When shooting inAperture Priority mode with Auto ISO switched on, the camera will opt for a shutter speed that is near or roughlythe equivalent of 'one over the (equivalent) focal length'. Burst shooting rate varies based on the file format in which you're shooting and the focus mode. The RX10 II is at its fastest when shooting JPG images in Speed Priority mode. It registered 12.5fps in our tests, a pace at which it kept for 45 Extra Fine or 53 Fine captures. That's a little shy of the 14fps Sony claims the camera is capable of, but it's still plenty fast. The electronic shutter is utilized in Speed Priority mode, so the RX10 II is completely silent when capturing burst images. Raw or Raw+JPG is a little slower, about 7.5fps, and the shooting duration is limited to 28 shots before the camera slows. This lens also differs in the sense that it has a variable maximum aperture range of f/2.4-f/4 rather than the constant f/2.8 adopted in last year’s addition to the market. This is understandable given the effective 400mm extra focal length and is still an impressive maximum aperture at the far scale of the focal range. While the camera is capable of delivering plenty of detail, we did notice some softness at the very edges of frame under close inspection when shooting maximum wideangle and when shooting handheld it’s worth taking two of three shots of the same subject at maximum telephoto setting to ensure one’s a ‘keeper’. That said, the dead weight and bulk of the camera at least proves a positive in such circumstances, enabling the user to hold it fairly steady in both hands and mimimise any possibility of camera shake leading to unwanted softness of image. In short there aren’t many pronounced negatives to this model.

If Face Detection is enabled, it’ll over-ride any of the area options if a human face is detected. If you’ve pre-registered specific faces with the camera, it’ll also give them priority over others – handy at an event like a wedding where you can prioritise the bride and groom in a group shot. There’s also optional smile detection which will trigger the shutter automatically when the mouth on the detected face reaches a preset level of happiness or toothiness. At 1040k the Lumix FZ330 / FZ300’s screen actually shares the same colour resolution as the Sony RX10 II which simply employs an additional white dot which in theory should deliver a brighter view, although in my tests the two models looked similar. The 24-600mm f/2.4-4 aperture lens in the RX10 IV and III is also a high quality Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* but is now constructed of 18 elements in 13 groups with 6 aspheric elements including an AA lens, whereas the RX10 II 24-200mm lens was constructed of 14 elements in 11 groups with 7 aspheric elements including an AA lens. balance des blancs option tungstène : je n'ai pas compris, les photos (avec ou sans flash) sont toutes bleues...
