About this deal

That said, the most important thing is that you always need to apply it a few days before the grass seed. That’s because it will prevent new seedlings from being able to germinate well. Iron sulphate is often used as from January to December for various gardening uses. It can be applied in a small doses that gives the grass a lovely lush green colour. If you have ever used Lawn Sand you may have experienced severe lawn damage as well. Unless kept dry, applied in the right conditions, evenly and at the correct dosage you can defoliate your lawn in days! I rarely use Lawn Sand because of this so unless you have the experience and confidence I suggest you give Lawn Sand a miss. Ferrous or Iron Sulphate as Fertiliser A scarifier should have a depth setting or adjuster. A bit like a lawnmower, you can choose how deeply you scarify. For a seasonal light scarify, then a higher setting is preferable. Zinc and molybdenum will help the grass absorb a balanced ratio of iron. They will also combat the micronutrient imbalances in your lawn. Improve lawn drainage

Take care when mixing as any spillage will stain concrete paths and patios a rusty brown colour, that can be difficult to remove For turf hardening - aids disease and cold resistance and worm cast suppression apply: at 2+ grams per square metre in solution – up to 3 applications can be made with 1 to 2 being common

Just our usual reminder to read all the safety precautions on the instructions and to follow them. You’re dealing with chemicals here and, even if they’re biodegradable, it’s better to wear gloves and a mask when mixing them up and applying them. And keep people, especially kids and pets, off the sprayed areas until the safety precautions tell you it’s safe to let them loose on the lawn again. Once the soil dries up, apply a lawn fertiliser to ensure that the soil gets the right balance of micronutrients. Otherwise, there may be a nutrient deficiency, hampering the growth of the grass. Add bicarbonates to the soil Bought in different forms such as a soluble powder, granules mixed with sand, or granules mixed with fertiliser (more on this below)

Grass usually doesn’t need a large amount of iron. In fact, it’s usually only beneficial to apply extra iron if you have a soil test indicating iron deficiency. After you have applied by this sprayer method it is advised that you apply a final covering of just water to ensure that it is well watered into the soil. You can also apply a covering of water before and after to make it a safer and more efficient application. Apply iron sulphate cautiously and it can work wonders for your lawn. It will give your lawn a rich green hue, keep pests and mosses at bay and boost your lawn’s health. The application of Grass Green is incredibly simple. Simply measure out the required amount of granules (measurements below) and sprinkle them evenly across the whole surface area of your lawn. If rain is forecast, leave nature to water them down into the soil for you. If no rain is forecast, use a hose or watering can to water them down thoroughly. You can apply it by hand or in a garden spreader. How Much Lawn Fertiliser Should I Use?You can mow the scarified lawn about 2-3 weeks after scarification. Keep the setting high to help encourage new growth. The iron sulphate comes in fine granular form, and I’ve always applied it via a spreader for accuracy, but I’ve seen others do so with a gloved hand. For the best results, make sure you evenly apply the iron sulphate solution across your whole lawn. To help with this, we recommend dividing large gardens up into smaller square patches to help you precisely measure the amounts needed. How Much Iron Sulphate Should I Mix? It can be bought in different forms. The main ones are soluble powder, a granular form mixed with sand or a granular form mixed with fertiliser. For using iron sulphate with a watering can it is simple mathematics and easy to mix. Use 2 grams per square metre for grass greening applied with one litre of water. So for 20 square metres you will need 40 grams of sulphate in 20 litres of water. Usually this will be a standard 9 litre watering can, so you will need 9 litres of lukewarm water and 18 grams of sulphate for greening grass. Then apply this over 9 square metres, then repeat over the next 9 square metres with identical mix of 9 litres water and 18 grams of sulphate. Then mix another 4 grams sulphate in 2 litres of water to finish off the last 2 metre area.

This depends on how large your garden is and on what your aim is. If you just want greener, healthier grass, this only requires a weaker mix than if you want to harden the turf of a sports pitch. You can use a spreader but I wouldn’t recommend it as it’s difficult to do accurately as it’s so fine. If using a sprayer which I recommend, especially on a larger lawn, you need to use 5-10g per square meter, or 3-5g per square meter if you want to use it as a lawn tonic to green up your lawn once you killed the moss off. How to spray with a spayerFerromel 20 Iron Sulphate Premium Moss Killer, Lawn Conditioner & Lawn Feed is a great product. Its versatility is that you can use it to green your lawn or to kill moss, and it can be applied dry or mixed with water and applied using a good garden sprayer or watering can.
