About this deal

Dubbels and Quadrupels tend to use caramelised malts and have a rich, fruity flavour. They tend to be lightly hopped, allowing the malt to shine through. However, Tripel ales tend to be made with paler malts and more robustly hopped for a fruity yet pleasantly bitter beer with a bold flavour – try this if you’re a fan of an American Pale ale or IPA. In the 18th century there was a very well-known brewer in the Dendermonde area; his name was Pauwel Kwak. He brewed his own beer, which was dark and heavy. He also has had a coaching inn on the road between Mechelen and Gent, where the mail coaches used to stop for a break. That’s when Pauwel, whose inn, the De Hoorn, was located in a strategic area between Mechelen and Gent, came up with the idea of designing a glass -the koetsiersglas – that could be fitted in the carriage’s structure.
