About this deal

No camera that goes underwater has this combination of reasonably bright lens and closeup capability (especially at that price point). I can point this compact into crevices where lagers cameras in housing won't fit, especially concerning external flash. In still photography, it can deliver great image quality through a variety of camera modes. The lens is digital and the focal distance and field of view can be altered through a menu function on the touch screen. The four modes are Narrow, Wide, Linear and SuperView.

Almost identical to the Fujifilm XP130 before it, Fujifilm’s latest tough camera retains many of its specs: there’s the same 16.4MP sensor, the same 5x optical zoom and the same 3-inch touchscreen. This little camera has a range of shooting modes including a number of different macro modes and underwater modes. These modes allow for underwater microscope and white balance management. The Olympus team was creating the world's first weatherproof camera, a task that would require the use of new technologies. Although we had obtained extensive know-how from watch manufacturers and from our own endoscope division, not all of this knowledge was immediately applicable to cameras. On a camera there are many points that need to be waterproofed, including the area around the lens barrel, the film and battery compartments, and the controls. The OM System OM-5 was the first camera not to bear the Olympus logo, but it bleeds the technological legacy of the brand. Technically it's a successor to the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III, but truthfully it has more in common with the flagship OM System OM-1– except where the OM-1 is built for advanced photographers, the OM-5 is built for adventurers. Since 2021, Olympus cameras have been sold under the OM System name. The Olympus TG-6 was our favorite waterproof compact camera - and this has now been reborn as the OM System TG-7. It is pretty much identical - but that is a good thing in our book, and ensures this newer version remains at the top of our recommendations for a rugged camera. Features we love include the built-in microscope setting that allows you to take amazing close-ups - and a Field Sensor System that records GPS coordinates and ambient temperature with your shots.

The Olympus TG-6 comes with a host of shooting options from 16 different scene modes to an aperture priority setting. The ISO ranges from ISO 100 to 12800, and the bright F2 lens enables faster shutter speeds for capturing moving subjects, meaning it should be able to cope underwater pretty well. The camera is also capable of recording 4K movies for those interested in this feature. Tough cameras, Oly and other brands, show mushy details that look really bad even without enlarging, specially in foliage and other fine structures. The rear of the body features a bright 3″ 920K Dot LCD. As there is no viewfinder, all of your shots will be composed through this screen. Even in the murkiest of conditions this screen will illuminate enough for you to see what you are shooting. Olympus raised a few eyebrows (mine included) when it launched the E-M1X, a big new professional camera aimed squarely at the sports and wildlife market, but with what looked like very similar specs to the existing Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II. A DSLR-sized Olympus camera? Isn't the whole point of Olympus cameras that they're the most compact on the market? Image quality may not be as high as that of more conventional cameras, especially in low light conditions.

At the end of his review Jeff Kellers conclusion is "Not good for those who want smartphone IQ or better...", completely agree.

The OM-1 was a huge hit with reviewers and consumers alike, so the OM System era got off to a good start –but the OM-5 wasn't quite so warmly welcomed. Whether it's the OM-10 or PEN-F II7, whatever comes next will be crucial in cementing public perception of the brand. While I agree with those asking for a larger sensor TG-X camera (myself included), it still does some things best that other cameras can't do. I agree its a niche use but: Thanks to features such as RAW shooting and its f/2 lens, you can capture high-quality images of your adventures. Should you want to step it up a notch, there is a full range of Olympus accessories that will expand your shooting capabilities. After the success of the ‘Olympus’ OM-1, the OM SYSTEM OM-5 represented the difficult second album. The revitalised brand had shown promise under its new hands, but consistency would be the key to seeing if there was a long-term future. Fears proved unfounded – the OM System OM-5 has turned out to be a delight and triumph. As a replacement for the E-M5 series, it represents the middle of the range, and so delivers a lightweight build with high-speed shooting, and comes at a significantly lower price than the OM-1.Additional functionality is obtained by pairing the camera with a dedicated GoPro app. There are also tons of useful accessories available for it. Pro Capture mode saves photos before and after the shutter release is pressed, to help you capture the right moment OM Digital torture tests its cameras, and the OM-1 is the only interchangeable lens camera on the market with an IP53 rating. IP stands for “ingress protection,” and an IP53 rating means that the OM-1 can operate with water falling onto it as a spray at an angle of up to 60 degrees. No, you can’t take it underwater, but that’s about the only place that the OM-1 can’t handle. Micro Four Thirds cameras are able to offer a physically smaller camera body, as well as smaller lenses to match. This can make the system much more portable and well-suited to travel and street photography. Furthermore, the smaller sensor size of Micro Four Thirds incurs a 2x crop factor, effectively doubling the focal length of a lens. Mounted on an Olympus camera, a 50mm lens behaves like a 100mm lens, giving you telephoto reach from a smaller and cheaper lens compared to full-frame. This waterproof camera features a 5x optical zoom and 10x Dynamic Fine Zoom that provides excellent reach and the ability to capture distant subjects. This is supported by a vibration reduction system to ensure you capture bright still images even from a significant distance.

For the elimination of the weld line (a seam of resin), Olympus development and production engineers tried everything they could think of to find a solution, including changing the molding conditions, using resins with different flow properties, and changing the position of the gate *2. Following the introduction of plastic external surfaces on the AF-1, the technology was further improved and used on many other products. First off, waterproof cameras and housings are different things, and we’ve covered both in this guide. The difference is simple; waterproof cameras are self-contained shooters in their own right, while waterproof housings are protective cases that you put a regular camera inside. A waterproof camera tends to be an inexpensive option, while housings are designed generally for professionals, and can frequently command four-figure price tags (though not always, as we’ll see). This compact camera has a small waterproof body that is able to shoot in RAW and JPEG formats, which is great for post-processing options. Also beneficial is the large Sony one inch 20-MP sensor that will capture all the light, colour and details of your image. The DC2000 inner camera and outer case both have controls that are easy to access and use and are fit for either land or sea photography. Dials and buttons are well positioned and provide a somewhat familiar layout.
