Roddam’s 1975 Inside Story about Michael ‘Mini’ Cooper is a powerful exploration of self-destructive behaviour made all the more compelling due to its engaging young subject. On a technical level, Louis enjoyed the long takes and composition of the shots, which lend an intimate feel to the story, and which were typical of the less hurried style of the time. Franc Roddam has kept in touch with Mini, and made follow-up documentaries about his struggles as an adult. This resonated with Louis as a filmmaker who wonders what becomes of the subjects of his films, and how much of a real-life friendship can result from an onscreen relationship. is reviewed between 08.30 to 16.30 Monday to Friday. There was a certain dishonesty about the film too – not in the making of it and not just me playing to the gallery. The authorities were too. We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:Minitells the tragedy of a remarkable youngster whose capabilities and flaws were inappropriately accommodated for. A precocious personality of this sort had the potential to develop into a formidable, monstrous criminal or a promising, ingenious citizen, depending on how he was nurtured. I really never have seen or heard of a case quite like this andthe exceptional execution of the documentary produces an incredibly thought-provoking and compelling 45-minute watch.

Apparently, director Franc Roddam made follow-up documentaries about Mini’s struggles as an adult. Despite being unable to find these clips online as of yet, Michael Cooper’s book Mini and Mepromises to offer further insight into his life for those interested. The assessment centre was keen for the film to be made and recommended Mini. “They said there’s one guy you’ll really love – he’s articulate, he’s interesting, he’s dangerous. If you’re preparing your all about me lesson plan for your classroom or homeschool, then this printable is just for you. he says. “But also I’d been let out of the cage. Having the camera pointing at me and being told ‘be yourself’ – what an invitation for somebody who’d never been allowed to be himself. I took it gladly.” Adapting to working in the retail trade, after the closure of the Competitions Department, Dudley maintains he was always in the right place at the right time, with one notable exception when he spent the night in jail. MGs, The Mini, and Me is an amusing tale of one man’s journey from apprentice to management."Around the time I began writing it, it felt right. I felt ready. I worked for a long time on the book, but never felt it was a job and, it’s a bizarre thing to say given the nature of the material, it was a labour of love.” The exceptional execution of the documentary produces an incredibly thought-provoking and compelling 45-minute watch. He was told by people at the centre that Roddam wanted to make a documentary about him but that was not strictly true. As the director recalls, he wanted to make a film about an assessment centre and opted for Aycliffe because it was in the North- East where he grew up. Mini was critical of his parents’ belief in God, arguing: “you can’t believe in anybody if you haven’t seen them”. He was so strong in his beliefs and morals, that he burned the school church in reaction to receiving what he deemed the unfair punishment of a beating from the headmistress for refusing to say prayers. He was aware that being so principled was getting him into trouble, but he preferred to be punished for upholding his principles and doing what he wanted than to be told by others what he could and could not do. He appreciated the notion of punishment for discipline and education but deemed his father excessively violent for repeatedly punching him in the ribs.

Dudley Pike grew up with MGs: he, his father and two brothers all worked in the MG factory. This is the story of Dudley’s forty-five years in the motor industry, from his apprenticeship at the MG works at Abingdon, progressing to the preparation of rally cars, moving on to the retail trade, and finally returning to the manufacturers. Dudley enjoyed his life in the industry, and here he shares some of his experiences during his apprenticeship and within the Competitions Department of BMC/BL, giving the reader inside experience of what it was like preparing the cars for a very successful rally team. All the apprentices dreamt of ending up in the Competitions Department where they would prepare rally cars for BMC and later, British Leyland: the Mini Cooper S, the Austin Healey 3000 and the MGB. Pike spent six months here. He helped Brian Moylan, the longest serving mechanic at the factory to build a car for the Monte Carlo Rally. It was one of the Minis that was going to be used as a recce (a car used for practice) for The Tulip Rally. The car completed the recce without incident. He’s clear this book is the final chapter on his past life.It should come as no surprise that, as with most deviant individuals, beneath the tip of the iceberg lies a problematic childhood and family setting. With this in mind, during the course of this 45-minute mini-documentary, psychiatrists and social workers probe the charming yet unruly child to establish how best to handle this perturbing case of juvenile delinquency. All upcoming public events are going ahead as planned and you can find more information on our events blog MINI thinks that brightness and his reasoning worked against him in some ways. “I do think the authorities showed a certain amount of resentment towards me after the film was made. When this book was completed I thought it was brilliant for Mini because he became the intelligent person he was when he was ten. That gap had been closed. Look at this book and he’s the intelligent boy we saw at ten. This all about me book is definitely kid-approved! One of my boys just kept on working on his booklet, even though I told him he didn’t have to finish it all in one sitting. But he just couldn’t stop!
