About this deal

My daughter demonstrating the stability of the Soto Amicus with a 1.9 L pot, which is a pretty good sized pot for such a little stove– but it's really not a problem with the Amicus. What's an upright canister stove? Please see my recent blog post: What is a Remote Canister Stove?which describes the two major types of canister gas stoves (upright and remote) and lists the advantages and disadvantages of each. It's worth knowing the difference. Not everyone needs the tiniest stoveon the market. Especially if you camp year-round, you’ll want to choose a four-season stove, or one better rated for cold performance.

As mentioned above, mine has been in some salty conditions and shows no signs whatsoever of any rust or corrosion. Whatever it is made from, I’ve been extremely happy with its construction and it looks like it belongs with some of my higher-priced gear. Does the BRS-3000T have an igniter? The Reactor is available with pots of three different capacities: 1 litre, 1.7 litre and 2.5 litre. We've been testing the smallest size, which seems the most versatile for solo or two-person use. However although the pot does hold 1L, its max safe limit in use is marked on the pot as only 0.5 litres, which does seem a bit misleading (you need the extra height to accommodate the violent boiling!). Integrated System: State-of-the-art stove and high-efficiency cookware are combined into a compact, self-contained and easy-to-use system In addition, isobutane canisters are more efficient than Esbit and alcohol, and they’re very easy to find in outdoor stores and online. At first glance, we had concerns about the scalloped, curvy pot stand lips (which are designed to be compatible with BioLite’s pot and grill cookware). But upon testing, we had no issues balancing off-brand pots as well, even a small 1L pot.

The BRS-3000T does not have a pressure regulator. In case you’re unfamiliar with what a pressure regulator does, it keeps the flame consistent despite the pressure in the canister. Stoves that don’t have regulators need to be constantly monitored and adjusted to keep the cook flame consistent. Yes, you have great flame control with the BRS-3000T, and you can adjust the flame very low for simmering foods. However, as mentioned above, the BRS-3000T does not have a pressure regulator which can make keeping a low flame consistent a bit of a challenge. Especially if the canister is low on fuel.

Note that the Stealth ignition is optional. A version of the Soto Amicus is available without the ignition. This same logic applies to frying pans and you may be able to get by with a pan slightly larger than the 5 3/4 inch TOAKS frying pan mentioned above, but don’t push this too much. The Windmaster outperforms other stoves in windy conditions because the recessed burner has a lip around it, and there’s very little open space between the burner head and the pot. This means there’s not a lot of room for wind to interfere with your flame, and the result is a faster and more efficient boil in unideal conditions.

Not all stoves are created equal, and nowhere is this more evident than in the frigid temps of winter camping conditions. If you camp in the warmer monthsonly, this isn’t a concern. Stoves like the JetBoil Flash offer solid wind and weather resistance for cold winter camping; (photo/Mary Murphy)Simply put, this stove is the best due to its combination of light weight, consistent performance, boil time, and price. We do not claim to be scientists, though we have tried to make our tests as objective, controlled, and repeatable as possible. We did our testing in a garage at 5000 feet (about 1524 meters), where the boiling point of water is 202.97° F (about 94.98° C). We tested the time it took for one liter of water to make a 1.7-quart kettle whistle with each of the small canister and liquid gas stoves. For the stoves with integrated pots, we tested how long it took for them to reach a rolling boil. With each test, we began with a full 4-ounce fuel canister and weighed it for the wind test. Then after the wind test, we weighed the canister and tested for boiling without wind. All of the fuel bottles were full, and the canisters used were identical.
