About this deal

Let's face it if you want to turn over a load of reels then target your market and price accordingly , surprised Danny didn't,t get in on the action the paddle shape could work its that grippy stuff on it but its enough to make me think maybe i would not buy them

Penn Affinity 7000 Limited Edition Reel A company renowned in the game fishing world for producing outstanding reels that can withstand the test of time, this is Penn’s first foray into the carp fishing arena. Penn has used all its game fishing experience to design this big pit distance casting machine. This Limited Edition Affinity 7000 model features a long tapered spool with a slow oscillation movement. This not only provides perfect line lay every time, but also enables the reel to achieve staggering distance casts with incredible accuracy. Sorry it doesn't show it folding on the vids or mention it on the brief list of features, but it's got lots of carbon fibre lol, if your on fb take a look. For something a bit more modern I use 5500 Ultegra XTB ci14 but not very often on these rods I find them very light but a bit bulky...perfect for my 12ft 2.25's though

Mmmmm just had a play and the handle is very pleasing to use and the feel is good , might wear dark glasses when retreiving Just thought i'd post these pics up for people that may have been curious to know what the insides are like. I was giving my reels a good going over and decided i would strip them to see what the inside quality is like, and i must say that although they do quite simple, everything looks and feels spot on. No cheap nastiness it seems. I asked the same question when I got the mk2s for a mate from the shop I go.The rep would not go into too much detail about it

Gt baitrunners dont get me started I only managed to pass one on out of four as the others all failed big time bent spindles handles stripping etc Narrow, long spools will produce smaller coils that need less controlling that therefore leads to less friction. I wont rant about guide size or numbers in this post Having used both I completely agree with this. Now that Shimano prices have fallen 30 - 40% from their peak the Penns (and other similar models from Mitchell. ESP etc.) look less appealing than they used to. The issue with a long spool is the spindle. If the spool is right at its maximum reach, the spindle is very prone to bending. They seem to be just what everybody wants- and a sensible price, as your not just paying for "The Company name", which seem to have been the case for many, many years. Not seen tourney 6000s in the flesh, but id be surprised if they were as big as the 8000 penn. They are massive. The 7000 is more a standard sized big pit Wether pure fishing, or whoever distributes them, will be able to help with spare parts in the future is debatable; especially as the European carp market must be minuscule in comparison to the USA and Oceania market they also flood with new models all the time. Another thing to try is to start loading line while the spool is in its lowest position, this will ensure line goes on at the front first. I didn't have any issues when i bought my 8000lc affinity's, these was spooled up with no washers under the spool but i started loading with the line going on at the bottom first, so spool fully forward. This gave me a perfectly even line lay even though the spools are forward taper Which is why I'm asking the question now Noj. From what I can see and have heard, Shimano have lowered their prices, have outsourced their manufacturing and the quality of their reels has suffered, especially in the lower end of the market. Daiwa possibly the same in their lower end reels.

Had mine a week or so now, 4 trips fishing. They are the best reels for the money I've had, not too big, but big enough. Spool good for 100 yard casting, lighter than I thought, terrific drag, and simple QD operation. I've had some of the expensive Shimanos too heavy, Daiwa too expensive, look at the crazy prices for the old kit Daiwa reels just to look a proper carper. No these are great reels and I'd guess long lasting. I accept the penn is a little more refined but that could be classed as over engineering in an item that essentially retrieves line from the water.I never mentioned wobble or play I said shake in the reel stem which they all have ie flexibility , with the reel attached to the rod you can twist the whole assy through the stem , this means it feels bloody terrible if your cranking in big leads or clumps of weed A company renowned in the game fishing world for producing outstanding reels that can withstand the test of time, this is Penn’s first foray into the carp fishing arena. Penn has used all its game fishing experience to design this big pit distance casting machine. I'd also like to know if you can get folding handles for these reels from anywer. That's somethin is be very interested in Are people still loving these, any complaints. Im selling my shims and in the market for some 100quid big pits Mine have been used and abused week in week out for years and are still perfect, done zero maintenance on them.

The drive gear looks to be made from titanium, the pinion gear made from brass, didn't go as far as taking out the oscillation gear, but it seems ok from what i could see. Worm shaft etc seems to be solid, bearings good quality. All in all they seem to be made to quite a high standard and hopefully longevity won't be an issue as this was the main thing on people's mind. just read that reply ,, i,ve just messaged them asking the length of 'hexagonal' shaft ,,, they have 2 sizes listed too 16 x 5 cm and 14 x 4.5cm

i am sure you notice the weight difference (20% lighter?) but they are nowhere near close to half the weight mate. LC are not 1.28kg
