WRONGFUL DEATH. On the downside it was a disappointment. Above Suspicion is a British crime drama based on the series of Anna Travis novels written by Lynda La Plante. The series stars Kelly Reilly and Ciarán Hinds as the protagonists Anna Travis and James Langton. Four series were broadcast over a total of four years on ITV. The first episode was broadcast on 4 January 2009, and the final episode on 28 January 2012. The first three series all aired on consecutive nights; whereas the fourth series a more traditional weekly format.Lynda has received a huge amount of awards over her time in the field, including becoming an honorary-member of both the Liverpool John Moores University and British Film Institute. She was also awarded with the Dennis-Potter Writers-Award from the British-Academy of Film and Television Arts, and she received the Edgar-Allan Poe Writer’s Award (not to mention an Emmy) for her mini-series Prime Suspect. The team receive a letter which claims that another victim will die if the killer is not caught in time. Meanwhile, Anna interviews another woman who answered the same advertisement as the first victim. However, it's not long before a second victim is discovered, and Langton is angry when despite pressing for a veto on information given to the press, the story breaks anyway.
