About this deal

The PDF version of Toby's blueprints incorrectly labelled him as "Toby the Big Express Engine". [1] This was intended for Gordon's blueprints. In addition, he is also the first character that was first made in Large Scale, unlike the other characters who were all first made in HO scale and then made again into large scale. The coaches in the Thomas' Christmas Delivery and Thomas' Christmas Special sets are Emily's coaches repainted.

Trying to judge accuracy isn't helped by variations in the books and between the early model-based TV series and later CGI version. Even his body colour varies – Bachmann has matched the photograph in my 1970 edition of Thomas the Tank Engine, though it's too light for the early TV shows and some later books, but correct for the CGI versions. IIRC, Thomas may have changed as a result of the repair of his front frame damage. I think this may have left the frames straight, as opposed to curved.Donald and Douglas share the same facial expression moulding, but with differently painted eyebrows. The HO scale oil, cream and raspberry syrup tankers and the mail coach were all initially released as they appeared in the model series but were reissued with their CGI series insignia in 2011.

The roofs are attached and have plastic frames and rectangles attached underneath them to resemble windows, unlike the large scale models that have unattached roofs. Emily's coaches and the Christmas coaches have similar features. This is due to his model being a repaint of Bachmann’s existing American 4-4-0 tooling. As a result of this, the model is inaccurate in a few places. The Bachmann Thomas Range locos have great running qualities (far better than the Hornby Thomas stuff) but are based on the TV models rather than on the books or the prototypes Rev. Awdry had in mind (and modelled). It's a pet project both to have a piece of nostalgia that I myself created as well as a challenge to build my modeling skillset; nothing more, nothing less than a simple pet project. There are two versions of the 6-ton wagon; one with white lettering and the other with a more cream tint. The white lettering wagons have an unglossed chassis on the bottom and would have the "K101019".

Personally, I'm not so keen on the TV models, having grown up with the earlier books, but I do know what you mean, having tried (successfully, I hope) to capture the character of the Harry Potter Knight Bus. At least, with that one, I think I did a better job than the commercial model from Corgi. S.C. Ruffey's HO model's frames are grey instead of rusty orange. This was corrected on his large scale, and N scale models. Thomas and Percy's HO models were recycled as different models with the same moulds in the Bachmann Junior range. Thomas' model was repainted into engines such as 2005, Billy and Stuart. Percy's model was repainted into GWR locomotives and Greg. Interestingly, they were given front couplings. I have seen 1915 as Thomas's building date so with heavy general overhauls at 10 year or less intervals there can have been little original left by the 1950s when Rev Awdrey wrote about him. I suspect he was mistaken for an E2 because of his extended tanks and stylish drooping front frames, but clearly he was a much smaller engine. The cab steps are mounted on the valences instead of under the footplate. Strangely, his prototype model did not have this problem.Thomas the Tank Engine was first born thanks to post-war austerity. When his young son, Christopher, asked for a model of Gordon from his bedtime stories, the Rev. Awdry found himself without sufficient material, so built a blue tank engine instead. The youngster then demanded stories for this new locomotive – the rest is history. In close-up shots, the large scale Thomas is used (albeit with the face altered to resemble the HO one for consistency). The narrow gauge van's roofs were most likely originally painted grey but were later changed to white as evidenced by the fact that the underside of the roofs is painted grey and visibly painted white on top afterwards. This change is also likely since the roofs are slightly darker than the Peco models' roofs as a result of being repainted. If your desire is a fidelity-driven model of Thomas, some proper research will help you. Despite some humorous (sometimes sarcastic) comments, the great majority of contributors on here are a friendly bunch, and if they know where you want to go, they will point you in the right direction. There is a multitude of armchair driven experts with the knowledge you seek. The human figures were originally marketed as HO scale but have been relabelled large scale since the introduction of said range due to being too large.
