About this deal

Feline idiopathic cystitis in cats (FIC) is inflammation of the bladder with an unknown medical cause Anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAids) – used in the short-term to help reduce pain and settle bladder inflammation*. Cats’ kidneys can begin to fail as they age and unfortunately, with chronic kidney disease, there is no cure. However, an early diagnosis and careful management can help to improve the quality and length of your cat’s life. Cats with chronic kidney disease tend to be older than those with FLUTD. Clinical signs include: It is important to encourage cats to drink plenty of water and keep well hydrated. Keep food and water bowls separate. Place water bowls in multiple places around the house; avoid putting them near litter trays or in busy areas that your cat might not want to visit. 4. Height The causes of cystitis or FLUTD can be quite wide-ranging, but a dry diet can have an effect in making your cat’s urine more alkali. There can also be no underlying cause to cat cystitis. From International Cat Care:

Encourage frequent urination. Litter trays should be easily accessible. Provide at least one extra litter tray per cat. Place trays in different locations around the house. Try using different types of litter to see which one your cat prefers. Cats with outdoor access may also need an indoor litter tray in the house, even though they might have always urinated outside. Top 10 tips to help your cat with urinary tract issues or kidney disease 1. Specialist veterinary diet FIC is more common in younger felines and episodes tend to reduce with age. FIC is different from a bladder infection, bladder stones or more serious urinary tract conditions, but can often present the same symptoms. What causes feline idiopathic cystitis in cats? Try to reduce your cat’s stress levels. You know your cat best and what might cause them to be worried but there are a number of general things that you can do to help. Hiding places can make cats feel safer. For example, boxes or covered space in each room. Pheromone therapies, such as a Feliway or Zenifel diffuser, release odourless calming pheromones, which help cats to feel reassured. Unfortunately, feline pheromones do not have a positive effect for all cats but are very safe to use and definitely worth trialling. i'll finally get to my question which is, does anyone have any experience of this, it's not classed as a medication but as a supplement, i asked if i could gradually wean him off of it and they didn't know, the vet said she hadn't used it herself and to ask the nurse who dispensed it, the nurse said to ask the vet...has anyone used this been able to wean their cat off, i really don't want Finn taking anything he doesn't need and he's only 2 years old, to take them for the rest of his life seems a very long time...i know i can read up online but i'd rather take advice from someone whos used it and knows exactly it works.Give them enough ‘resources’ – cats don’t like sharing and need their own things to feel happy and calm. Make sure they have enough: Now contains Quercetin and L-Theanine which is known for its calming properties and helps reduce stress behaviour in cats. Since putting our cat on a course of Cystaid Plus for Cats, we’ve not yet had to return to the vets and our cat is happy and healthy. He wolfs down his food even with the powder mixed in and he’s not had any problems going to the toilet. Winter adjustments –the change in weather can be stressful for cats because they won’t want to go outside as much. You’ll just need to clean their litter a bit more regularly and spend a little more time playing with them to keep them happy.

Urinary specific supplements may help some cats. A 6-8 week trial will be sufficient time to see if they make a positive impact. They can be sprinkled onto food. Examples include: Cystophan, Cystaid Plus, VetPro Healthy Urinary Tract Function, Nutracys+ or Cystease. One capsule in the morning and one in the evening was recommended for the first month, after which we dropped the dosage down to one capsule per day. Wrapping up our Cystaid Plus For Cats reviewPrescription food – if your cat has regular flare-ups of FIC symptoms, your vet might recommend a special diet designed to protect their bladder.
