About this deal

Mr Devlin believes the installation of such boxes by broadband companies, should have to go through the planning process. The big problem with these is that from the surface they all look pretty generic and that’s because they have to conform to certain standards. On top of that some networks have changed hands so many times over the years, or share their infrastructure, that identifying who manages what from the central label can easily turn into an exercise in frustration. Virgin Media is completely unique in the technology it will be bringing into your home, and thus the requirements of the installation of your services are equally unique. Sky needs to bolt a satellite dish onto your home, while most broadband providers are able to use the phone line coming into you home to get you online. Virgin Media has its own, unique cable network which uses a hybrid copper/fibre-optic coaxial cabling system – the same one that used to deliver cable TV in them olden days.

NOTE: There is also a smaller VMSD0 distribution cabinet for handling up to 16 homes but we don’t have any pictures of it, only diagrams. I’m confident I can undertake the work myself as i’ve done a few phone extensions and rewired coax connections but wanted peoples thoughts first? Unlike previous set-top boxes from Virgin, the TV 360 only needs a Virgin Media broadband connection either wired or over wifi. Previous boxes relied on the same coaxial cable that delivers your broadband being routed to wherever you have your TV, which could cause some installation headaches. The fact you now only need wifi makes installation of the TV 360 much, much easier.BT (pre-Openreach) also had a number of now significantly older looking street cabinets, although you’re unlikely to see too many of these around today as most of them have long since been replaced or re-shelled with one of the more modern units above. Sadly we don’t have any good royalty free pictures of the smaller single door cabinet on the right.

Hoping someone can help me with a pre-installation question. 😁 I tried Virgin Customer Services with this but they werent able to answer. A smaller cabinet for FTTC hybrid fibre broadband services, which can handle between 96 and up to 128 ports. Obviously you’re more likely to see these around smaller communities or areas of low demand.which will give you a general idea of VM fixtures and fittings. Keep in mind though, for new builds, most of this will all be built into walls when the new building is constructed. Virgin Media delivers the fastest broadband available and one of the best subscription TV solutions. Which is great when everything is working as it should be. But when something goes wrong it's more than a niggle, it's a problem needing a solution. Chambers and manholes come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes. As such the easiest solution is for us to try and list some of the common markings and associate them to primary networks (we probably won’t get all of them due to the complex history of different networks and ownerships). There are a number of different issues that can crop up in relation to your Virgin Media bill. Here are the main ones to look out for. Generally this – also called a junction box – is the point where the copper or fibre optic cable comes up from the ground (assuming an underground duct deployment) and enters through the side of your property. The older boxy looking junction box is for copper lines.

Book the right slot: It may seem obvious, but you'll have to be at home when the engineer arrives to set you up. Having apoken to a fair few Virgin Media technicians in our time, we can tell you you would be amazed how many people either forget or simply book a time that was never convenient in the first place We need to know where the cabinet is; providing a street name and post code is great, pointing out any landmarks or junctions nearby will help us ensure we're reporting the correct cabinet)The situation with Virgin Media routers is rather tumultuous at the time of writing. Existing customers will have a mixture of the older Hub 3 and the newer Hub 4, depending on how long they've been a customer, and which broadband speed they receive. But it's even more mystifying than that, because Virgin Media is currently rolling out its latest Hub 5 router to those subscribing to its top speeds, but getting one may also depend on where you live, since the Hub 5 requires your local Virgin Media network to be upgraded to supply it. Confused?
