About this deal

Audio Pro isn’t a brand for grand statements. There’s a sense of modesty to their approach that’s less eye-catching than other brands. So you may well be thinking the Audio Pro BT5 could fill a gap and look rather nice on a shelf somewhere. It’s simple, stylish and effective – maybe there was room for one more Bluetooth speaker after all.

On the side is a flap that conceals an aux 3.5mm input and a USB-C input (for charging). This little compartment contributes to the speaker’s IPX4 rating, which is not strong as I’d have expected for a portable speaker. It indicates that the P5 is fine against splashes of water but hasn’t been tested against dust and small particles (like sand). Both the Emberton II and JBL Charge 5 offer far sturdier resistance in that context. Features If you can live with your music coming out at 50% volume which should not be an issue for most you then get a fantastic overall sound profile and the fact that regardless of the speaker laying down or standing on its feet the sound stays the same this makes a great effort from Audio Pro. If the Audio Pro P5’s list of features was a book, it would be shorter than a novella. The features are, as you’re about to find out, a short story. Warm and rich are two words to describe the direction Audio Pro has taken with the P5. At its best, the P5 offers a fun, lively sound that puts you in the mood for heading outdoors, or indeed, enjoying its sound when you’re outside. Connection is via Bluetooth 5.0 and two P5’s can be paired to play in stereo. Battery life is quoted as 4 hours at full volume, however running at half volume will extend that to 14 hours.

All that’s great about Audio Pro is now available in a stylish, portable Bluetooth speaker, with the Audio Pro P5. On a tight budget? The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 is the portable speaker you should buy in that case. It’s tiny, waterproof and has surprisingly good sound - it’s not perfect though, you won’t get anywhere near the same level of audio quality as you get here. It is much cheaper though so you win some, you lose some. In our testing, we were impressed by the sound quality but we really enjoyed the Outdoor Boost because it makes the audio a bit less bassy and a little more shrill. It doesn't sound better than the normal mode, clearly, but it 'cuts through' better and is a handy addition. In an emergency, you can also still charge your phone from the Wonderboom 2, as long as you have the right Micro-USB cable which I doubt many people will. There’s no support for the Audio Pro app, but the P5 does support stereo pairing with another P5 speaker with its TWS (True Wireless Stereo) feature. A Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection is provided (no mention of codecs) and while the connection has been consistent, you won’t want to travel too far (say more than 10m) as the connection doesn’t extend as far as the Charge 5. With award-winning speakers across their range, Audio Pro are one of the most highly respected brands in the business. The Scandinavian company puts strong emphasis on sound quality, with their advanced speaker tech producing detailed and vibrant sound. Equally strong on style, their timeless speakers never fail to hit the mark. With the P5, you get all the usual Audio Pro qualities, plus weatherproof portability.

Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 28th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.)You can read more about it in the full Audio Pro P5 review . Are Bluetooth and wireless the same thing? I found if you’re using this in the garden at 50% volume you will have no issues with battery life but venture to somewhere like a beach where you might want extra volume then that battery life did become a slight concern but even at 4 hrs, it should offer you all the music you need while entertaining or going out. Now you will get a slight warning with the flashing red light but a more detailed battery indicator would have been helpful. Verdict Battery life is quoted at 14 hours, which is respectable enough but at this price point it’s towards the lower end of the scale. The likes of the Wonderboom 3, EarFun Uboom L and Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 all encroach on the P5’s battery levels at less expense. The Charge 5 adds five more hours on top, while the Emberton II more than doubles it. Listening for an extended period of time, and to a range of sources, it’s clear that while the Audio Pro BT5 isn’t perfect, it is a solid speaker for the size and money. Put this one in the ‘does what it says on the tin’ category. Verdict

Played at half volume, the P5’s battery life stretches to 14 hours – easily enough for a day’s entertainment – indoors or out. No. All Bluetooth speakers are wireless speakers but not all wireless speakers use Bluetooth as their main audio source, although most include it. This is going to become more of an issue as wireless speaker technology evolves: for all its benefits Bluetooth does have some limits when it comes to the very highest quality digital music. We've got a separate guide to the best wireless speakers, and that focuses more on home speakers with Wi-Fi. The P5 as you might expect really sounds very good, the bass and treble sound fantastic, the bass adds detail and does not get overridden considering the size of the speaker. When listening to something like Kate Nash Foundations the vocals sound beautifully pure without any harshness you might see from other speakers. The recommended volume is 50% volume but the higher you go past 50% volume it does impact the battery life this is mainly due to the high fidelity of the speaker. If you want a speaker with energetic, accurate and punchy sound then the Audio Pro P5 does not disappoint. You can hear every detail across the lows, mids and highs, something that portable speakers aren’t always able to get across, especially with the amount of volume you get here. It goes really loud! That’s all thanks to a 1-inch tweeter, 3.2-inch long-throw woofer and 35W amplifier. Rated to IPX4 level, the P5 is tough enough to take rain and water splashes in its stride. This makes it ideal for use by the pool, kitchen, bathroom or just outside during a typical British summer downpour! Durable construction and rounded edges make it bag-friendly on the move, too.

The Audio Pro P5 speaker is simplistic in design but the focus here is the audio quality and this is where Audio Pro excels. The controls on the speaker I did find a little unresponsive you really need to press them for an action which is a little annoying.

It feels robust, like a speaker that could survive some drops and remain unperturbed by scratches and scuff marks. At 729g the P5 is not insubstantial in terms of weight – Audio Pro says you could put this in your travel luggage for holidays and at 22 x 9.7 x 5.3cm (HWD) that is true, but it’s not any smaller than the competition. The Marshall Emberton II, for example, is more compact. As mentioned above, you get the choice of using Bluetooth 5 or a 3.5mm audio cable to connect your devices to this speaker. The Bluetooth 5 works very well, the audio never dropped out and my phone stayed connected even when I wandered off into the next room. With its dedicated amp and 3.2 inch custom woofer, the P5 isn’t shy about the bass. The impressive frequency response is a match for much larger speakers and gives the P5 a real presence that’s often missing from portable speakers. If you’re fed up of tinny-sounding small speakers, then prepare to be in for a pleasant surprise. The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 3 is undoubtedly the best cheap Bluetooth speaker on this list, combining good sound with an ultraportable design and effective 360-degree audio. It's just a straight-up Bluetooth speaker but you can pair two of them together either in stereo or dual mono.Clearly meant to be taken to wherever the party is, it's also fully waterproof – in fact, it even floats. Being IP57 rated, it's also well protected against grit, saltwater, dust and beach-side sand, so long as you keep the USB charger cover in place.
