About this deal

Keeping a golf notebook during these practice rounds and actual competitive rounds play a major role in ensuring the golfer is giving themselves the best chance to handle all of the variables that a golfer is faced with during a course of a round of golf. I have been caught by surprise with bunkers in the middle of fairways or thinking I have more distance to a water hazard than is really there. The best professional and amateur golfers take accountability of their game by analyzing situations and log every shot, game-plan, and execution. The more hilly a course is the more you need to make special note of where you aimed. One of my courses I played a ton as a kid had at least 6 blind tee shots. Yardage books are a handbook used by golfers when playing a round. These books contain information about distances, hazards, and green complexes for every hole on the golf course. Typically, yardage book offer a little bit more information than the averagescorecard. Golfers use yardage books to develop a strategy for playing each hole, and they use the distances and hazards mapped in the yardage book to determine the optimal ball placement based on their level of skill.

Not only should you note the break of putts, but also where greens run out and where to avoid when hitting those approach shots. Most golf holes have an element of risk and rewards on the tee shot and the approach shot into the green. Make note of the best areas to miss and utilize your shot shape to your advantage. One last item you can have in your notebook is the distance that you hit each iron and club in your bag. I have been fortunate enough to build a golf simulator in my garage and utilize a SkyTrak Launch Monitor. The green map should ideally have a grid that reflects yardage and includes fall lines to show where players can expect a shot to break. If there are standard hole placements that your courses uses, you may consider representing potential hole locations with a flag on the green map. This overspeed based training system only takes 10-15 minutes every other day and you can see results of 5-8% increase in swing speed the first time you use the system.

The hole overview should give the player an idea of the overall shape, look and feel of the fairway, boundaries, and pin location. It will tell the golfer where to put the ball from each tee box and how to plan each shot. A good yardage book will feature carry distances for several points on the fairway so players can make shots based on their driving distances. Understand course strategy and work to break through your next barrier. Here is a series on breaking through: One of the most difficult variables when playing a course for the first time is knowing exactly where hazards start and end. There is nothing worse than hitting a solid drive down the middle only to get to the ball and find a little creek that runs across the fairway. You won’t get anywhere if you dive into the deep end on your own. Simply telling a designer to go and create a yardage book won’t work either.Designing a yardage book isn’t that different than designing a map. Except that everything on this map communicates some feature or aspect of the course to the golfer. As someone always looking to improve, you start to wonder if these golf notebooks can help you and your game in the future. Golf is not only a game of hitting it solid and controlling your ball, but so much goes into the proper decisions a golfer is faced many times throughout a round. While many of us may only play courses once or twice in a lifetime, the courses you play more often can have a notebook that you create for each round.

Alternatively, if you know the layout of your holes very well, you can draw out the shape of the hole in a design software suite and put icons to illustrate course features. 7. Outline accurate carry distances and yardages You might make a couple more pars and a couple less bogeys. There is nothing worse than a great ball striking day that doesn’t match the score due to poor decisions or taking on risks that were too large.Yardage books are usually are similar in size to a 3.5 by 5.5-inch field notes pad. However, some yardage books might get as big a standard 8.5 by 11-inch note pad, especially if the course chooses to place large advertisements within. We hope that after reading this are prepared to create your very own yardage book. You can always go see the pros We know how hectic a golf course can get; with so many golfers walking through your door every day, it’s hard to take the time to sit down and design your yardage books. And let’s be honest, not everyone is born with design skills; even after hours of trial and error, the design might not turn out that great. Companies like Best Approachnow offer digital versions of the traditional yardage books. Your customers will now be able to access it directly from their phone, anywhere on the course. We want to help you create a yardage book that is useful for your customers. So, let’s dive into some best practices to consider before setting out tocreate your very own yardage book. 1. Start with a real plan

Now that your yardage book is complete, it’s time to head to the print shop. Make sure to save your design file with at least 300 DPI and with CMYB printing colors, not RGB for digital screens. You should be able to configure these settings when saving your file. Many golfers complain that they can’t hold a round together. However, what shots are causing your round to fall apart and when do they occur? Noting the hole number and direction will show you the patterns that emerge over time and what holes need a new strategy. Fundamental #1: The golfer’s ability to control the bottom of the golf swing. The best golfers will hit the ground in the intended spot, close to 100% of the time. I can take my SkyTrak to the driving range or utilize in my garage and get a great idea on the average that I hit each club. What does this mean for you? I believe in the following recipe to get better: 1 – Improve your motion in the golf swing by identifying a golf instructor. Here are some options:For course operators, yardage books are an opportunity to generate revenue both with ad placements and sales of the yardage book itself in the pro shop. Just make sure any advertisements placed in the book don’t overwhelm or distract from the important content. The yardages also play a key role on the tee box as well on par 4s and 5s. Having notes of where certain fairways begin or end of where hazards come into play can and will be helpful! Know your distance left into each green! See our recomendations on GPS Watches and Rangefinders below! Don’t miss out on this great technology! 2nd Item: Club Selections Creating a yardage book that is easy to understand and appealing to the eye is not a simple design task; there are many design principles at play.
