Alan Grant( w), Eric Bradbury, Geoff Senior( a)."The Dying Doomlord" Eagle(15 December 1984 to 23 February 1985). IPC Magazines.

AC: That’s amazing. Was it touched up paint-wise after you bought it or was it as-is? Does it still exist? Added spells from level 1-87, don't have the time to upload pictures yet, but feel free to add some if you feel like it! Phalanxii 00:58, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Julian: The boards for the planets, you mean? Not specifically, they were just big sheets of mounting board that were pliable enough to get a nicer bend on them. I usually wedged the board between two buffers to force the bend. Julian: It disappoints me that you do not have it. It cannot be helped – happens all the time, I guess. It would only have gone to the council tip; probably buried in landfill right now. Barrie Tomlinson: When we decided to do photo stories, two of us went into London’s West End, visiting theatrical suppliers and at one place we found the Doomlord mask. The rest, as they say, is history!

Julian’s models, as seen in “Dan Dare” in Eagle in 1983, inserted into a strip drawn by Ian Kennedy Today, Julian runs the long-established visual effects company Take 27 Ltd,, who produce space/astronomical art, science imagery in general, and archaeological reconstruction. A respected VFX artist and illustrator, his career began with building miniatures, photographing them, printing and cutting elements, and comping by photo-montage, adding airbrushed detail to the final piece. Much of his work was also space art, and diagrammatic illustration, for astronomy books. Energy harness has been improved, now it gives the same amount of SE whether your opponent is at 20% or 100% on your duel list. Also, on world 3, if the SE you would get with EH is more than the normal maximum, you will get the EH SE. Julian: Well, I am impressed, reading the about thinking and effort you put into it. It certainly has that look about it!It’s perfect nerd excitement that 43-year-old me got to ask questions of the editor 10-year-old me wanted to know about Eagle’s Doomlord. As it happens, Eagle was my first paid gig. Doomlord is a British comic character, appearing in strips published by IPC Magazines. The character featured in British comic stories published in the weekly anthology Eagle from 27 March 1982 to 14 October 1989. The strip was initially a photo comic written by Alan Grant and John Wagner as Eagle experimented with the format. While "Doomlord" was popular with the readership, the photo stories had a more mixed reception, and from 24 September 1983 "Doomlord" turned into a conventional picture strip, with art from Eric Bradbury, and would run until October 1989. The story began with a Doomlord - a powerful alien - judging the human race's right to exist. Over the course of the strip three different Doomlords - Zyn, Vek, and Enok - would act as protagonist. We added the option to the hunt window that you can answer quiz questions in advance, when not hunting. Harvey attempted to stop Doomlord, but was unable to convince anyone else of the alien's existence. Doomlord also seemed invulnerable; however, this did not extend to his human form and Harvey took advantage to shoot him - only for Doomlord to pass his life force to another person, and then grow inside and take over as if he had absorbed them. Doomlord manipulated Harvey into a trap, and explained his "dread mission" as a "Servant of Nox" – he was to be judge, jury, and executioner on humanity's right to exist, using the identities of members of society's elite as stepping stones to gather evidence. If Doomlord judged humanity as unfit or to pose a potential risk to the interstellar community, he would destroy it – the billions of deaths being inconsequential, as "The fate of the individual is unimportant when the survival of the species is at stake." Doomlord delivered a sentence of death upon humanity. He hypnotised Harvey to accompany him to a germ warfare establishment, to watch helplessly as Doomlord constructed a virus to kill humans worldwide. However, Harvey managed to overcome his hypnotism through strength of will, and stabbed Doomlord. The alien infected Harvey with his life-force but the reporter sacrificed himself by releasing the virus within the sealed laboratory. Harvey's last act was to inform the dead Doomlord that humanity had the right to decide its own fate. [9] Thanks to another Eagle fan, Peter Adamson, we were reminded that one of the spaceships that featured in the strips was the work of artist Julian Baum, who also created model shots for a “Dan Dare” story in 1983. There’s an extensive feature and interview with him in the 1985 Eagle Annual, including some rather nice colour shots of his models. The Doomlord ship is amongst them. Alan Grant( w), Alberto Giolitti( a)."Doomlord - The Deathlords" Eagle(24 September 1983 to 3 March 1984). IPC Magazines. This is gold. Also the Doomlord mask was absolutely bowel-loosening and still gives me the heebie-jeebies. It was that he looked like he was smiling when killing people. Who made the mask?

There is no reward for clans, only for individuals. In each category the top 3 gets a medal of glory, which increases SE received for hunts. If you win in several categories, you will still get only 1 medal. Julian: The sail was plastikard. A translucent material might have been better, with much more detail, but there was not the time. Generally I had one week maximum to do each issue.

Judge Dredd and Doomlord co-creator John Wagner distinctly remembers going to the West End with Eagle editor David Hunt to buy the mask, but his recollection is not entirely in conflict with the memories of designer Sue Moore, who remembers buying it from a shop near Seven Dials on behalf of the publisher.
