Heiniger introduced their new Heiniger Opal trimmer in July 2020 - and they've struggled to keep up with the huge demand (they've sold out 3 times!). It has been incredibly popular with pro groomers and clippers, who up until now have been using the Heiniger Saphir.The Opal is an improvement on the Heiniger Saphir, mainly due to its Li-ion battery and brand new circuitry which allows it to last longer and charge faster, as well as operate at higher speeds. It’s also quieter than the Saphir (and other trimmers on the market) making it great for nervous animals. Two features of the “Saphir – the low noise level plus relative none existence of vibration will be especially appealing to the cat owner. The “Saphir” is delightfully lightweight – a mere 0.44kg – even with battery attached, nice and compact – under 205mm/8-inches (including a narrow blade attached) comfortable to hold, well balanced and easy to operate whether in a male or female hand. The clipper body casing design is moulded to give a slimmer and improved grip just were you hold it! The powerful 35 watt motor has soft motor note that is instantly associated with high quality engineering of the Germanic type. Free of vibration its single speed motor provides a powerful 2650 double cutting strokes per minute. In field trials this clipper has proved to be exceptionally powerful for its type and is built to a high specification

One critical observation – the rear mounted switch is not in our favourite position for an emergency stop situation! From a practical position we prefer the on/off switch to instantly accessible. According to Heiniger both batteries for the Heiniger “Saphir” and the “Saphir Smart” are identical and can be interchanged.

The Heiniger Saphir clipper is a VERY quiet, lightweight clipper which has minimal vibration and is exceptionally smooth running. On the subject of blades, Heiniger do not make A5 type detachable blades and whilst not confirmed we suspect due to the close collaboration between Heiniger and Aesculap they are in fact Aesculap made blades.
