I have been on the monitor but with the time I get tired and think that it is better to alternate between a board with real figures and the monitor. All this is housed in a lightweight design that you can take with you. Maybe you want to play on veranda and take in the sun. According to DGT the full set weighs including cables about 10 pounds. for me that is not heavy. Also it comes with a carrying bag holding everything. So that is for me no reason not to get a DGT board. Centaur is not compatible to connect to your computer or online chess portals. That is not necessary at all, use the Centaur to play, to learn, to train, to analyze and to improve your skill level. Above all, use it to have fun!

Non of my entry level to mid-range level computers have auto resign or offer draw feature - not even my most feature rich unit, the Saitek Talking Chess Academy.

No individual piece recognition, so setting up a custom game position via the menu/GUI is very tedious. I think you need to determine what your goals are. Are you interested in playing OTB (over the board) chess once this COVID19 is over? Two adaptive difficulties: friendly and challenging, at which I win 99% and <50% respectively. The battery took a LONG time to charge. About 5 hours but I was playing a lot while it was charging which I’m sure affected the time to full. Now that it has been fully charged I have played about 4 games and see no real drain on the battery. With the E-Ink display I am hoping it will last a long time.Today’s chess machines have come a long way from electronic chess of old. They have strong but variable strength and are useful in personal game improvement. There’s no such thing as chess computers that are too strong for any player. The software for any machine has settings from ‘novice’ to ‘expert’ so that the computer chess game is enjoyable and meaningful to any player. Centaur knows 3 fold repetition and fifty move rule but it does not offer a drawer outside of those rules. It does not offer to resign either. I have also just bought the DGT Centaur. I have a collection of chess computers ranging in age and strength - nearly all attained via charity shops. No advanced chess computer knowledge is required. Just use the Centaur to play, learn, train, analyze and improve your skill level. I see no way to export the PGN of the game. I have been writing down my moves for later analysis but being able to export would have been nice.
