Charlie as a character was so ... bland. Mel and I were trying our hardest to get our three combined brain cells to work to come up with 5 things about Charlotte and that’s what we have: 1. she looks like some emo anime girl 2. her sister Leah rescued her from a burning house 3. uhm... uhm... uhm.. she is a voyeur???
Kellan watched me in amusement, producing another muffin from his bag. He threw it at me like I was a feral animal he needed to feed through bars. I also can't stand how a book that relies so much on the cahracters' internal battle against grief and guilt and self-loathing doesn't eventually end with one or both of them going to therapy. Take the notorious ob-gyn scene: Charlotte embarrassed herself quite like no one else, but behind Tate's 'professional' (my ass), cold and indifferent façade you could clearly see that the guy's self-control was hanging by a thread.
I was ready for a sliver of true sadness to enter my body only to be exorcised by a piece of juicy sandwich a few mins later ( there's not much of emotional trauma that a sandwich can't take care of). one of the greatest scenes is when charlotte, a virgin, decides to allow Tate to perform an exam on her because naturally, he’s an OB-GYN Everyone spoke of the book Kellan wrote as the next literary masterpiece. A future classic to be examined in classrooms and referenced for decades to come.
Imagine my surprise when what I actually felt when Kellan finally jumped off that roof was a cold, cold fury.

Also if you think this is an ordinary romance of boy meets girl and they lived happily ever after you couldn't be more wrong. It seemed so easy. I could instruct my limbs to move, my eyes to blink. I could even hold my breath. i knew myself well enough to know i didn’t survive books. they tore me to shreds. i’d never met an inanimate object as talented at breaking hearts as a book.” I like how the grief was handled in this book on Tate’s side. There was so much regret and self hate that I rlly felt bad for him. So many miscommunication and missed opportunities between these brothers. Tate only wanted the best for Kellan and protect him from his dad, but showed it in the worse way and their relationship is the true tragedy of Darling Venom.
Does not help matters that Tate didn't hold a candle on Kellan (in my humble opinion). Something about him being a Gyno eeked me out, maybe it was that forsaken scene I mentioned earlier which is now the main reason for my chronic hair loss.Everything about the act and the havoc it wreaked on people around him screamed unnecessary cruelty to me. Since I have no intention of writing a novel on this novel, I am not about to start arguing with my imaginary (for now) opponents who would want to fight my stance and defend Kellan's case by saying that he prolonged his existence only for the sake of Charlotte's safety. If she really had suicidal tendencies, his death could have easily damaged her beyond repair, considering the way he'd been feeding her with hope for a few years. However, I expected the romance to match the mood, and that's where my expectations were met with disappointment, which is why I ended up not loving this as much as I thought I would at first.
Darling Venomis a story of best friends’ older brother. Of enemies to lovers. To slow burn loves. All and all, it’s a story of family, addiction, redemption, forgiveness, grief and strength. Tissues should be very close when reading this book. The story starts when Charlie (Charlotte) is a teenager and one night she meets Kellan on the roof of their school. Under any other circumstances, they two would not have spoken to each other, but that night they did. And they make a promise. Both of them hold on to that promise for three year, and in the fourth year, Kellan breaks it. Now alone, Charlie is left to deal with the consequences and wonder what happened. One day she meets Kellan’s older brother, Tate, and she begins to find some truths. to those who are having suicidal thoughts or know/suspect someone they know of having them, please know that there is always someone out there ready to help you he really thought he did something there, ending his life on Charlotte's (h) birthday? Not a long time after she had breached their pact by trying to save him, no more no less?? When they were on bad terms with each other??her suicidal thoughts whilst dark made sense and were so damn relatable i couldn't help but love this girl.
