About this deal

Kendhammer, 47, of West Salem, faces a first degree intentional homicide charge after an investigation showed he may be lying about how his wife, Barbara, died. He originally told police a metal pipe went through the windshield of his car and hit his wife in September of 2016.

GPS information retrieved from Google show the couple’s cellphones at a neighbor’s house from 7:30 to 7:50 a.m., according to a La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department report. The neighbor, who lives in Seattle, said Kendhammer cared for the 80-acre property that he planned to buy. However, lab results showed that Todd’s DNA was under Barbara’s fingernails. There was enough forensic evidence to classify her death as a homicide. Investigators now believed that Barbara had been beaten multiple times and that she wasn’t sitting in the car when the pipe came through the windshield. Todd, then 47, stood trial in December 2017 for killing his wife. He took the stand and claimed that he was too distraught during the interview with the police, explaining the contrasting stories that were mentioned. The prosecution admitted they couldn’t zero in on a motive; the couple was well off, and there were no signs of an affair or domestic abuse. Jessica and Jordan felt that the prosecution failed to explain how their father killed Barbara and staged the crime scene. Nevertheless, Todd was found guilty of first-degreeintentional homicide and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years. Prison records indicate that he remains incarcerated at Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin. With so much at stake, the defense decided to gamble by putting Todd Kendhammer himself on the stand. On Friday, DNA analyst Kevin Scott testified that Barbara Kendhammer’s DNA was on both sides of the pipe that supposedly crashed through the windshield and that Todd Kendhammer’s DNA was all over the pipe. This evidence is not a surprise, however, because Todd Kendhammer told police that he helped his wife out of the car, then removed the pipe from the windshield while retrieving his phone to call 911.

They never really said how he killed her or what he did to stage everything," says Jessica. Her brother added, "If he wanted to kill Ma, why the hell would he go through all the work and trouble to find a pipe, drive all the way out to the middle of a busy road—." "He has like 28 guns in the basement," Jessica interrupted. "More than that," said Jordan. Those) circumstances would have lead Mr. Kendhammer to try to fill in the likely gaps in his initial memory,” Loftus explained. “When you’re trying to fill in gaps in your memory, you often do so based on inferences or suggestions from elsewhere that result in information being added that is not necessarily accurate.” But his most damaging testimony may have been when he changed his story yet again. He told the jury about a third person he was supposedly going to see on the day of the incident: Jared Loging. INVESTIGATOR: Yeah, that's fine. As investigators began to question Todd Kendhammer, he appeared confused and forgetful of details. But now Dr. Shaku Teas, who has performed some 6,000 autopsies, would examine Barbara Kendhammer's medical records and autopsy photos.
