About this deal

If so, then Let’s Build a Zoo delivers. The bad news is, it’s going to make you wait which, given that animal splicing is a significant selling point, is a bit of a misstep. You can’t make that rhino/goose hybrid until you’ve uncovered every single animal variant, typically ten or so for each animal. At first we were trying to get established and then it became about being efficient. Some ten hours in, we wanted the PSC Zoo to be symmetrical. But then we wanted the enclosures to be bigger and grouped by type (you’ve got grass, concrete, desert, tropical, ice and so on for different types of animal) and so the entire layout started to change. We invested heavily in transport, upping our visitor numbers but also our CO2 usage. So then it was about researching bigger and better buses. And so on. The game lets you edit, move and redraw enclosures easily, so toying around with your layout becomes a constant thing. It's not all cheerful panda-ing though, as Let's Build A Zoo can get pretty dark if you let it. Sure, you can build a loving environment for your animals, guests and staff... but with a fully-fledged morality system, you have the choice to go down an evil path, work your staff to the bone, and essentially turn your zoo into a meat factory. Oh deer, oh deer.

To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent. See PlayStation.com/bc for more details. On jumping into the game you are asked to choose your avatar from a selection shown on the screen. Secondly, you are asked to name your first Zoo. If you are indecisive like me this might take more than it should. You are then taken on a tutorial for this park management similar. This shows you everything from local menus (in-game) and how to build, to looking after your animals and guests. I am not going to lie, it took me a while to get to grips with everything in my first zoo. For instance, the first time playing, I totally forgot to feed my animals (not good right?). Choose Your Mascot! Anyone with even a small amount of ADD might find this to be a struggle. I found it to be too much to handle and avoid this game like the plague now.

You start as the manager of a brand-new zoo, and after a few tutorial screens you’re left with a blank canvas of land and the freedom to mould it any way you want. You start with two main ways to gain new animals: rescuing them from an independent shelter, or trading with other zoos across the globe. Eventually attendees come to see these animals, and your goal is to keep everybody happy and make tons of money along the way. Don’t let Let’s Build A Zoo's appearance fool you. It has the gorgeous pixel art and presentation of a classic tycoon game, as well as all the simulation aspects you’d ever want. But buried under that business management exterior is a game equally interested in exploring moral choices, and one that leaves me thankful it pauses before I have to make a decision. It's time to build a zoo! Let out your wild side, and create your own animal empire with this cute, expansive management sim. Import and breed rare creatures, hire the right staff, keep your visitors happy, and deal with plenty of weird and wonderful events. Then try your hand at DNA Splicing, and stitch together over 300,000 different types of animal, ranging from the majestic Giraffephant to the peaceful PandOwl! I was unsure what Let’s Build A Zoo would bring to the table. I know I had seen it in various places and seen others talking about it. But I didn’t know if it was the game for me. However, I really enjoyed my time in the game. There are obviously tasks and targets to hit, however unlike the usual sim titles. It didn’t feel stressful trying to hit these targets. Don’t get me wrong as your zoo grows you sometimes have to look twice to figure out what to do next. However, there were no frustrations to be had. It is a game that could be enjoyed by anyone and I highly recommend it if you need a little you time away from an FPS. I award Let’s Build A Zoo a Thumb Culture Gold Award! Let's Build A Zoo is available for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch and PC ( Steam / Epic Games Store).

Control everything that happens in your park, from what your animals eat to what eats your animals...

The audio in-game is extremely joyful. Tightly knitted together with all of the sound FX from the Zoo you have just created, it really creates an environment you can just relax and game in. Obviously to relax you need to make sure you keep to your schedule! Longevity
