About this deal

Because the 80mm is fairly large and heavy, it best suits high-end models like the X-T2, X-Pro2 and X-H1. The 90mm is somewhat smaller and lighter, so you have a bit more flexibility in terms of the cameras you can comfortably use it on. And when it comes to macro photography, a lot of the enjoyment is in the chase. I found myself crouched down in a local park scurrying from bush to bush as the bees made the most of the morning sun and the blossoms on hand. There are no color fringes as shot Fujifilm's cameras, which by default correct for any that may be there. If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 3" (7.5cm) wide on your phone, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 11 × 16" (0.9 × 1.3 feet or 25 × 40 cm). If you do not know that one of the reasons for putting OIS in a macro is to make hand holding feasible when a tripod is not you are perhaps not very knowledgeable about the flexibility of modern macros with OIS/IS/VR, especially with a crop sensor body with more depth of field for any given magnification than 24x36.

Voigtlander 35/2 Apo Ultron in XF mount. New last year. but I've never seen a test report or review. The pronounced clunk of the lens when it’s tilted might send alarm bells ringing the moment it’s taken out of the box. However, this is quite common with image-stabilised lenses. Switching the camera on engages magnets in the lens and the above-mentioned clunk soon disappears. We can see that there are fairly significant amounts of both distortion (pincushion style) and vignette. The heavier distortion is somewhat of a surprise on a macro lens, as they tend to be well corrected. I used a -8 to correct the pincushion distortion. The vignette was also surprisingly heavy, requiring me to max out the sliders (+100 and midpoint to zero) to give a fully corrected result. As noted, the correction profile takes care of things in the real world, but that level of correction will have somewhat of an impact on corner performance particularly at higher ISO values where noise is more obvious.

However, macro photography is a niche field and not many people decide to fully explore it. It is a specialized area of photography that involves a lot of experimentation and patience, and it also requires a good environment. Despite the X-mount being around since 2011, there are only three Fujifilm macro lenses available as of writing this article. This includes the brand new Fujifilm XF 30mm f/2.8 R LM W Macro which was just released in January 2023. However, the lens didn’t quite scratch the itch of the hardcore macro nerds out there as it was only a 1:2 macro lens – not the much desired 1:1 that most other brands had available.

Quote:As regards the macro capability, it is of course so much more and can cover all the other short telephoto applications. The Fujifilm XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro is the latest weatherproof XF lens to be released, featuring a dust-proof and waterproof structure with weather resistant sealing applied via 11 special seals on the lens barrel, making it a perfect partner for the weatherproof X-T2 camera. Disclaimer. The lens I used for testing was an early prototype lens, and image quality might not be final, but unless Fujifilm has a contract with the image-quality-gods there isn’t really any more magic that can be sprinkled onto the lens. So IQ is probably final. At their fastest apertures – f/2 on the 90mm and f/2.8 on the 80mm – the 80mm is much more capable of rendering fine details, which could only be expected from a macro lens. Sharpness from the 90mm is still very acceptable though, especially if we take into account the one-stop difference in aperture.

No, the bokeh of the XF80mm is not as well controlled as on the XF90mm in the corners. You will have some cat eye / swirly effects wide open, but the bokeh is much smoother with the XF80mm than with the 90mm. X-T2 – XF80mm f/2.8

Quote: As regards the OIS, I'm not sure that this is very useful at macro distances anyway. I would be putting the camera firmly on a tripod,To ensure the lens renders circular bokeh at wide apertures, Fujifilm has designed it with nine aperture blades and a rounded diaphragm opening. Full disclosure: Fujifilm USA loaned me the XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR lens, with no expectations of producing a review or opportunity to review this content before publication. Physical Characteristics

At 1:1 focus (which the specification implies the lens does) at f8, presuming the lens does not change angle of view, depth of field is unlikely to be more than about 1mm in front of and 1mm behind the focus point.. The lens is made up of 16 elements in 12 groups, including one aspherical lens, one Super extra-low dispersion (ED) lens and three additional ED lenses. The purpose of Fujifilm’s ED lenses is to reduce chromatic aberrations, while delivering clear colour reproduction, impressive sharpness and high contrast. I tested this lens handheld in the field as well as on a tripod in my home-studio and the results were incredible. Fujifilm MCEX-11 (11mm) and Fujifilm MCEX-16 (16mm), the two and only references of the brand, sure values. You can buy them alone or together directly, I really don’t think this is an extreme perspective. I don’t of course have to buy lenses such as these, but if manufacturers can get away with charging huge mark-ups, the trend for future releases is fairly bleak.o Touch AF to change the focus area and refocusing according to subject movement functions in video recording This new compact and lightweight macro lens is weather-sealed and has a minimum focusing distance of only 10cm/3.94in. Here is the Fujifilm Macro Lens Comparison Table of XF30mm Vs. XF60mm Vs. XF80mm. It was not until late 2017 that Fuji finally met the demands of the macro-cohort and released the much anticipated XF 80mm f/2.8 Macro.
