Safe for Kids: All Safari Ltd. dinosaur toys are made from non-toxic and BPA-free materials, ensuring they're safe for children aged 3 and up. Scientists don’t really know what the claws were used for. One idea is that the front claws may have been used to grab onto trees while the animal was rearing up on its hind legs. However, because the specimen in the American Museum of Natural History was titled Brontosaurus, this was the name that came into common usage. Books, films and TV programmes all referred to the dinosaur with its original, incorrect, name. Our understanding of dinosaur behaviour is mostly speculation. Don’t forget, all we have to go on are the fossilised remains of species that lived hundreds of millions of years ago!

Apatosaurus means ‘deceptive lizard’, but this wasn’t due to the Apatosaurus / Brontosaurus debate: it was because some of its bones resembled those of a mosasaur. The company who produce several lines of dinosaur figures including the Carnegie Collection and the Wild Safari Line Apatosaurus was a sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic Period (about 152 million years ago) in what is now western North America. It was a large animal, being at least 70 feet in length, ad weighted about 20 tons, but some old adults were probably a lot bigger. Thankfully, this Apatosaurus toy is small enough to fit in your home!

Beautifully Finished and Durable? This figure is beautifully finished and the extreme attention to detail is universally recognized. This figure is made of a very high quality plastic, its measures approximately 13.4 inches length; Suitable for ages: 3 plus Years. Use by children under 8 should be supervised by adult.

This Apatosaurus is probably one of the worst sculpts of a seen-on-screen-species thus far. Its absolutely as bad as the laughable Spinosaurus and I will bet my money made by the same artist. Giant of the Jurassic: The Safari Ltd. Apatosaurus toy brings to life one of the largest terrestrial animals to have ever existed, measuring at least 70 feet in length and weighing about 20 tons. Apatosaurus was a huge sauropod dinosaur that lived in the Late Jurassic period. It was a plant-eater, and a member of the Diplodocidae family. You can find out more about Sauropods, and how they are related to other types of dinosaur, here: Dinosaur Facts

Apatosaurus lived in the Late Jurassic Epoch of the Jurassic Period, about 150 million years ago. It shared this time period with other well-known dinosaurs such as the Stegosaurus. Flying reptiles called Pterosaurs would have filled the skies. What we know of dinosaur behaviour is based on the positioning of fossil remains, other clues drawn from injuries, etc. to the specimens, and by comparisons with similar, extant (living) species. Like cows today, Apatosaurus would likely have used microbes in the gut to aid digestion. This would have resulted in the production of methane, a greenhouse gas, just like commercial cattle do in the modern world. First appearing in the Late Triassic Epoch, sauropods were widespread by the late Jurassic Epcoh (150 million years ago). However, by the late Cretaceous, most of these large dinosaurs had disappeared and had been replaced by other species.

There’s nothing to complain about with the legs, although they appear a bit too large, but the feet are one of the toys most offensive features. They’re enormous and disproportionate, reminiscent of the old Carnegie and Playskool sauropod toys. They also have an incorrect number of digits, meaning that Mattel is applying more work than is necessary on some of these toys. The forelimbs all have five distinct and clawed digits. Apatosaurus should only have one visible digit apparent on the forelimbs, with the rest encased in a fleshy mitt. Only three clawed digits should be apparent on the hindlimbs.Confused about the dinosaur timescale? You can find out more about the Jurassic Period (and all the other periods) here: Dinosaur Periods Authentic design. The more than 32-inch long figure is ready to dominate the spotlight with accurate and detailed design, textures and deco.

For much of the time Apatosaurus may have had to keep its head in line with its body to allow its heart to supply its brain with blood. They could have been even bigger: some estimates suggest Apatosaurus could have weighed around 73 metric tonnes (80 short tons / 160,000 lb)! Apatosaurus Physical Description Apatosaurus was one of the biggest land animals ever to walk the earth. PVC Safe Material ?This plastic solid model is made of non-toxic and durable rubber material; ASTM/EN71/CPSIA/CE approved.,Highly realistic, this incredibly lifelike Dino is perfect to mix and match with other dinosaurs. Scientists have estimated that Apatosaurus had a lifespan of over 100 years. When Did Apatosaurus Live?
