About this deal

Both flavours of Guardians get better stats, but have high minimum squad counts at 10 and aren’t cheap. Finally, sigh, the Swooping Hawks and Warp Spiders. Both saw above average increases and I don’t really see a core rules change that’s going to help them out significantly – the Swooping Hawks had some niche play now and again, and may very well have a role with the GT mission set yet, but I’m dubious. As for the Warp Spiders…. they’re a far cry from the day I made a poor Tyranid player rage quit as they jumped out of LoS everytime he targeted them with his Flying Hive Tyrants all those years ago. I think you can safely pass here, and hope they get cool new models to match some cool new rules later in 9th. Heavy Support Trying to build lists with this book is a vastly more hostile experience than anything else recently, and as Boon mentioned the key culprit is the move of Dire Avengers from Troops to Elites, leaving the latter slot vastly overstuffed and the former pretty mediocre. The Asuryani end up as a faction where building a Battalion either forces you to take stuff you don’t really want, or massively commit to spending on Troops, eating badly into the rest of your army. The fact that everything else is pretty expensive too only compounds this, and when you finish your lists you definitely feel like you’ve been a bit short changed. That impression obviously is being skewed by the fact that the metagame is currently being dominated by two factions that get more stuff in their armies than they really should, but even compared to the factions a step down from them like Drukhari and Orks you really don’t have much breathing room. On occasion a powerful Seer will receive a portent of some calamitous event, and be able to steer the Craftworld Aeldari away from disaster and doom. With so few Aeldari remaining, the Seers attempt to preserve every Aeldari life possible. All of these except Stand Firm help the unit they go on get a lot done in the turn you decide to commit with them, which is crucial for getting the payoff you need from your Aspects, while Stand Firm just adds a lot of utility at a low price, so why not.

Rules for constructing an Asuryani army, including one that draws on the strengths of the Ynnari (which we’ll look at later today). Surprise Assault for Warp Spiders gives them an extra shot per gun the turn they come in from deep strike, which helps maximise the chance of them landing the kind of blow their hefty price tag demands. The rest of this section is fine, but not spectacular. Foot Autarchs have some cool builds, but aren’t any cheaper than bike ones if you take a mobility option, meaning Sunstorm probably leaves them in the dust. They also have the bizarre issue, as in Eldritch Omens, where the Autarch that’s on the cover of the codex isn’t a legal build. Yriel and Illic both still do some OK things, but Yriel is a foot Autarch with no mobility tools, and Illic is too highly priced to be a draw. Finally, if you just want the cheapest relevant HQ possible in some sort of skew build (or are going hard on Wraiths), Spiritseers exist. When you are satisfied with the results rolled, those remaining dice become your Fate dice for the battle. These results cannot be changed or re-rolled further, unless a rule specifically states otherwise. Keep your Fate dice to one side – this is your Fate dice pool. What that adds up to is that if you decide you want your Warlord in a Harlequins Patrol, doing so is surprisingly plausible – you lose the ability to buy additional Craftworld Relics, and access to Craftworld-specific relics, but not much else – and this is something you may well want to do, as we’ll look at in the final article today. This is a collection of 3rd party sculptors and designers for our space elves. If you know more let us know. Disclaimer: i haven't bought from any of these so I can't attest for their quality.

If that type of roll involves one D6 (e.g. a hit roll), do not roll a dice; that roll is treated as an unmodified roll of 6. Bursting forth from the Webway, the forces of the Asuryani have finally arrived in 9th edition proper – and they’ve brought friends. The brand new Aeldari codex covers not only the Craftworld Eldar, but also the cryptic Harlequins and grim Ynnari, making it one of the largest and deepest codexes we’ve seen this edition. These threads are not to discuss proposed changes to units or long complaints about poor behaviour. I would like to keep them constructive and focus on making the best use of the units as they stand. Inevitably, in a codex as large as ours, there is going to be some overlapping of battlefield roles. For this reason, I will allow comparisons against other units that fill similar roles provided the posts remain primarily focused on the unit under discussion. Eldritch Storm - Even with their extensive planning and understanding of destiny, there are times when a Farseer must unleash the raw potential of the Warp against their foes. On such occasions, the Farseer may truly exhibit his species' psychic potential as these exhibitions of raw energy can yield tremendous destructive force.During their gradual process of transmutation, a Farseer takes root amongst the trees of the biodome and eventually turns entirely into a humanoid form composed of crystal. In this state, their spirit is freed into the structure of the craftworld itself where it is preserved forever within the psycho-conductive Wraithbone Infinity Circuit. Like a lot of units in the new edition, Farseers do a much better job of fitting with their fluff- no longer are they suicidal summon-bots or bottom-tier spellcasters, but rather a powerful and flexible addition to the HQ slot in an army. If you want a unit that is extremely flexible, able to change the way they affect the army game-by-game, but without spending too many points or sacrificing too much else, the Farseer is a top-notch choice. Two Eldar-specific points here. YNNARI is now essentially a selection, and indeed all the Named Characters from the Reborn have the Asuryani keyword, so your starting point for a list with them is as a special flavour of Craftworlds (though there’s some depths we’ll look at in their article).
