About this deal

The bottom subdial is for showing the alarm (this watch actually has one!). It can also be used to set for a different time zone which is truly useful during traveling. Although this watch is not the first one to use this concept, Seiko is the company that was able to execute it well on this wristwatch. As mentioned, the watch has three subdials, two of which are used as the chronograph and one that works as an alarm (or an additional time zone). Pushing the bottom pusher again will make the seconds hand to catch up to the time. I doubt most of SNA411’s owners will use this in their daily life but one thing for sure the sweeping motion of the seconds hand catching up to the time is very beautiful.

Even though this is a dedicated pilot watch, Seiko has actually implemented 200 meters of water resistance. Another point for durability and functionality. You’d not expect such an implementation, but it’s a welcomed modification. It’s always good to have some sort of water resistance with your watch, just in case you forget to take it off before going for a bath or a dive. Hi Brian! Happy to hear you got one for yourself. It’s essentially ruined most other chronographs for me. If you are looking for a watch that can do more than just tell the time, then the Seiko Flightmaster SNA411 is the watch for you. It is the perfect watch for pilots and engineers, it can also be worn by those who want a watch that is loaded with features and a watch that looks great in whatever style you wear, may it be sporty or classy. It is a budget-friendly watch that will not require you to spend more than you plan to.

We all know and adore the Omega Speedmaster — the first watch on the Moon, official watch for NASA astronauts. The Breitling Navitimer has its own prestigious history and diehard fans as well. It is the embodiment of the quirky yet beloved slide rule bezel. These two watches are pinnacles of aviation horology. However, they aren’t the best. Oh no, if anything, they are only thematic stepping stones to the true king of flight watches: the Seiko Flightmaster. It is the best of Speedmaster and Navitimer, with a few quirks and special features of its own. and not just a pissing contest of which watch flew further, the Flightmaster is the more capable watch.

As you might expect, it comes with the usual trimmings, including steel construction and sapphire crystal. If you like the feeling of a very heavy watch, at 150 grams, this certainly gives the impression of quality (by association to density). One thing that really astound me is the water resistance of the watch – it is 200 m water resistant! It’s not even a diver watch and yet it has a very high water resistance. There’s also a rather impressive Bidirectional coin edged bezel with slide rule. Slide rules can look complicated but you can learn to use them quite easily. If you want to learn about this then it was summed up quite well here.

Keep in mind these calculations are only approximate and not as accurate as any calculator. It is intended only to ease the calculation process and not for really exact values. For that a calculator is better as it is more accurate. What is an aviation watch without a chronograph? An incomplete aviation watch. This Seiko FlightMaster watch has a chronograph to complement its duty as a fully functional tool and utility watch for a pilot.

It’s definitely worth having in mind the next time you’re going shopping for watches. This would make a great, affordable addition to any collection. The dial on this wristwatch is intense. The combination of reflective and raised surfaces, a moving cluster of the watch’s sub-dials and the slightly-domed crystal make the dial great and interesting to look at. The wristwatch is also shinier and more sparkly than its pictures would suggest, making it the best choice for formal and for business wear. The yellow markings ties with the bright yellow chronograph of the watch, giving it a sporty yet elegant touch that supports its water-resistance of about 200M. Its internal bezel is a bit sloped, so it enhances the overall readability and it lends a bit more interest in its vision. While this is really cool, it’s far from affordable for the average Joe like me. As such, I’ve been on the lookout for some Breitling Navitimer alternatives, which offer that same type of look for far less money. If you’re considering saving up for the real thing, one of these options could more than fill the void until that day occurs. It has both raised and recessed details, matte, polished, and brushed. The watch is equipped with Seiko’s proprietary Hardlex crystal which is slightly domed. It is not a sapphire crystal, which you wouldn’t expect for a watch in this price range, however, it has proven to be extremely durable and scratch-resistant. The Hardlex crystal is made in a way so that it doesn’t shatter as sapphire crystals do. This is especially important in a pilot’s watch, as the risk of shattering the crystal while flying can be a deadly safety hazard.

This brand doesn’t have the heritage or recognition of most other Swiss-made brands, so won’t retain its value the same way that rivals might.A slide rule is an important tool for aviation because it allows for rapid calculations “off the cuff”. Fuel efficiency, unit conversions, and more are important to know when trying to determine, say, how far you can go with what you’ve got in the tank, especially when a mile up in the sky. Oh, and miles to kilometers? The slide rule does that easily. Pilot’s watches for the people Aviation watches recreate this slide rule to assist pilots make complicated calculations using their watches. I think it’s much more easier to use compared having to punch in a calculator when flying thousands of feet above ground right =p.
