About this deal

While less-bright HDR movies and SDR content don't show off the A95L's advantages quite as strongly, it's still a cut above its rivals with everything we watch during testing, particularly in terms of colour vibrancy and accuracy. With the OLED807, though, the innate attraction of OLED technology is taken up a gear by its shift to new so-called EX OLED panels. By switching to deuterium in the EX panels’ organic light-emitting diodes, OLED display manufacturer LG Display claims to achieve 30 per cent more brightness than is possible with conventional OLED displays. Or around 10 per cent more brightness than was possible with the so-called Evo panels introduced in 2021. It's effectively the same as you get on the best Samsung TVs and best LG TVs, and you'll get no complaints about that from me. This kind of option is exactly what Philips needs to finally break into our list of the best gaming TVs. Memory size (Flash): 16 G, the actual available disc space may differ (dependant on e.g. (pre-)installed apps, installed operating system, etc.)

While the OLED807’s pictures are better out of the box than those of its predecessor, we still strongly recommend that you delve into its extensive array of picture tweaks to get the very best out of it. Turning off all noise reduction is recommended for native 4K content, for instance, and is usually a good idea with decent-quality HD sources too. The sharpness isn’t messed up by camera pans or fast moving objects, either, thanks to Philips’ excellent motion compensation processing. The ‘Standard’ setting for this that’s the default for some picture presets is too aggressive, creating too much soap opera effect (excessive fluidity) and too many unwanted side effects. Its Pure Cinema and Movie settings, though, both offer excellent options for taking the edge off hardware judder without the image starting to look unnatural or uncinematic. There’s certainly nothing else out there that looks like it. From its super-sleek metallic sculpting to its immersion-boosting Ambilight system, it looks far more expensive than it actually is. The Philips OLED807 has a similar minimalist design to most of the other OLED TVs on the market, with an ultra-thin metal bezel and a panel that’s millimetres deep at the top, before widening out further down where the electronics, speakers and connections are housed. Since this is a Philips TV, this deeper rear section also includes LEDs for the Ambilight system – more on that later.Smart features, finally, are provided by Android TV. It seems a little strange Philips hasn’t yet migrated to Google TV given the latter’s enhanced appearance and slightly more friendly interface, but to be fair the brand does appear to have mastered Android TV now, delivering one of the most stable and speedy implementations of it that we’ve seen. The Philips OLED807 is a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) HDR smart TV that uses a 120Hz OLED panel with the latest AI-enhanced P5 perfect picture processing engine, the brand’s proprietary four-sided Ambilight rear-mounted LEDs, and support for Dolby Atmos object-based audio. Highlights include the amazing picture quality that’s full of contrast and natural colours, plus the best gaming feature set you’ll find on any 77-inch TV, regardless of price. It's also worth noting that all of the firm's 2022 Ambilight TVs continue to offer the full range of HDR formats, so that's Dolby Vision, HLG, HDR10 and HDR10+ (including HDR10+ Adaptive). New for 2022 is the addition of IMAX Enhanced support. Improved Ambilight Value for money: LG slightly increased its prices this year and, given the marginal upgrades for the C3, that seemed like a bad deal next to the C2. The C3 has been heavily discounted, though, and is now exceptional value for what is really a very premium TV.

Connection to a soundbar, additional rear speakers or a subwoofer is both incredibly simple and wireless while a new update for 2022 gives the option for the OLED807 to be used as the dedicated centre-channel in a multi-speaker AV system. The set’s mid-range is wide and dynamic enough to deliver even dense action scenes with authority and conviction, easily avoiding the thin, hemmed in feel you get with big movie moments on so many TVs. The power and dynamic range that delivers this impressive mid-range performance also contributes to excellent detailing; a nicely projected sound stage that seems to exist well beyond the edges of the screen; and convincing, clear vocals. Some renaming of the available modes has also taken place for 2022: ISF Day and ISF Night are now Expert 1 and Expert 2 which means that, including Calman, there are three modes for professional calibration of up to three different input sources. Furthermore, Standard has been rebranded as Eco, and Vivid Mode is now called Crystal Clear. Smart duties are handled by the latest Android 11 TV OS with both Google Assistant built-in – via push to talk on the remote – and Works with Alexa compatibility. Philips OLED807 features New 6th P5 Gen AI picture processing suite to guarantee superb picture quality. The new chip boasts the company's most advanced Ambient Intelligence – tech that monitors the ambient light level within the room and continually adjusts brightness, gamma and colour in real time to ensure that all content looks its best at all times. The 6th Gen P5 AI also allows users to toggle between Eye Care, Dark Detail Optimization or Colour Temperature Optimization modes. The company's 2022 OLED TVs also get a new version of AI Auto Film Mode, which provides seven smart picture modes including Filmmaker Mode. There's Dolby Atmos decoding built-in, and HDMI eARC support for connecting to one of the best soundbars.

However, please note that the 48-inch OLED807 won't be able to match the same highs as this, because the panel can't get as bright at this size (it's the same for all 48-inch OLEDs) – this brightness applies to the 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch models.Philips has returned to the top of the TV manufacturer tree in style within the UK with improving products and features every year. With the OLED+937 the company has reached a point where the picture and sound performance offer something for everyone with the quality to match or even better the competition. There's a huge amount to consider when choosing a new OLED TV, but the biggest things are the money and space that you have available. Philips’ long-running association with extreme sharpness and detailing is preserved by the OLED807, as it produces an emphatically 4K experience despite its relatively small screen size by today’s 4K TV standards. Especially since you can leave Philips’ Ultra Resolution feature on these days without it causing the sort of grittiness and harshness it did in years gone by. It'll be available in 48-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch sizes, though you should note that the 48-inch set won't include the brighter OLED EX panel – at the moment, LG Display (the sole maker of all OLED panels) doesn't make the next-gen screens in that size.

The 8007 is Philips' entry-level Ambilight TV for 2022. It offers a 4K 60Hz LED panel, Pixel Precise Ultra HD processing and three-sided Ambilight. The LG OLED77C2 is the best 77-inch TV we've tested, offering the same natural picture quality and next-gen gaming-ready feature set as its 65-inch sibling. Having once viewed external arbiters of picture quality with suspicion, Philips now seems prepared to embrace as many third-party interests as it can. So as well as the officially approved Dolby Vision and HDR10+ codec support already mentioned, the OLED807 carries the UHD Alliance’s accuracy-focused Filmmaker Mode, as well as an IMAX Enhanced mode. You need to manually choose one of the recommended motion processing options - or turn it off entirely - unless you’re using the Filmmaker Mode (which turns motion processing off by default), and unfortunately we’d also suggest you turn off the new Ambient AI features, as while these work okay in a bright room, they tend to make the picture too dark if you’re watching the TV in a dark room. Details are still thin on the ground, but we look forward to testing the system later in the year. Any improvement on this already-excellent feature is surely welcome. Android TV 11 and DTS Play-Fi
