About this deal

it felt like not-a-good Solangelo fanfic. (I know we kinda expected that too, but it felt repetitive & slow pace. I just didn't expect this from an author. I read a lot of better fanfics.)

Bridging the worlds of film and publishing is getting a lot easier, but it is still tough. I approach it the same way I approach learning a new language. Even after two and a half years learning, I still struggle with fluency. I’ve found it a fascinating challenge, though. And as I’ve said before, I am in awe of just how hard film people work and how dedicated they have to be to bring something to the screen. Every minute or every show you watch requires hundreds of people working several weeks to create. The solar wind blows in all directions. It continues moving at that speed for about 10 billion kilometers (six billion miles). The chromosphere gives off jets of burning gases called spicules, similar to solar flares. These fiery wisps of gas reach out from the chromosphere like long, flaming fingers; they are usually about 500 kilometers (310 miles) in diameter. Spicules only last for about 15 minutes, but can reach thousands of kilometers in height before collapsing and dissolving. Eventually, as the Sun burns helium to form heavier elements, it will reach a critical point where fusion cannot release enough energy to form new elements, so fusion will end.

‘The Sun and the Star’ publishes on May 2, 2023.

In 1800, infrared and ultraviolet light were discovered to exist just outside of the visible spectrum. An optical instrument called a spectroscope made it possible to separate visible light and other electromagnetic radiation into its various wavelengths. Spectroscopy also helped scientists identify gases in the sun’s atmosphere—each element has its own wavelength pattern. For a long time, Nico had assumed he himself did not have a heart. He was the son of Hades, after all. Love didn't find people like him. Astronomers, however, call the sun a “yellow dwarf” star because its colors fall within the yellow-green section of the electromagnetic spectrum. Over those five billion years, the sun will go from “yellow dwarf” to “ red giant.” When almost all of the hydrogen in the sun’s core has been consumed, the core will contract and heat up, increasing the amount of nuclear fusion that takes place. The outer layers of the sun will expand from this extra energy. Making their way into the Underworld through the Door of Orpheus, which Nico and Percy had previously used, the two demigods are immediately set upon by the demon of nightmares, Epiales, who reveals that their mother is after Nico before Will manages to kill the demon using his newly-discovered power to emit light. Nico and Will seek out the help of the troglodytes, who agree to lead them to a shortcut to Tartarus. But first, they pass the farm of Menoetes, who only agrees not to tell Hades about their quest in exchange for some stolen fruit from Persephone's garden. Although the heist is successful, Will encounters Persephone herself, who offers him advice on his struggles to understand Nico, suggesting that Will embrace his own inner darkness rather than rejecting it, before gifting Will the stolen pomegranates.

The sun and the star are what Bob refers to Will and Nico as: when they combine their powers together to free Bob, Will is described as burning with the brightness of a thousand suns while Nico burns like a red giant, a star ready to explode. However, the method by which the sun generated its energy remained a mystery. Many scientists hypothesized that the sun was contracting, and emitting heat from that process. Some of the particles reach an escape velocity of 400 kilometers per second (249 miles per second). They escape the sun’s gravitational pull and become the solar wind. The solar wind blasts from the sun to the edge of the solar system.Pumpkin — A verb referring to when child actors have to stop working at the end of the day according to labor laws. It is written on each day’s call sheet, for example: “BG Kids pumpkin at 8:30pm.” For those who don’t know the Cinderella story about the coach turning into a pumpkin at midnight, the reference could be a little confusing. The sun, although it has sustained all life on our planet, will not shine forever. The sun has already existed for about 4.5 billion years. After that, the Sun will shed its outer layers, surrounding itself with a colorful bubble of gas called a planetary nebula. As the nebula dissipates, distributing carbon, oxygen, and other elements into the galaxy, only the Sun's collapsed core will remain -- a dense ball no bigger than Earth, containing about 60 percent of the Sun's original mass. This dead remnant is called a white dwarf. Over many billions of years, the white-dwarf Sun will cool and fade from sight, leaving behind a dark cosmic ember. What are sunspots? Mark and I are planning to do a limited North American tour together, which will be my first in-person tour since 2019. More details on this as soon as we have them. Solar prominences are bright loops of solar matter. They can burst far into the coronal layer of the sun, expanding hundreds of kilometers per second. These curved and twisted features can reach hundreds of thousands of kilometers in height and width, and last anywhere from a few days to a few months.

We first met Iapetus in “The Sword of Hades,” in which Ethan Nakamura released him from Tartarus. Percy defeated the Titan and then dragged him into the River Lethe to wipe his memories, convincing Iapetus that his real name is actually Bob. We revisit the Titan in House of Hades, when Percy and Annabeth are forced to traverse Tartarus. Percy learns a hard lesson here, realizing that he had completely forgotten Bob since his first run-in. For his part, Bob slowly regains his memories, but instead of being mad at Percy, he realizes he was a bad person and actively chooses to make better choices in the future. It’s only because of his sacrifice that Percy and Annabeth are able to escape the Underworld. This is where we get the line, “Tell the sun and stars hello for me.” The sun has not always been a subject of scientific discovery and inquiry. For thousands of years, the sun was known in cultures all over the world as a god, a goddess, and a symbol of life. The first part of the book is framed as Nico and Will telling the story to Gorgyra in exchange for her help. This ends when they catch up to the present and leave for Tartarus. As the son of Hades, Nico di Angelo has been through so much, from the premature deaths of his mother and sister, to being outed against his will, to losing his friend Jason during the trials of Apollo. But there is a ray of sunshine in his life—literally: his boyfriend, Will Solace, the son of Apollo. Together the two demigods can overcome any obstacle or foe. At least, that’s been the case so far… The solar wind fills the heliosphere, the massive bubble of charged particles that encompasses the solar system.

The vast majority of electromagnetic waves that come from the sun are invisible to us. The most high-frequency waves emitted by the sun are gamma rays, x-rays, and ultraviolet radiation (UV rays). The most harmful UV rays are almost completely absorbed by Earth’s atmosphere. Less potent UV rays travel through the atmosphere, and can cause sunburn. The sun is made up of six layers: core, radiative zone, convective zone, photosphere, chromosphere, and corona. Solar prominences are cooler than the corona, and they appear as darker strands against the sun. For this reason, they are also known as filaments.

Sunlight provides necessary light and energy to plants and other producers in the food web. These producers absorb the sun’s radiation and convert it into energy through a process called photosynthesis. this book was honestly just… boring??? like it wasn’t the iconic riordan writing and u could 100% tell that this wasn’t riordan writing. it read like a fanfic and the pacing was absolutely terrible??? like i loved the small crumbs of solangelo but the development was NOT there. The sun itself is white, which means it contains all the colors in the visible spectrum. The sun appears orangish-yellow because the blue light it emits has a shorter wavelength, and is scattered in the atmosphere—the same process that makes the sky appear blue. I know I am so out of the age range of a middle grade book but I don't think that means a book should be this bad of an addition to a series loved by many for me to brush it off for being older than the audience. The radius of the sun, or the distance from the very center to the outer limits, is about 700,000 kilometers (432,000 miles). That distance is about 109 times the size of Earth’s radius. The sun not only has a much larger radius than Earth—it is also much more massive. The sun’s mass is more than 333,000 times that of Earth, and contains about 99.8 percent of all of the mass in the entire solar system! Solar energy technology harnesses the sun’s radiation and converts it into heat, light, or electricity.
