About this deal

Not usually, but it’s not unheard of, especially if the parents have feathered feet. They are adorable! Usually, a Bantam Ameraucana would be crossed with any bird with feathered legs like Silkies, Brahmas, Marans, or Cochins. Caring For Your Easter Eggers According to some sources, the Easter bunny first arrived in America in the 1700s with German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania and transported their tradition of an egg-laying hare called “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.” Their children made nests in which this creature could lay its colored eggs. Eventually, the custom spread across the United States and the fabled rabbit’s Easter morning deliveries expanded to include chocolate and other types of candy and gifts, while decorated baskets replaced nests. Additionally, children often left out carrots for the bunny in case he got hungry from all his hopping.

Some Easter Eggers have ear tufts and beards, while some don’t. Some have tails, and others don’t (Araucanas – which are blue egg layers – are rumpless, so they don’t grow tails). Really, anything goes! Easter Eggers are considered a hardy and healthy breed, tolerant of cold and hot temperatures. They can be raised free-range and are happy to forage to supplement their diet. The original Araucanas were brought to the US from Chile, South America, in the 1930s. They are rumpless birds which means they have no tail and no coccyx. Their blue colored eggs have a pigment known as enocyanin. This pigment covers the eggshells, thus giving the blue eggs their unique characteristic color. Studies show that this blue color is nothing else other than a genetic anomaly. Not an Actual Breed

Easter Eggers display different color legs. Some are characterized by dark-colored shanks while others are distinguished from the rest by their light-colored or blue legs. The only consistent physical attributes of these birds is their toes. They all have four toes. For the youngest of crafters, this Seeds Collage is a great way to use colour and shape to create patterns. It uses all-natural materials and is compostable once you have finished with your decoration. It is made by creating an egg shape on a cardboard base and gluing drying seeds, beans and pulses in funky designs. Due to the milk in the milk chocolate they are unsuitable for vegans as is. However, in the UK at least, there are now vegan creme eggs available in some health food shops and online. Vegan chocolate buttons are also available, so I believe it would be possible to make this recipe vegan.

The blue coloring is called oocyan, which comes from a liver pigment called oocyanin. These eggs are unique because the coloring not only appears on the exterior of the shell, but on the interior too. As the Easter Egger is a hybrid, there is no set standard for them. Why Do Easter Eggers Lay Blue Eggs? On the other hand, hens of this breed are very calm and friendly. Easter Egger hens rarely go broody, so you need an incubator for hatching their eggs to keep them for breeding purposes. Easter Eggers are Low-cost birdsAmeraucanas weigh a bit more and lay only blue eggs. You won’t be able to expect green or pink eggs from an Ameraucana. As far as breeding goes, Ameraucanas are a slightly rare breed, so they will fetch a heftier price if you’re interested in selling them. 2. Legbars If you don’t have a straw, you can fashion a piece of tin foil into a V shaped piercing tool. Or you can use a paring knife to cut each slit.

The legs are usually clean, and the shanks can be any color, from yellow to slate blue/green. The foot has four toes, and the footpad, like the shanks, can be any color. Both breeds produce blue eggs, and, when crossed with other breeds, can lay a wide variety of colored eggs. Because of this, the Easter Eggers are not a standard breed and are not recognized by any poultry association. So, they do not have any standard appearance, which can be easily explained. In addition to laying fun and colorful eggs, Easter Eggers has excellent production. One hen can produce about 250 eggs per year. That’s about five colorful eggs per week! Hens may slow down with laying in the winter due to shortened daylight hours, but they can still produce several eggs during the winter. 4. Egg Color Easter Eggers do not require much above a standard laying feed and supplemental calcium. Provide calcium such as oyster shells in a separate dish where hens can eat some as they need it. 2. Housing and Fencing

The lifespan of the Easter Eggers is around 7-8 years. However, the parent breed, i.e., Araucanas, may live 1-2 years more. You can find more Easter Egg Craft ideas at the Twinkl Crafts Egg Craft Hub. What Other Easter Egg Craft Activities Can I Try? DISASTER! Extremely cute, but almost impossible to execute. When the top third of the egg is cut off, variable amount of white/yellow is included, depending on the position of the yolk within the egg (which can not be seen well from the outside of the egg.) If you cut off too much yolk, (more than half), then you have no place to put the filling. If you cut off too little yolk, (less than half of the yolk), then the opening over the yolk is too small for scooping out the yolk. Attempting to do so causes the white to split, rendering it useless for filling and/or display. Out of 2 dozen eggs, I got only ONE that looked good, and another TWO that were awful and pitiful but still kind of cute. The rest we just had to dump in a bowl and eat more as a salad than as devilled eggs. Perhaps this would be easier if the eggs were boiled in a fixed, upright position and all of them had either pointy ends up or pointy ends down. I’m not sure which position would be better so you could slice the yolks about halfway through every time. REALLY CUTE idea, but it didn’t work for me. At 70, I am a very experienced cook, and excellent with crafts. Once you’ve cut the tops off the eggs, scoop out the yolks and add them to a bowl. Some of the yolk might be contained in both the top and bottom. I prefer to do this part manually in a bowl, but you can mix up the filling in a food processor or with a hand mixer, if you wish.
