About this deal

Speaking of algorhythms, I was almost expecting a recommendation for "Wait For It" by Zapata on my paperwhite at the end, this story is truly reminiscent of it, but nope. sits and stares at the part of his body you just touched, no matter how casually you did it, like what trying to ingrain it into his memory.

It was even more surreal when Jamie brought his book out, and he and I read on the couch while Garrett stretched out on the floor, eyes closed and hands behind his head, listening. The entire story is told from Madison’s POV (except for a surprise chapter from Garrett’s pov at the end of the book that answers a burning question many of us likely had while reading the story). I loved this approach, and that coupled with the slow burn, really gave me Mariana Zapata vibes, even though it’s a lot shorter than her tomes tend to be. Happily ever after didn’t always mean pregnancy and a diamond ring. Sometimes it also meant only working forty hours a week and discovering who I was as an adult and as a woman. Who I was as Madison, outside of who I was as a mother and a friend. I didn't enjoy this book mainly because I hated both main characters and I didn't like the romance at all. The only good part of the book was her best friend and son, and that's it.

What I hated... The love interest, Maddison it's a woman that has had two men in her life when we meet her: the first one got her pregnant and ran away, the second one was abusive. Ummm... this is actually complicated for me to rate, because I loved it and hated it at the same time. Careful,” I said, my voice muffled by the cushion smashed against my face. “You’re objectifying him.”

He kept looking at her and no saying shit, I think the author wanted to imply that he had an intense look, I just felt creeped out. Also, her boss is a complete creep and is always harassing her and getting in on her personal space. Then she did the same thing to Garrett (her neighbor and love interest) and thought it was completely fine (he might have been okay with it, but they barely knew each other and she shouldn't have done that). By that, I mean that she got into his personal space trying to... seduce him? Embarrass him? I honestly don't know. Not in his dark hair, not in his physique, and definitely not in the dimples she’s only seen a hint of. She’s 100 percent, absolutely, not interested.Madison and Garret are new next-door neighbours in a duplex, and I loved how the beginning of the book there’s a graphic of what their two mirror-image apartments look like. He was many things. A barkeep, a friend, an artist, a lover. But one thing he was not, was monogamous. something tells me an independent woman like you wouldn't appreciate being treated as though you were breakable." Alone with a baby and desperate for the love she hadn’t found, she turned to a man who sealed his claim of devotion with a diamond ring. I had more reasons, but I forgot. He is a no no, so when they went to have sex, I couldn't go there, it made me cringe and even though I applaud Maddison for doing what is right for her (she still got the job even though he didn't want her to), and no paying attention to him. I still think she deserved better. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️❤️
