About this deal

To celebrate the fact that the Premier League might still award the trophy to Liverpool this season I thought we'd have a maths spelling game. Investigate how they can find 1/2 of different amounts (even numbers only to start). Explain "We write this down as 1/2 or half. The whole number is shared equally into two parts. To find half we count 1 part that is why it is 1/2" You can develop this further by looking at quarters- 4 parts counting 1 part. You will need a grid each, and two dice, and colouring pencils. Youngest player starts. On your turn, throw the 2 dice. Then colour in a rectangle using the numbers on the dice for the lengths of its sides. Fill your numbers in in the column on the right as a multiplication. You can colour your rectangle wherever you like on the grid as long as there is space. If you don’t have space, you miss a turn. The other is parts of a plant for science. We started to explore this when we were outdoor learning in the school grounds:

Hide and seek: Write a set of instructions on how to find something in your bedroom. Think about the positional language to help find the object. You could include a map. The word ‘sport’ contains the sound ‘or’. Ask your child to list as many words as they can containing the ‘or’ sound. Your child might identify words that contain an alternative spelling for ‘or’ such as oor/ore/aw/au. Look at the first illustration of the UFO. How many different colours can you see? Can you try to create a similar picture? If you don’t have access to books or magazines use the learners guides https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zyhp34j)Carry out some role-play activities in which one person imagines that they are Heather. What questions would you like to ask her? How might she respond? Then record the main events from this sporty story. They can draw the events, write sentences or even retell the story orally in their own words. Imagine that Heather tells her son about the adventures that she has had with the alien. What would she say? Could you write or record that story?

You could film them making it like my world kitchen (or just watch some of these for inspiration....who doesn't love Ainsley Harriet!) Create a mask : Using different materials around the house, create a mask of your favourite animal. Think about the colours and shape. Can you add different textures to your mask? The next lesson in the White Rose fraction maths can be found here if you have access to online learning. There should be more than one paragraph and you should use full stops. There should also be some noun phrases to describe the setting/characters (curlybrown hair, beautiful golden throne) Use this link to find a video to explain todays learning when counting fractions. There are also challenges to go along with it that can be printed.Could you planthe sequel to 'Do Not Wash This Bear' based on the end of the book from Monday's bedtime story? For maths use the 6th of May bitesize lesson today on number facts. This should recap and sharpen those skills. Record the animals that have paw prints that will reach exactly 20 cm if they were placed one in front of the other. How did you find your answer? Draw pictures of different animals. Sort the animals into two groups; suitable for a pet and not suitable for a pet. Explain why animals were sorted in a particular way.

This could be one you already have lined up for lunch or dinner ( it could just be a sandwich cut into an interesting shape) Each lesson includes their resources. These lessons are made for a Year 3 class, however, they could be used for Year 2 or Year 4 too. Today guys we are working on fractions- finding 1/2 or 1/4 of a set of things is an easy way to do this at home.Use anything you have that are the 'same' like pieces of pasta or pens.Nocturnal animals are more active at night than during the day. These animals sleep during the day, often in a burrow or den. They have special adaptations that help them survive in the dark. Over millions of years, these animals have developed traits that help them survive in the darkness. Nocturnal animals may have larger ears to hear better, bigger eyes to see better, and body parts that glow in the night. Which animals fit this category? Traditional celebration: Talk to an adult and ask about any traditional celebrations you may have as a family. Why do you celebrate them? How do you celebrate them and when? Do you have to wear different clothes and eat different food? Could you record this in a picture or piece of writing Unfortunately, she forgets to write the name of the animal next to the measurements, but she does remember some facts about each one. Using your story map I want you to write the start of a you story. Don't forget to include a setting description and introduce your characters.
