About this deal

There are of course plenty of crisps out there that are safe for Coeliacs, there isn't just Walkers crisps out there! Seabrooks is usually the brand I go for as all flavours are labelled gluten free and they are ridiculously nice! There are a few other brands such as Kettles who label all theirs with gluten free a b "My grandpa founded Golden Wonder but I never saw him eat crisps". BBC News. 21 October 2022 . Retrieved 23 December 2022.

Sainsburys is my favourite for crisps, I just have to get their own brand Bacon Rashers as they don't contain wheat. They have lots of other gluten free crisps too. At Golden Wonder our crisps are fully flavoured from the way we cook them, to our tongue tingling seasonings! Golden Wonder launched the cheese & onion crisp flavour in 1962. [11] Their first flavoured crisp, the concept was first devised by Tayto in Ireland in 1953. We only use the very finest spuds, peeled and cooked in sunflower oil until they are wonder-fully golden.Smiths, slow on the uptake but eventually sensing an emerging market, countered with salt ‘n’ vinegar, tested first by their Geordie subsidiary Tudor, and launched nationally in 1967. Though they did not know it, both companies had fired the first rounds in a battle that would become a two-decade-long flavour war. By the end of the 1960s, the crisp market had doubled. Crisp research and development Then comes the really tasty bit, we load every bag with our mouth-watering Cheese & Onion oomph, making sure each crisp has more punch per crunch!. No artificial preservatives or colours. Suitable for vegetarians. Golden Wonder. Some Burts crisps state gluten free, however this is one brand that don't mark there salt and vinegar gluten free, so one to be wary of.

It’s not clear who came up with the first flavoured crisps (ask any crisp company of sufficiently advanced years and they’ll say, ‘It was us’), but Ireland’s Tayto have a better claim than most with their early-doors cheese and onion circa 1957, with Golden Wonder following suit soon after. Founded in 1947, by the 1960s Golden Wonder was the biggest crisp brand in Britain, overtaking Smiths. [1] They were overtaken by Walkers who are the No.1 crisp brand in the UK. [1] History [ edit ]If you are a Dorito, Wotsit, Quavers or Bacon Fries fan they are all unsafe for Coeliacs however there are home brand alternatives in some supermarkets that are safe. There are no cheese curl Quaver types that are exactly the same, they all contain wheat, but there are some products with a similar texture to Quavers which could be a good alternative. I don't remember them changing either and I used to buy crisps on the way home from school from the late 70's onwards

Variety of gluten free crisps in Waitrose, be wary of the mixed potato shapes though, sour cream and chive are gluten free but the other three flavours contain wheat. Disparity between the brands is confusing shoppers and causing them to mistakenly buy the wrong flavour. News in brief | Dalgety eats Sooner". The Guardian. London, England. 8 February 1992. p.10 . After pleas from the public, Walkers even released a statement on the colour choice. And they confirmed the brand will not be changing their design any time soon.

Crisp research and development

I remember the golden wonder crisps being the 'wrong' colour... Its the first thing that came to mind when i read the OP. I was born in 1980 so not really sure how i could have such a strong memory of it if they really did change mid-eighies? Maybe im just getting old. This is getting even weirder, so Golden Wonder claim Walkers changed, but Walkers deny ever doing so........also, if it was infact the mid 80s that they changed, I would have no memory of it as I wasn't born until 86.........I remember it happening in the mid to late 90s.
