Thundercloud: It feels like you can’t re-roll a re-roll should just be a blanket rule, because there’ll be other edge cases like this come up and this way people know not to try it. Familiarise yourself with how they work, maximise how many you generate by including the Pronatus and carefully selecting your equipment, and have your key combos ready. Novitiates don’t just have Acts of Faith, they get some pretty good ploys as well. Acts of Faith mean that you won’t be spending your CPs on rerolls, and this gives you more CPs to spend on ploys that tend to do from decent to excellent. Strategic PloysLets one friendly operative close to each objective marker on the battlefield a free Shoot action and (not “or”, it seems) a free Fight action. Tactical Ploys Glorious Martyrdom

Allows the operative in question to perform any Act of Faith for free. This still falls under the restrictions for Acts of Faith, but you can basically look at this as 1-3 free Faith Points. This can be especially useful on the Condemnor or Penitent when you REALLY need a critical hit. C The Dialogus is another Novitiate operative that’s fairly weak in combat, but has some interesting Unique Actions: Stirring Rhetoric gives a nearby friendly operative a +1 to its Action Point Limit, which is simple but useful. Auto-Broadcaster places a token on the battlefield, and when an enemy operative gets close to this token, it gets a -1 to its Ballistic Skill (and then the token is removed). The Sister Superior wears full Adepta Sororitas power armour and can wield a boltgun – the only member of the squad to have that honour. She has a range of wargear available to her (and, as you’ll see from her sprue, some fantastic hats), while her Lead by Example special rule lets her activate another Novitiate if she does something cool, like incapacitate an enemy.

Phobos Strike Team

Do you dream of dousing your enemies in righteous flames? Are you a die-hard convert to the Emperor? Is your armor made of faith? Then the Novitiates Kill Team may be the choice for you. Blinding Aura– For two faith points when an enemy model shoots, select a friendly model more that two inches from them. That operative is treated as being in cover. This is good for trying to save the bacon of a model in the open.

The kill team medic, this model comes with an autopistol and surgical saw. The surgical saw is four dice, 4+, 2/3, Lethal 5+, so it’s not a terrible close combat weapon. This operative has the Mantra of Restoration ability, which once per turn lets you stand up an operative within ■ with one wound if it would otherwise be incapacitated. Both models lose an APL for the turn. They can also heal friendly operatives for 2D3 wounds with their Chirurgeon’s Tools, but a model that was saved by Mantra of Restoration cannot be healed by Chirugeons Tools in the same turn (so just use the Blessed Rejuvenation Act of Faith instead). Pious: Each time this operative performs one or more Acts of Faith during an activation, roll one D6: on a 5+, you gain 1 Faith point.

The Novitiates version of the Dakka Boy these operatives are straightforward and deadly. Armed with the Ministorum Flamer, +1 damage on crits and Inferno 1 on top of a normal Flamer, these operatives would already be a strong choice. Their Burning Advance (1 AP) ability takes them to the next level by allowing them to perform a Dash followed by a Shoot Action. Additionally, they have a ploy that further increases their damage making them one of the deadliest operatives in the game, and a nightmare on Into the Dark maps. Novitiate Pronatus The Duellist has an autopistol and Duelling Blades. The Duelling Blades are four dice, 2+, 3/4, Lethal 5+ and have Expert Riposte, which is a melee ability that rivals Storm Shields for how good it is. Expert Riposte means if you parry using a critical hit, you still inflict the damage from a critical hit as well as parrying. Despite being only 7 wounds, these operatives can be absolutely deadly when using Acts of Faith to power out crits, making these operatives potential auto-includes. Novitiate Condemnor The Novitiates have a special system called Acts of Faith, which lets you pay Faith Points to perform 8 different Acts of Faith, which are small miraculous interventions that mostly take the form of improving a specific dice roll, healing your operatives or providing defensive bonuses. Determined: Each time this operative is activated, if it is within of the centre of an objective marker, add 1 to its APL.
