About this deal

I chose the Plasma Edge II because it reminded me of the old buggies, I don't like the cab forward designs of today. A mate had a Kyosho Outrage BITD which was essentially the plastic version of the Ultima and looks similar to Plasma Edge II. Another mate has just bought the Dual Ridge because he thinks it looks like the Kyosho Salute from BITD which his brother raced The plastic drive components are admittedly a bit underwhelming, but the well-braced main driveshaft is an improvement over the DF01's coathanger or the DF02's floppy spaghetti. (That is not to say I wouldn't fit an alloy hop-up if I was to build myself one though.) When jumping and one of the front wheels lands first it will noticeably pull from that wheel making it very easy to control. So this isn’t a proper build thread, more a ‘build notes’, with some pics of the car and some interesting mods along the way. I won’t go through all the build steps. However the Eagle front one way was the first thing to go on the hopped up version, or more correctly the bevel gear which stripped teeth (using a 15T brushed motor). Note that this was the bevel gear supplied with the Eagle one way, not the kit-supplied bevel gear.

In terms of steering, with a bit of toe-out the Quakewave loved to drift around corners with minimal power whereas the 4WD of the Neo Scorcher continues to pull the front through the corners, and will only step the rear out under hard power / very loose surfaces. Length: 380mm, Width: 250mm, Height: 145mm ●Wheelbase: 266mm ●Tread: 217mm (Front), 208mm (Rear) ●Bathtub-type Frame ●Shaft-Driven 4WD ●Front/Rear 4-Bevel Resin Differentials ●3-Piece Steering Tie-Rod ●4-Wheel Double Wishbone Suspension ●Tire Width/Diameter: 32/82mm (Front), 41/82mm (Rear) ●Front/Rear CVA Oil Dampers ●Gear Ratio = 10.71:1 (using kit-included pinion gear) ●Type 540 Motor ●Electronic Speed Controller included. At present I’m fiddling around with oil weights, pre-load clips and springs but any advice in this area would be appreciated. The TT-02B is based on the TT-02 entry level multi-purpose platform designed to be easy to assemble for first time R/C kit builders. The keen of mind amongst you will instantly spot that the steering link needs to be detached at one end to be able to fit the shell! The height, size and position of the steering aperture was calculated and measured over and over again to ensure clearance of the steering arm across the whole steering range and suspension travel. At this point I should note (given it’s the subject of much discussion) that although I hear the gears skip frequently, I have not noticed any wear on the ‘plastic’ gears – Either the outer or internal diff gears. I know a lot of people were worried they would given they are plastic not metal. I’m pretty sure you could get metal ones from one of the DF or DT models although they are getting harder to find as they get older. HPI Firebolt 15 turn brushed motor – Pretty cheap, seemed like a good step up from the Torque / Sport tuned Tamiya motors which I think are somewhere between 23 & 27 turns

I would recommend this car, then, for anybody either looking to start into the hobby or anyone who just wants a reliable basher to drive around. Me, I am quietly envious of my cousin and his new Neo Scorcher... My idea here is to make the front end as smooth and refined as possible, so it handles well up front, but then with a lively rear end that likes to break away. I am putting together a Neo Scorcher TT-02B and I know there are several threads dedicated to the build so I hope its not bad form to create another. If this needs to be merged to another just let me know. It just seems like a lot of people are inquiring about buggys and the TT02B is always recommended. I am putting one together with as many Tamiya hop-ups as possible. There are a couple of non-Tamiya parts as the previous threads have pointed out some flaws in the usually remarkable Tamiya Parts. I opted for the Eagle Racing Universal shafts and a YR Motor mount that has not arrived yet. The Eagle uni's are known to stay together better when the buggy is overpowered and the YR Motor mount allows for some ridiculous gear combos, of course, coupled with the TT02 high speed spur gear bushing. It's looking like it going to be a fun build.

FUEL & PLUGS

I love taking an entry level model and hopping it up – Yes it’s a waste of money (I should just pay more initially and get a better model), but I love tinkering with it and getting the best performance out of it. That for me is half the fun! Four different gear ratios can be applied with the use of three separately-sold types of pinion gears, Hi all, so am posting here with my ‘experiment’, a road going TT02B, modded to be a low ride height asphalt race car.

Hopefully this will help other n00b’s out there as I’m very happy with the Neo Scorcher so far as an entry level basher buggy. With the Neo Scorcher (actually, most buggies) I always like to push the car down to the floor and admire the dropped, low ride height, stance. (It’s a wonder I don’t have an on-road car as of yet. But in my typical fashion my first road car would have to be a modified off road car, I can’t just go out and buy one... who does that??) All up though the buggies have been put through a lot, both by me and the kids, and have stood up fairly well. The main problems I’ve had have been with the upgraded pieces so I have no problem in recommending the Neo Scorcher as a great basher car. Front and rear gearboxes include 4-bevel differentials for smooth operation, and are sealed to ensure that dust can't get inside. So here is a few shots of the first test fitting of the body. I had some particular modifications or ‘amendments’ that I had to figure out ahead of time, to ensure clearance and coverage were retained, and to maintain a ‘formula’ racing appearance. And also the Eagle alloy steering system with bearings. From my experience with TT-01’s this radically improves the steering.
