About this deal

A: Iron contamination can come from all sorts of places, but most often it is from vehicle braking. The brake dust that gathers around regular brake discs on your wheels is iron contamination. It is generated when the metal parts of your brakes are worn away during use. Trains that have stop at a train station will generate tremendous volumes of iron contamination, so if you park near a railway station regularly you will almost certainly have fallout on your car. Airports also generate fallout for the same reasons too, as well as industrial processes such as foundries, factories and iron works. It really does leave the wheels looking like new, and you don’t need to apply a lot of it either. It should be noted though that the wheels need to be cool to the touch to use this, otherwise it can leave stain marks on the alloys. Wash your car as normal (use a car shampoo and not washing-up liquid, it can damage the paint). Make sure your bodywork is still damp before beginning to clay bar it. Meguiar’s are keen to point out that this is more like a spray on, rinse off product and you don’t need to get the brushes out, but I would say you’re going to go through more of the product that way. For those that want a one size fits all product, Autoglym Magma is a great way to decontaminate the paintwork as well as the wheels. When I’m using Magma as a wheel cleaner, I like to use this in tandem with a car shampoo such as UHD Shampoo. The reason for this is that Magma isn’t a foaming cleaner the way that Custom Wheel Cleaner is. By using Magma with UHD Shampoo, it allows you to get a great, deep clean.

A: To give you a choice! Both ways of removing fallout are effective, but some users want to see what is happening on the vehicle, and the visual indicator of colour change lets them see where the contamination is and can see it being removed. Most people opt for the colour changing products as they are more fun to watch! We were sent a 500ml bottle of Magma by Autoglym to put to the test. We have used it as part of the decontamination process on two vehicles both on bodywork and wheels and observed the effectiveness of contaminant removal and place for the product.A: Not a great deal. The name and bottle size are the most obvious factors, although there is a subtle difference in the formulations, but not enough to make a great deal of difference to the performance. Magma was formulated with the needs and desires of the home user in mind, Liquid Clay was formulated for professional users. Both are excellent at removing iron, are pH neutral and both use Colour change Technology, turning red during use.

Not the most economical fallout remover. We used the entire 500ml bottle to cover two average sized vehicles bodywork and wheels. Not the cheapest to use. When talking about the usage of any iron fallout product, one thing I feel is really important is to mention how it smells. For those that have used iron fallout removers before, they’ll know exactly what I mean. By and large, these chemicals do have a strong, horrible smell to them. Whatever Autoglym has done with Magma has meant that the smell is unique, but by no means horrible and unpleasant to work with. Value for Money
