About this deal

When he judged the casks to be ready, the rum was replaced with the 14 year old spirit and the wood was put to work adding the final touches. Master distiller David C. Stewart has developed an intriguing blend of West Indian rums to be stored in American Oak casks prior to being filled with Balvenie. The end result is nothing short of sublime, offering whisky drinkers an exotic experience like no other! Rich with sweet notes of ripe mango, pineapple and guava, toffee, Christmas Cake and plump rum soaked raisins. Hints of floral notes and malt intermingling with oak come to mind. Hints of fudge and soft spices. Finish: Sugar cane subsides to a creamy vanilla. It trails off with only a medium length finish, but the end of each sip is quite satisfying, especially after a meal or with a cigar. (Generally, I like my cigar scotches to have a hint of coffee to them, but this one does not and it works great with a stogie.)

Finish2: Unfortunately I preferred it before, because that metallic note (rum?) hangs on, with some green lime. Still fairly light, but I think less balanced. (The earlier cocoa-exhale is now more like wheat bread.) He built Balvenie 1892. It shares its water source, the Robbie Dhu springs, with Glenfiddich. It has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the most prestigious distilleries in the world. William Grant and Sons also own Glenfiddich and Kininvie Distillery. To enhance these flavours even further, try adding a dollop of rich vanilla ice cream on top – this decadent combination is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth! Vanilla Ice Cream That being said, my first love will always win out and that’s Balvenie Doublewood 12-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky. A full-bodied beverage with layers of honeyed sweetness, spice, vanilla, and oranges — all balanced perfectly to create a truly flavourful and complex experience. The combination of Balvenie Doublewood’s smooth malt flavour and hints of fruitiness is perfectly complemented by the tartness from the lemon and herbaceous notes provided by the mint. It also has balance; neither too sweet nor too tart. Balvenie 14 year old Caribbean Cask gave me mixed emotions with it's rum-like dryness and sweetness. It was like a roller coaster ride of good and not that good aromas and taste. Few days before tasting Balvenie's 14 year old Caribbean Cask, I had tried a sample of Ron Matusalem 15 year old Gran Reserva rum. The tastes of these two were very similar so I have to say that the rum influence is obvious in the Caribbean Cask. The Balvenie Doublewood 12 was my introduction to the world of whisky – so it will always hold a special place in my heart. Plus, its versatility makes it an excellent choice for almost any occasion or celebration — ranging from casual drinking nights with friends to intimate dinner parties. They age the whisky for 14 years in traditional oak casks and then finish it off in casks that used to contain Caribbean rum. I do like a good rum from time to time so this was quite appealing to me and I was expecting some extra sweetness and fruity notes.

Finish: Sugarcane again, only mildly sweet, with ginger and lime zest. Short and simple, but pleasant and with no disturbances. A surprising effect is that after a minute, you feel you are exhaling cocoa powder through your nose. Chewy with tropical fruits, passion fruit and mango come to mind in particular, with a little peach. Sugar cane, molasses then some citrus in a subtle way and it’s also laced with golden honey. Balance: very nice overall balance. Rum sweetness goes well to balance Balvenie citrus. Score: 22/25 Finish: moderate length of finish, which stays very mellow. Water added muddles the flavours together. Score: 22/25 The Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask is bottled at 43%. A fairly unique whisky, it has spent atleast some time maturing in ex rum casks. How long is anyone’s guess, it isn’t mentioned on the bottle. This used to be a bit of a bargain in the UK, now not so much.Discover an exceptional single malt whisky that delivers the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie expertly infused with notes of creamy toffee, ripe fruit and ending in a warm, lingering finish. The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old is a fantastic addition to your collection or a wonderful gift for any whisky enthusiast, available in a 70cl bottle ready for gifting. People talk about how volatile rum finishes can be. Personally I’m a huge fan, although I’ve only ever tried a handful of rum-finished whiskies. So far I’ve liked them all, to varying degrees. Tonight we’ve got Balvenie’s Caribbean Cask, a 14 year old that’s been finished in rum barrels (obviously). Sounds good to me. Or if you are looking for something a bit more savoury try a creamy brie? Or maybe even a Camembert? Creamy Brie

This is an apparently relatively new addition to this distillery's standard range (I think since around 2010). It is a blend of 12 year old malts matured separately in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso casks, which are finished together for a further two years in ex-Carribean rum casks (the rum in the casks is itself a combination of select West Indian rums blended by Malt Master David Stewart). I admit, I am completely enamoured with the Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14-year-old single malt whisky. It has a rich, tropical flavour profile that is highlighted by the rum casks in which it is finished. Its notes of vanilla, coconut, and dried fruit make it a delight for any whisky enthusiast looking to experience something truly unique. Distilled from 100% malted barley, The Balvenie then ages this Scotch for 14 years in ex-Bourbon barrels. From there, it is dumped into Caribbean rum casks where it rests for an unpublished amount of time. The Balvenie simply calls it “extra matured.” Evenly spread the shredded coconut on a rimmed baking sheet and toast in the oven until golden brown, stirring halfway through, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Like the movie AFTER THE SUNSET

Today I look at a side-by-side comparison of two releases from the Balvenie Distillery. The Balvenie Caribbean Cask vs Doublewood whisky. Comparing different distilleries side by side is fun, but I find that the most interesting comparisons are the ones between other releases from the same distillery.
