There is a nice balance and variety of abilities within these four factions, again bringing plenty of variety to gameplay as well as surprises for opponents that you just would not be expecting. AEG’s ability to keep creating new surprises never ceases to astound me. Final Thoughts My personal favourite is Aladdin. The genie is a tyrant in this game and the unique approach with wishes was very cleverly pulled together. But I am so excited to try more combos with this excellent new addition to the range. Final Thoughts The points are awarded based on the amount of health of the creature each player has at a base. Although all creatures on a base count towards the health total for defeating it, in a four player game, if you are the player with the least health of creatures at the base you receive no points. But if you focus too much on one base your opponents may score easy, uncontested points. The artwork is always great but I love what they have done here for Cease and Desist. It’s not the films or TV shows but AEG have very much captured the essence of each, particularly the Alien Guru within the Astroknights, who’s that guy? Final Thoughts

Then you have to combine and shuffle two factions together making for a unique combination to take on your opponents’ unique combination with each faction bringing a certain style of play. Disney is no exception here with unique attributes coming forward once again. Will theEach combination plays very differently than the others. With eight different factions in the standard box there is a lot of opportunity for different combinations and gameplay styles in the base box. During the game, base cards — each with their own difficulties and abilities — are at stake. By playing cards from your hand, you try to have the most powerful set of minions on a base when the base is broken. When this happens, the three most powerful players on that base score points. When a player has 15 or more points at the end of a turn, they win. If two or more players have more than 15 VP, the one with the most points wins. I’m certainly glad all my favourite board games do not pull stunts like this and create anniversary as my bank balance would take a battering. AEG have truly delivered on this expansion set and it is a wonderful celebration of everything to do with this long-standing game series. If you love Smash Up like me you will want a copy of this.

Some people I know have criticised the game in general. They see with every new set or expansion coming out being that little bit stronger than before and that makes the original content almost uncompetitive. They feel the base game was perfect and it should have been left there. From my experience that is just not the case. I see two factions being shuffled together and where a player may not succeed is the random chance element (of shuffled cards) not coming in out in the most successful way for the side. Isn’t it the random element of games we love that makes for that variation and replayability in a game? I know it is the reason I cannot stand chess as there is no random chance. For me, I simply get some other factions out to mix up, go again and see what happens because it is truly exciting to see how they blend and perform in a unique way every time. I love how the game plays and completely disagree with those critics. It’s Disney I love that after 10 years of content creation they have created a new game to which all previous content can be used. A couple of the rules on cards do not work but the creators have taken steps to deal with that and now I have two gaming rule mechanisms for Smash Up which is truly wonderful.As you have realised, this is a very simple game You just learnt it in three short paragraphs. But the fun comes from the combo effects that you can create with the cards. And as you can mix up the eight different groups of cards however you like, the combo opportunities are very high. Find the perfect sets to smash up is a large part of the fun. Of course, mixing with other cards from other Smash Up games increase this even further. Vikings - The Vikings pillage and steal from their victims, including other players. The focus on making the most out of other people’s minions and actions, because clearly they aren’t using them well enough. In Smash Up all these terminologies are very important as they define when an ability can be triggered. Read carefully! 😉
